Finnish Death metal band Hautajaisyö released their fifth album ‘Surun paino’ on March 20th 2026 via Inverse Records. The band has now decided to release an official live music video, which includes their new live show intro.

The band comments: “We’ve decided to give you one more treat from our latest album, Surun Paino. Here’s the video for the title track! We haven’t made an official live show music video before, but when we had an album release show in our hometown, we thought it was the right time. Filmed on 27 March at the Iisalmi Youth Centre, it continues the DIY approach of our other videos. It was filmed using three GoPro cameras and one moving camera. The video starts with our new live show intro, created by Sami Lustig.”

The band’s bassist Simo Pesonen also made a dungeon synth version ‘Lyhyt matka luolaan’ from the track ‘Lyhyt matka hautaan’ and it’s available here:
The band talks about each of the tracks on the album.
01. Surun Paino (Weight of Sorrow). This was the last song we wrote for this album. The album had a different name before this, and the artwork was ready. However, the song was so good that we decided to use it as the title and opening track.
02. Maan Nielemä (Swallowed by Dirt). This song practically wrote itself. Sami and Teemu wrote it before practice and it was ready to go. It’s a really brutal live song. It’s Hautajaisyö at its best, which is why it’s the first single.
03. Kuusi Kantajaa (Six Pallbearers). The song starts with the guitar, and then the others follow. There are great riffs and it’s really catchy. At gigs, the audience has sung the choir parts. This song is very similar to our older song, “Revin Ihoni Rikki”.
04. Kasvoton Kuljettaja (Faceless Driver). This was one of the last songs we wrote for this album, and we were still making changes to the arrangements a few days before recording. The song delves into death metal, and the lyrics were inspired by a nightmare that Janne’s co-worker had.
05. Hetki Viimeinen (Last Moment). This was the first song we wrote for this album. We have played it live many times. When we recorded it, we decided to slow it down a bit, which made it nice and groovy.
06. Lyhyt Matka Hautaan (A Short Journey to the Grave). Sami wanted to create a song with more black metal elements. The result was a slightly different song with more arrangements. In the end, we got a good, brutal song that will be a crowd-pleaser at gigs. This song was initially called ‘That Weird Song’.
07. Eloton (Lifeless). Originally, this was the first track on the album, but it ended up being placed later on. It’s a really traditional Hautajaisyö song that could have been on our third album. A strong start with a good groove. We started our 10-year anniversary gigs with this song.
08. Haaskalinnut minut muistaa (Vultures will remember me). It’s the second oldest song on the album, where we tried a slightly different arrangement. Once we were ready, this was the first song to find its place on the album. The grand, sorrow-filled ending is emphasised by the outro made by Sami.

Finnish Death metal band Hautajaisyö are set to release their fifth album ‘Surun paino’ on March 20th 2026 via Inverse Records. The second single ‘Kuusi Kantajaa’ is unleashed today and music video can be seen below.
The music video differs from the official single in that it features guest appearances by the Jumalaudat choir and cameos from Finnish metal bands: Surujuhla, Messiah Paratroops, Defiled Serenity, Kituma, Vahinkolapsi, and Chordae Exitium.
Janne Partanen comments the single:
” ‘Kuusi Kantajaa’ has been a hit with audiences from the moment it was first performed live. As the audience shouts along with the choir, the song is taken to a new level. This song has a similar feel to our older hit, ‘Revin Ihoni Rikki’, but only time will tell if it will be as popular.”

Finnish Death metal band Hautajaisyö are set to release their fifth album ‘Surun paino’ on March 20th 2026 via Inverse Records. The first single ‘Maan nielemä’ is unleashed today, accompanied by a music video available below.
The first single from the new Hautajaisyö album, Surun Paino (Weight of Sorrow), comes with brutality. ‘Maan Nielemä’ (Swallowed by Dirt) showcases the band at their best. It features heavy riffs, violent drums and low-growl vocals. The song is inspired by the year 536, the “Year of Darkness”, when the world was shrouded in darkness and nearly all of humanity perished. Amidst the chaos, a lone gravedigger toils endlessly. The song has a DIY music video which was filmed in one take at the band’s practice venue. This fits well, as the album was recorded by the band themselves using their own equipment.
” ‘Maan Nielemä’ is one of my favourite songs from the new album. It hits like a hammer on hot metal, and you can feel the darkness of the song. Making the video was damn fun. We had a rough idea of what we wanted to do, and we tried to keep the costs down. Then we just ‘hit our heads against the wall’ until we had the finished video.” says vocalist Janne Partanen

HAUTAJAISYÖ (Funeral Night) are 10 years old this year. To celebrate, they are re-releasing their first recordings with some bonus material through Inverse Records.
The re-release includes two songs “Uneenkuiskaajat” (Dreamwhisperer) and “Päänsärkijä” (Headbreaker) from the band’s debut album in an original promo mix. As a bonus you get unreleased intro song “Kuiskaukset” (Whispers) and different version of the song “Köysi” (Rope), which was released on the 2016 “Three Screams of Insanity” split tape.
This is not the only release for 2024, as the new “EN MURRU EN TAIVU” EP will be released at the end of the year, on which the band will re-record three songs from the first album and one song from the demo sessions. These releases should tide listeners over until the band’s forthcoming fifth album, which they are currently composing.

Finnish Death metallers HAUTAJAISYÖ are set to release their fourth studio album “Ei Hauta Kysy Lupaa” on August 5th 2022 via Inverse Records. The second single Harhaluulo’ is released today.
The band comments: “Harhaluulo (Delusion) is the second single from the upcoming ”Ei Hauta Kysy Lupaa” (Grave won’t ask permission) album and it starts with a aggressive riff. The song is raw and fast song about the delusion that we’d matter in this world. Even though we are just a blink of a eye in this planet’s lifetime.”
