THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER will be touring in support of their tenth studio album, Servitude, set for release on September 27th via Metal Blade Records.
With the tragic passing of the band’s frontman and co-founder Trevor Strnad in 2022, band co-founder Brian Eschbach, bassist Max Lavelle, drummer Alan Cassidy, and producer/guitarist Brandon Ellis were faced with a decision: Close the door on one of the most beloved death metal bands of the last twenty years, or carry on in their fallen brother’s charismatic spirit? After a period of profound grief and deep soul-searching, Eschbach moved from guitar to vocals, setting aside his lifelong identity as a live guitarist for the survival of the band. Former THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER member Ryan Knight returned to the fold to take Eschbach’s place on guitar. The new lineup made their debut in the band’s hometown of Detroit in late October 2022 for a tribute show for Strnad.
Fast forward to right about now: THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER‘s new album is the one that many would have thought impossible. Servitude marks Eschbach’s recorded debut as THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER‘s lead vocalist and lyricist-and their first with Knight on guitar since 2015’s Abysmal. The members of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER know that some will be skeptical of an album without Trevor’s inimitable presence. But many fans have already embraced the band’s decision to move forward.
“More than pressures or expectations from the fanbase, I feel their trust and support,” Ellis says. “We’ve always done what we do for them, and they’ve appreciated our consistency over the years. The global outcry following Trevor’s passing has shown us how important the band’s music has been to so many people, and how important it is that we continue in his honor. Under all that weight, I think we all knew what needed to be done.”
The guitars, bass, and vocals for Servitude were recorded at Ellis’ home studio in New Jersey. The drums were recorded by Mark Lewis in Nashville, Tennessee where the album was also mixed. Servitude was mastered by Ted Jensen.

San Diego quintet AS I LAY DYING announce “Two Decades Of Destruction” European 2022 Tour. The 29-date tour kicks off in Germany with stops in France, Sweden, and Italy before returning to Germany for the Impericon Festivals. Joining the band on the trek are DYING FETUS and EMMURE with select dates including FIT FOR A KING.
Tim Lambesis states, “I’m incredibly grateful to have a chance to go back out on tour and for the tremendous support we‘ve had on the ‘Shaped By Fire’ touring cycle so far. The band’s latest album,Shaped By Fire, was produced by AS I LAY DYING and was mixed by Joseph McQueen at Sparrow Sound in Los Angeles, CA while mastering was completed by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in Nashville, TN. The only exception was for the track “My Own Grave” which was produced by AS I LAY DYING, co-produced by Drew Fulk and mixed by Adam “Nolly” Getgood. The artwork was created by Corey Meyers.

There is nothing usual about SURVIVAL IS SUICIDE’s experimental extreme metal. Seven years after their first album, “…Just Like Spiders Eat Flies” (2011), the Catalan duo breaks the mold again thanks to their own brand of spatial and twisted death metal, a very personal 90’s like proposal which can be described as a mix of MORBID ANGEL and PESTILENCE with the avant-garde symphonic black by ARCTURUS or LIMBONIC ART. On paper it might look weird, but in the hands of Epojè (drums) and Zaratozom (bass, bass synth, voices), it all flows wonderfully thanks to progressive smashers such as ‘Beauty Of A Stoned Machine’ or ‘Complication’. If, when listening to ‘Chrysalis’, you feel like you’re immersed in Blade Runner’s cyberpunk universe, do not freak out, VANGELIS and movie soundtracks are also amongst their sources of inspiration. And all of that of course without a single guitar to be heard! After playing in the main cities of Spain, as well as participating in festivals such as the Bilbao Deathfest and the Kanya Fest, the band is ready to make the leap to Europe and beyond.
SURVIVAL IS SUICIDE’s second album “Retrovolution” (released April the 6th, 2018) gained lots of excellent reviews in Spanish and International media. Their particular brand of experimental death metal really strikes a chord with any metalhead seeking new experiences. The drummer Epojè, one of the two brothers who form this duo, avails of an impressive technique and a great reputation in his country. Being a student of his friend Pete Sandoval, of Morbid Angel and Terrorizer, is definitely one of the reasons behind his abilities at the drums.
This spring, DYING FETUS will co-headline the 2019 edition of the “Chaos and Carnage” USA tour with WHITECHAPEL. The tour begins April 18 in Sayreville, NJ and ends May 17 in Winston Salem, NC. Additional support to be provided by Revocation, Fallujah, Spite, Uncured and Buried Above Ground.
Death metal overlords DYING FETUS announce the European Annihilation Summer headlining tour. The tour begins August 2 at Wacken Open Air in Germany and ends August 25 at Death Feast in Andernach, DE. Direct support will be provided by Carnifex, Toxic Holocaust, Goatwhore and Venom Prison on select dates.
