“The AI generated music-video ‘Hype for Nothing’ employs the machine gaze to envision speculative fabulations from a dystopic near future where we witness the consequences of surveillance capitalism and data extractivism.
Today’s misconceptions surrounding the AI, and its tendency to become even more of a black box as it advances, consequently leads to an animist, almost magic-like, perception towards the algorithm. Technocrats in power at tech monopolies build their narrative around technology in a way that gives responsibility and agency to it, whereas the ethical responsibility relies on the ones that are developing, monitoring, using, and taking advantage of these tools. Therefore, it is misguided to fear the machine based on the dystopian dispositions it has been displaying, while the focus on the people behind those technologies, taking decisions that introduce biases and lead their direction, is lacking”.

“When I first heard the song, I immediately saw a storm come to mind. After learning that the message of the album had themes of struggle and the cruelty of reality vs expectations, the idea came pretty clear of a cliff being impossible to climb. Day to day can often feel like a never ending journey that you spend so much time climbing, only to have more unexpected external conflicts weigh you down. I think it’s pretty universal that when we finally get to the top, after persevering and even from the motivation of loved ones, the result can still be as devastating as the struggle”.
