ENSIFERUM are the offical supporter of the “Music improves brain health”-campaign. Read below:
”This is a really important topic. The brain is the most important part of our body and spreading information about brain and memory related health issues can never be a bad thing”
The campaign called ”Music Improves Brain Health” by The Alzheimer Association of Kanta-Häme (Finland) will be thrown for the 4th year in a row now during the International Brain Week (week 11). The purpose of the campaign is to reach different age groups and bring them information about how music affects brain health preventively and in an approachable manner.
The posters of the campaign are starred by Ensiferum, Petri Nygård, Steve ’n’ Seagulls and Herra Ylppö. Their interviews will be published on the Facebook page of Alzheimer Association of Kanta-Häme and on Kaaoszine during the campaign.
-“This is a really important topic. The brain is the most important part of our body and spreading information about brain and memory related health issues can never be a bad thing. When you no longer are 18, you understand a bit more about the world and life. Friends, relatives and other people you know are getting older and brain health will and already has become a very much live issue, so I got the feeling I need to be part of this campaign.” tells Sami Hinkka from Ensiferum.
This year, the campaign presents the rehabilitative effect of music in the lives of people who have already become sick with a memory disease. We will publish i.a. an interview with academic researcher Teppo Särkämö which is about music’s effect on memory disease, says Marko Mustiala, memory expert from Alzheimer Association of Kanta-Häme.
Teppo Särkämö was a member of the research group that studied music’s effect on quality of life in the early stage of dementia.
– ”There have been a few qualitative studies about live music where people have compared the effects of recorded songs and live songs and it has been noted that live music has a greater effect on emotions and state of vigor, especially if the patients can participate.” says Teppo Särkämö.
The campaign is also supported by Tuska Open Air Metal Festival, Nummirock, Qstock, Puistoblues, Satama Festival, Rockfest, John Smith Rock Festival, Tiketti, Scandic Aulanko, Poppamies, Fresno American Diner, Mad Viking Finland Bear Club and Nalleturva Oy. During the campaign week, there will be daily raffles of festival tickets and gig tickets and products gifted by our cooperation partners.
In the previous years, the campaign has been supported by i.a. Stam1na, Turmion Kätilöt, Turisas and Korpiklaani.
You can follow the campaign on the Facebook page of Alzheimer Association of Kanta-Häme. https://www.facebook.com/Kamutieto/

You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with their latest album, Two Paths, they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is simultaneously the Finnish quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. Additionally, the album literally takes the concept of Two Paths to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks “Don’t You Say” and “God Is Dead”. “Even though Ensiferum has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,” explains bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka. With Mikko P. Mustonen again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both Two Paths and its predecessor, One Man Army. “It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.”

And we are not coming alone. We will join forces with a brilliant and ass kicking bands: Septicflesh and a special guest! What a way to start a new year! This tour will leave its mark on the history of metal! So get your ticket in advance and get ready to mosh with us like there is no tomorrow. Oh! And one more thing: on this tour, we have no chance to play in every city that we would want to, so we are doing our best to return to North America for a second time in 2019.
