Rock torchbearers GOV’T MULE will be re-releasing their incredible live set of Pink Floyd songs, ‘Dark Side of the Mule’ on glow in the dark 2LP vinyl on 27 May via Provogue / Mascot Label Group.
The album captures their 90-minute set of Pink Floyd covers recorded during the band’s 2008 Halloween show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA. During the performance they put their own stamp on Floyd’s expansive repertoire including “Breathe (In The Air)”, “Money”, “Time”, “Comfortably Numb,” “Fearless” and “Wish You Were Here”.
This was the second out of three special cover sets they did in their late-00s Halloween tradition. Previously, they had played a Led Zeppelin celebration in 2007 with a Rolling Stones spectacular that came in 2009 – the later also recently re-released via Provogue.
Dark Side of the Mule was originally released in December 2014 as part of the band celebrating their 20th anniversary and highlight the group’s versatility and epic, fearless live performances. No two Gov’t Mule shows are alike, as the band draws on the more than 300 songs in their repertoire to create a unique experience each and every time. Their steadily expanding fan base knows that the Mule always has something special waiting for them. Expect the unexpected.
The deep chemistry and steely confidence shared by the quartet allow them to tackle any form of music and stamp it their own while remaining true to the spirit and intent of the original. This can of course be heard any time guitarist-singer Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis take the stage, but a series of new live archival releases really drives the point home.
Warren Haynes’ unparalleled ability to bring together different musicians into a cohesive whole or to pull off epic musical happenings is one of the many reasons why Haynes stands apart from the many great front men and guitarists who have graced the musical landscape. Combined with his guitar and vocal mastery, these skills have made him an in-demand presence and indispensable musical ally for many.
Track list One Of These Days Fearless Pigs On The Wing, Pt. 2 Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 1 – 5 Have A Cigar Breathe (In The Air) Time Money Comfortably Numb Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 6 – 9 Wish You Were Here
Southern rock icons GOV’T MULE will be releasing their incredible live set of Rollings Stones songs, ‘Stoned Side of the Mule’ on CD and digitally for the first time as well as on transparent blue and transparent red 2LP vinyl. It will be released on 27 May via Provogue / Mascot Label Group.
The album captures an iconic night at The Tower Theater, Pennsylvania, on 31 October 2009. It followed the tradition of the bands special Halloween night performances. This was the third in the series of shows, paying homage to Messrs Jagger, Richards, Watts, Wyman, Wood and Jones of with a set of over two hours of solely The Rolling Stones covers. Previously, they had played Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd celebrations.
The album was initially released by Provogue in 2014 on a limited vinyl LP to celebrate the bands 20th anniversary and quickly sold out. But it has now been repressed and available in multiple formats.
On the album, they lovingly and gloriously travel through the Stones catalogue. The quartet’s deep chemistry and steely confidence allow them to tackle any form of music and stamp it their own while remaining true to the spirit and intent of the original. This can be heard any time guitarist-singer Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis take the stage, but a series of new live archival releases really drives the point home.
The show featured a long and varied set of impassioned, expertly executed covers as only the Mule can deliver, with special guests Jackie Greene (Phil Lesh & Friends, Black Crowes, Trigger Hippy) and saxophonist Steve Elson (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Radiohead, David Bowie).
They run through hits such as “Under My Thumb,” “Angie,” “Paint it Black,” and “Wild Horses”, as well as songs such as Bitch,” “Slave,” “Shattered,” “Ventilator Blues”, and more.
The rock torchbearers have an always epic and fearless live performance ethic which means no two Gov’t Mule shows are alike, as the band draws on the more than 300 songs in their repertoire (and often a host of special guests) to create a unique experience each and every time.

The title, Bring On The Music, taken from Gov’t Mule’s song of the same name that touches upon the passing of time and appreciating life’s journey, is a nod to the band’s treasured relationship with their fans. The Capitol Theatre has been the backdrop of many unforgettable shows for the band and is one of Gov’t Mule’s favorite venues to play. Inviting longtime Mule photographer and friend Danny Clinch to direct the film was also something of a destined choice, as Clinch’s relationship with Haynes pre-dates the band’s formation. A wide-ranging song selection from Gov’t Mule’s acclaimed catalog is featured on the deluxe release. Highlights include “Life Before Insanity” (the title track from their 2000 studio album), “Mr. Man” (from their 2004 album Déjà Voodoo) and several songs from the band’s most recent studio album Revolution Come… Revolution Go.
