ENSLAVEDhave once again joined forces withNuclear Blast, to spread the music of the Norwegian avant-garde metallers all around the globe. With that, band and label renew a collaboration that has been ongoing for around ten years and two years ago produced the universally lauded albumE.
Band founding member and guitaristIvar Bjornson stated about the re-signing: “It is with great pleasure we re-sign our record deal with Nuclear Blast worldwide! We have been working together for more or less a decade, and it has been an individed positive experience. They have both the heart to grasp our musical visions, and the business-muscles to spread them out into the world. When you add personal friendships with the wonderful people in America, U.K. and Germany it is simply an ideal situation for us to be in. Onwards, forwards and in all directions!”
To mark the occasion,ENSLAVEDpresent a stunning new music video filled with atmospheric imaginery for their interpretation of‘What Else Is There’byNorwegian electropop bandRÖYSKOPP.The song is featured as a bonus track on the digital version of their latest album,E.
Acclaimed Icelandic rock band SÓLSTAFIR have announced their first-ever Australian tour, with ENSLAVED. The trek commences on August 29 in Perth, and sees the bands performing in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. A full list of confirmed tour dates can be found below.
SÓLSTAFIR are touring in support of their new album, ‘Berdreyminn’. The album, produced by Birgir Birgirsson (SIGUR RÓS, ALCEST) and Jaime Gomez-Arellano (GHOST, PARADISE LOST, ULVER), is lauded as “a compelling journey that offers ’80’s-style synths, chuggy rock riffing, Pink Floyd-y prog overtones, sweeping Fields of the Nephilim guitars, haunting orchestral arrangements and occasional metallic crunch” (Decibel Magazine) and is available across multiple formats at the Season of Mist E-Shop.
SÓLSTAFIR have released a new video for the track “Hula”. The surreal new video, filmed in the haunting Hill of Crosses of Lithuania, is streaming now at the official Season of Mist YouTube channel, here:
The video for “Hula” was recently featured on Lithuanian TV alongside an interview with front-man Aðalbjörn Tryggvason, and can be found here.

But ENSLAVED‘s journey with their new album“E” has only just begun. Since its launch in 2012, the annual Decibel Magazine Tour’s ambitious curation has unified artists from around the extreme universe who would otherwise never have the opportunity to tour North America together. The lineup for the 2018 Decibel Magazine Tour continues that proud tradition, as Norwegian progressive metal legends ENSLAVED join forces with Pacific Northwest black metal heroesWOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, Danish post-black siren MYRKUR and doomed rock ‘n’ crushers KHEMMIS (with regional openers in select markets to be announced next year).
“I have always wanted ENSLAVED to be part of the Decibel Tour concept,” says guitarist and co-founder Ivar Bjørnson. “Not only is Decibel an institution, and defender of the last line of resistance for the printed metal mag in North America (for a band started in 1991, printed magazines are no small matter), but the Decibel Tour has also become an institution and an icon for metal that we admire here on the other side of the pond. So, to be asked to headline, and to perform with these other very fine artists, is a great honor and a great pleasure. Be there or be trapezoid!”
Of 2018’s four featured acts, three have released new LPs in late 2017 to coincide with the Decibel Tour: ENSLAVED, with their fourteenth full-length album, »E«; WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, with sixth record »Thrice Woven«; and MYRKUR, with sophomore release »Mareridt«. The former have already been honored with a pair of authoritative Hall of Fame features (on 1994’s landmark Frost and 2003 groundbreaker Below the Lights). ENSLAVED, MYRKUR and KHEMMIS have each recorded and released exclusive tracks via the Decibel Flexi Series, and the 2018 headliners will return with their second flexi contribution, which will appear in the annual Decibel Tour issue of the magazine that hits stands February 2018.

In exactly one week from today, black avantgarde Norwegians ENSLAVED will finally unleash their new album “E” and prove that for a band with more than 25 years of history, they are still reinventing themselves. While the 10-minute-long opening track ‘Storm Son’ gave fans a taster of what to expect from the new album, the single ‘The River’s Mouth’ reveals a heavier and more harsh side of the 14th full-length release. Watch the official video for ‘The River’s Mouth’, which was once again created by Josh Graham (SOUNDGARDEN, NEUROSIS), here:
Songwriter and guitarist Ivar explains: “‘The River’s Mouth’ is a quite heavy track, drawing both on our rock roots and of course the foundation of everything awesome: mid-80s, mid-paced BATHORY. It also includes some odd space-rock in the choruses and the end part – finally BATHORY and HAWKWIND met. I like the energy of this song a lot – both Cato and new-kid-on-the-chopping-block Håkon is doing such a great job with the psychedelic parts, the chorus and the ending. What a drive! The end sounds like travelling at insane speed through wormholes. The theme here is your relationship with the “future”, as we describe it: The sensation of time moving along is a construction of our brains – physics claims all time to already have been “rolled out”; try wrapping our brains around that one! So the future would be, speaking in tabloid; a piece of land we just haven’t arrived at yet. But it is already here. The song is about acting in tandem with your future self which already arrived at this “future island” – do not sit and wait, make sure you lay the ground for what is to happen in the future, now!”
On October 13th, black avantgarde Norwegians ENSLAVED will unleash their 14th album “E” taking the band to fresh and more progressive shores. Today they unveil the third album trailer, in which guitarist and songwriter Ivar Bjørnson guides you through the recording studio where “E” was created, while singer and bassist Grutle Kjellson explains the band’s working relationship with co-producer Iver Sandøy. Watch the trailer here:
Grutle comments: “The whole recording process took about 3 or 4 weeks. The album is produced like usual by Iver Sandøy, Ivar and myself. The album was mixed by Jens Bogren at the Fascination Street studio in Sweden and this was the 4th time that he did the mix for us and we’re really satisfied about the result – top notch work this time too, buddy!”
Soon the band will unveil another excerpt of their upcoming album, but in case you missed the stunning music video of the 10 minute epic single ‘Storm Son’ animated by Josh Graham [SOUNDGARDEN, NEUROSIS] you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/GRlhMyXmTYQ
After two unique release shows in Norway, ENSLAVED will embark on a big headline tour through mainland Europe. Their new album “E”, out on October 13th, will see them strive for a more progressive sound, while still honouring their roots, and this obviously screams for a unique new stage set up, a special light show and other surprises that the true avant-garde Norwegians will bring to the scenes of Europe in November and December!
To stay loyal to the underground and support fresh insider tips, the members from ENSLAVED handpicked all their local opening acts. This will allow the fans to see a large variety of promising up-and-coming bands such as Germany’s finest IMPERIUM DEKADENZ, post black metallers HERETOIR, atmospheric magicians DARKHER, post-rockers LOST IN KIEV and many more.
