The video, which was directed by bassist Chris Kells, features live, pro-shot footage of THE AGONIST‘s recent Heavy MTL performance.
Premiering on GuitarWorld.com, guitarists Danny Marino and Paco Jobin of THE AGONIST take listeners through “A Necessary Evil” in the first of a three part play through video series of fan requested singles from their latest album, Eye Of Providence, on Century Media Records.
We’re stoked to have our guitar playthrough video premiered on Guitar World! We’ve been getting a lot of requests from fans for guitar playthrough videos from our new album Eye of Providence. So after listening to the fans, we picked a few songs and got our resident bassist/video director Chris Kells to shoot a couple songs. This first video is for one of my favorite songs on the album, A Necessary Evil. It has a nice blend of staccato riffing, interesting chord extensions and of course, a ripping solo by my man Paco Jobin! states Guitarist Danny Marino)”

THE AGONIST have brought us another video from their forthcoming album “Eye Of Providence” due February 23 in Europe and February 24 in North America via Century Media Records. The band has completed their third music video for the song ‘A Gentle Disease’ and you can check it out below:
Vicky Psarakis (vocals) comments: “A Gentle Disease” was one of the most interesting tracks to write and record with The Agonist. It allowed us to take the band somewhere it’s never been before and I was really happy to be a part of that. I remember hearing the music and being left with a wide spectrum of emotions. On the one hand, it’s acoustic and simple compared to other songs on the album. At the same time the chord progression is quite unpredictable, leaving you in a very unsetting mood. This song also let me to explode a more subdued jazz vocal style that I enjoy. I think the song adds to the diversity of “Eye Of Providence”. Lyrically, like the music, “A Gentle Disease” is based on contradiction. Imagine being thrown into a world where everything is turned upside down and exact opposite of what you’re used to.”
THE AGONIST are also pleased to announce they will head out on a European tour this March with Otep and their friends Ferium. See all tour dates below.
Montreal’s THE AGONIST will release their new album EYE OF PROVIDENCE on February 24 in North America and February 23 in Europe via Century Media Records. EYE OF PROVIDENCE is the follow up to THE AGONIST’s 2012 album PRISONERS and will be the debut of new vocalist Vicky Psarakis. The band has just completed the official video for “Gates of Horns and Ivory”. You can watch it now on the Century Media YouTube channel here:
Guitarist Danny Marino had this to say about the video:
“We had a great time shooting the Gates of Horn and Ivory video with our good friend and long time collaborator David Brodsky. It was great to finally have a video where we get to laugh at ourselves as well! If you’ve ever met the band you would know were not always as serious as our music may let on. The title and lyrics of Gates of Horn and Ivory were inspired by the ancient Greek text The Odyssey. It is said that within dreams should you see something enter through gates made of horn you can know it to be true in life. If the gates are ivory that it is a deception, and in life you should not trust whatever you saw come through those gates. It’s a very interesting concept and I adapted it to things I have witnessed in my life. For the video we decided to use the music industry as the setting for the duality of horn (truth) and ivory (deception).”

The band has made an album trailer for EYE OF PROVIDENCE. Check it out here:
Guitarist Danny Marino had this to say about the cover:
“We decided to go with a different medium for the cover art of Eye of Providence. We went with real photography and objects rather than hand drawn or CG as we have in the past. Deepti Suddul provided the awesome close up of the human eye. After that we passed it to Aaron Marsh who took our lyrics and concept to make the amazing cover art and album layout.”
