The new song, which will be part of the second album by vocalist Föxx Salema – like Marcie Free – one of the first trans artists in Hard Rock and Metal, celebrates the legacy of filmmaker George A. Romero and features cover art inspired by horror films and comics.
Available on all digital platforms, the single “Dead Flies Rising” was released on July 16th, the date of the American filmmaker’s death, as a tribute to his work. The track will be the fourth song on the artist’s upcoming studio album.

FÖXX SALEMA’s tribute focuses on Romero’s impact on culture. The director established the current concept of zombies with “Night of the Living Dead” (1968) and, in films like “Dawn of the Dead” (1978), used the undead as a metaphor to criticize consumerism and societal behavior. “Dead Flies Rising” takes this survival scenario to Heavy Metal, with a heavy and direct sound. The single’s cover art follows the theme and is inspired by classic horror comics, such as “CreepShow” (a film Romero himself directed in 1982, with a screenplay by Stephen King) and “Tales from the Crypt”.
FÖXX SALEMA wrote the lyrics, composed the song, and provided the vocals for this track, which surpassed over 1,000 streams on Spotify in its first few days of release.
Regarding the release, the vocalist comments: “George Romero, through his zombie films, reflected on the flaws and villainy of people in society. Releasing this song on the date he passed away is my way of keeping his work remembered in Heavy Metal. We wanted ‘Dead Flies Rising’ to have the feel of one of his films: fast and heavy.” Something that would speak directly to my lyrics. “Our visual art perfectly complements this tribute.”
The studio work featured keyboardist Cleber Magalhães and included music teacher Beto Lani on guitars, Italian Alessandro Moschini on bass, and hired drummer A. Kelvin. Alex Voorhees (Imago Mortis) was responsible for mixing and mastering. This single is co-sponsored by the Road to Metal portal, through Caco Garcia.
