CLAUSTROFOBIA one of the most respected independent forces in Brazilian metal, is among the acts confirmed for Bangers Open Air 2027, marking the band’s highly anticipated return to the Brazilian stage after seven years.

With more than three decades of history, seven studio albums, an appearance at Rock in Rio 2019, and an international career forged on the road, CLAUSTROFOBIA will bring to the festival all the experience and intensity built throughout its years of activity in Brazil, Europe, and the United States.

Founded in 1994 by brothers Marcus and Caio D’Angelo, CLAUSTROFOBIA has always made independence, live power, and a distinct identity its defining traits. Blending the explosive force of thrash metal, death metal, and hardcore, the band has built a career around albums such as Claustrofobia (2000), Thrasher (2002), Fulminant (2005), I See Red (2009), Peste (2011), Download Hatred (2016), and Unleeched (2022). Hundreds of shows and tours helped the band establish itself in Brazil’s underground scene before expanding into the international metal circuit.

One of the defining chapters in that journey came in 2019, when Claustrofobia took the stage at Rock in Rio and, around the same time, was selected to open Slayer’s final São Paulo show following a fan-driven campaign.

In January 2020, the band played its final Brazilian shows before shifting its focus to the United States. Based in Las Vegas, CLAUSTROFOBIA entered a new chapter, expanding its presence across the North American metal circuit through tours, releases, and performances alongside major names from the scene.

That international momentum grew even stronger with the release of Unleeched, the band’s seventh studio album. Recorded in the United States, the record features a guest appearance by Marc Rizzo, formerly of Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy – Listen to ‘Unleeched’ HERE!

In the years that followed, Claustrofobia stepped up its touring schedule, hitting the road with Exciter, Exmortus, Generation Kill, Hatriot, and Crypta. In 2024, the band reached another major milestone by joining the North American leg of Sepultura’s farewell tour alongside Obituary and Agnostic Front.

In 2027, CLAUSTROFOBIA will finally reconnect with its Brazilian audience. With a new lineup, an established international career, and work underway on its highly anticipated eighth studio album, the band returns home for Bangers Open Air 2027—a performance set to bring together its past, present, and future in one crushing display of weight, intensity, and attitude.

Claustrofobia returns after the acclaimed album Unleeched, released by the American label M-Theory Audio and available in Brazil through Wikimetal Music. The record was featured by major outlets such as Metal Injection, Decibel Magazine, Roadie Crew, and more.

Now, the Brazilian band is promoting the single “AQUI NÃO” featuring João Gordo from Ratos de Porão. Released this Wednesday, the 14th, the track arrives alongside a music video created by Cyber Dog with the aid of Artificial Intelligence — marking the first time Claustrofobia has explored this technology — blended with footage of the band’s traditional performance.

About the single, Marcus D’Angelo says:

“‘AQUI NÃO’  is a 100% Brazilian Thrash–Core–Death crossover, with an acidic lyric that resonates across different layers, but that essentially makes it clear we will never be contaminated by human traps, amplified by the virtual world and dominant in today’s landscape, especially in Brazil”

He continues: The track reaffirms that we do not give up our principles, even at a time when everyone seems forced to surrender or adapt to some convenient rule. And nothing could be more fitting than calling on João Gordo, the absolute master of Brazilian crossover, to vociferate this resistance with us, spreading discomfort exactly to those who deserve to feel it.”

João Gordo, singer and front-man of Ratos de Porão, adds:

“Man, it’s an honor for me to take part in a Claustrofobia track. I’ve already appeared on songs by almost all the big metal bands in Brazil — Sepultura, Krisiun, Nervosa — and I always said, ‘damn, man, only Claustrofobia was missing.’ When I heard the song, I thought it was killer. Claustrofobia is one of the bastions of angry metal in Brazil. It’s really angry. I’ve seen their show from the side of the stage and was blown away by the fury, the hatred, and the fire in the eyes of those two brothers, man. Taking part in this song was a pleasure. It’s a conscious song, with good lyrics, you know? And in Portuguese too, which I value a lot, especially being sung here in our country. That’s it. There’s not much else to say. It’s badass.”

On their latest album, Unleeched, the band revisits its trademark aggressive sound while expanding its sonic palette across nine brand-new tracks. Produced by Adair Daufembach alongside the band, and recorded, mixed, and mastered by Daufembach in August 2020 at Northwood Sound Studio in Los Angeles, Unleeched is available on all digital platforms.

“The first step in our partnership with M-Theory Audio will be the reissue of the album ‘Unleeched,’ including two bonus tracks – ‘Riff Cult’ and ‘Força além da Força’ which is a Portuguese version of Pantera’s ‘Strength Beyond Strength,’” explains Marcus. “We composed and recorded this album during the pandemic, and all that atmosphere of uncertainty, fear and faith were crucial to finishing the work. For the first time we used clean vocals on a song, we brought Marc Rizzo [Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Ill Nino guitarist] as a guest player. This album is very brutal but there are lots of emotions on it. I consider it our most inspired album ever because the band was united and solid.

We are finishing a new video clip and we will release some studio report episodes of the recording session of this album that will show the essence of this album. We are about to start a North American tour in September/October alongside Sepultura, Obituary and Agnostic Front, and 90% of our set list will be from the album ‘Unleeched.’”

CLAUSTROFOBIA’s history dates back to Marcus founding the band 30 years ago in Brazil and releasing a couple demos in the mid-‘90s. By 2000 with his brother, Caio D’Angelo on drums, the then-quartet released a self-titled album kicking off a run of six albums over the next 16 years with S. American and European distribution and live shows with Slayer, Soulfly and Napalm Death and festival appearances at Portugal’s Barrocelas and the infamous Rock in Rio.

Relocating to Las Vegas five years ago in an attempt to break the US market, CLAUSTROFOBIA, now a trio with Rafael Yamada on bass, began playing local shows, and touring around the western US with Exciter, Lich King, Vader, Krisiun, Warbringer and Heathen, in addition to getting to Florida for 8 headlining dates plus festivals like Charged Noise Fest, Devastation in the Desert, and the Art of Music Fest. Having recently concluded a US tour opening for Exmortus, Generation Kill and Hatriot, CLAUSTROFOBIA now stand poised on one of the biggest metal tours of the fall – Sepultura’s final US run including support from such genre heavyweights as Obituary and Agnostic Front.
