On September 15th, BELPHEGOR will unleash their new full-length inferno “Totenritual”, bringing once again merciless black/death sound into the world. Today, the band unveils a studio trailer showing front man Helmuth Lehner during the recording process of the rhythm guitars for the 9 crushing new tracks.
Watch the clip here:
»Totenritual« was recorded at Stage One Studios, Germany and Studio Mischmaschine, Austria. Over three years have passed since the »Conjuring The Dead« album was released. The new album will be mixed by Jason Suecof and mastering done by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer Studios, Florida.
The artwork will once again be created by Greek artist Seth Siro Anton, who also painted the cover artwork for »Pestokalypse VI« in 2006 and »Conjuring The Dead« in 2014.
European diabolical death/black metal commandos BELPHEGOR are back in the studio to record their 11th still untitled album! The LP will act as the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2014 recording “Conjuring The Dead”. Expect a release date of mid September through Nuclear Blast Entertainment, followed by an intense touring cycle worldwide.
Frontman/founder guitarist Helmuth Lehner has given an update on BELPHEGOR´s current run in the studio: “Drums and bass guitar have been executed masterfully by Serpenth (Bass, screams) and German maniac drummer Bloodhammer. A new chapter, a new challenge.”
Serpenth adds: “We’ve once again created an LP with two different tunings in the manner in which we did »Pestapokalypse VI« (Oct. 2006). We’ve added a lot of new elements and structures to our trademark sound and tuned the guitars down to achieve even more brutal and obscure effects. These are the most furiously heavy, fierce and superior nine sound collages we have ever written and recorded.”
Keep an eye on out for news informing on details such as the album title, producer, studio trailer, as well as lyrical and artistic concepts – infos coming soon!

Guitarist/vocalist Helmuth Lehner of the Austrian blackened death metal outfit BELPHEGOR, who underwent “a serious and difficult” operation last October, is still not fully recovered and will therefore be unable to handle lead vocals at the band’s upcoming Extremefest appearances. Filling in for him until he is “able to do the vocals again and give 100 percent” wil be the band’s former bassist, Bartholomäus “Barth” Resch, who is described by Helmuth as “our man behind the curtain since 1998.” Helmuth adds, “[Barth] knows exactly how we roll.”
Extremefest dates are as follows:
July 5-7 – Hünxe, Germany – ExtremeFest Germany
July 5-7 – St. Pölten, Austria – ExtremeFest Austria
July 5-7 – Z7 – Pratteln, Switzerland – ExtremeFest Switzerland
BELPHEGOR entered Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE) to begin laying down its as-yet-untitled new CD for a March 2013 release via Nuclear Blast Records. The recording sessions and the mixing/mastering process will be completed by mid-October.
Rutan previously stated about the upcoming CD: “I am very excited to be recording and mixing the new BELPHEGOR album at Mana. After many discussions with Helmuth and hearing some clips of new material, I know that the band is very focused and determined on making a harmoniously evil extreme masterpiece. We shall make one beast of an album that the fans have come to expect from BELPHEGOR!”
BELPHEGOR‘s last album, “Blood Magick Necromance”, was released in January 2011 in Europe and February 2011 in the U.S. via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was produced by Peter Tägtgren (IMMORTAL, CELTIC FROST, HYPOCRISY, DIMMU BORGIR) at his Abyss Studios in Pärlby, Sweden and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren.
