IMPUREZA are celebrating the one-year anniversary of their critically-acclaimed fourth album Alcázares with a new live video that features their full performance at this year’s Hellfest. “Una mañana con Impureza” shows the Hispanic metallers bringing brutal death metal to dance with flamenco on one of the world’s biggest stages.

Alcázares is a a concept record that traces the arc of the Spanish Reconquista from 722 to 1492 A.D. Impureza recount medieval siege warfare, religious persecution, black magic and the fall of Al-Andalus through a fusion of brutal death metal, flamenco guitar, fretless bass, and orchestral arrangements. On stage at Hellfest, the Hispanic metal band are joined by bailaora flamenca Cécilia Cappozzo.

They first lit the torch for flamenco death metal more than a decade ago, but Impureza are blazing toward the front line of extreme metal behind their new Reconquista-themed album.

“When it comes to inventive ways to make your death metal cooler, Impureza has one of my favorites”, says Angry Metal Guy, who named Alcázares one of the best records of July. “… a violent, poetic invocation of Spain’s medieval imagination, and it sports an enchanting vibe that recalls some of the best records I own”.

Today, Impureza are releasing a new video for “Covadonga”, which recounts a legendary moment in medieval history with the band’s cutting-edge fusion ripping alongside bailaora Cécile “La Cécilia” Cappozzo.

Alcázares, the long-awaited third album by Franco-Spanish conquistadors IMPUREZA is out now and streaming now on the Season of Mist YouTube channel. The album marks the band’s return to the frontline of extreme metal with a work as steeped in mysticism as it is in violence.

Conceptually rooted in the Spanish Reconquista (722–1492), Alcázares unfolds as a fantastical and historical epic: eleven tracks channeling the collapse of Islamic Iberia and the merciless rise of Christian dominion.

Fusing guttural death metal with flamenco guitar, orchestral flourishes, and Spanish-language vocals, IMPUREZA construct a sonic Alcázar; where the sacred and savage co-exist. Tracks such as “Reconquistar Al-Ándalus” and “Castigos Eclesiásticos” invoke the spiritual violence of holy war, portraying crusading zeal and inquisitorial cruelty with an unflinching eye. Elsewhere, instrumentals like “Verdiales” and “Murallas” serve as meditative interludes between blood-soaked battle hymns. Franco-Spanish outfit IMPUREZA unveil their latest single “Verdiales & Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo,” taken from the upcoming concept album Alcázares, due out July 11, 2025 via Season of Mist. Structured as a two-part composition, the piece opens the album with “Verdiales,” an instrumental homage to the folk traditions of Málaga, before launching into the martial might of “Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo”—a blistering retelling of the legendary exploits of El Cid.

IMPUREZA is a Spanish metal band formed in 2004 by guitarist Lionel Cano Muñoz from Orléans. Their music is distinguished by a unique fusion of extreme metal and Spanish sounds inspired by Andalusian culture and flamenco, creating an atypical style known as Hispanic Metal. Impureza remains an innovative project in the international metal scene, making it a pioneer of the genre.

The entire concept of the band revolves around the voluptuousness of Latin atmospheres, the ferocity of metal, and Spanish culture and history, explored through a fictional and esoteric aspect. Their compositions feature both clean and guttural vocals sung in the language of Cervantes, flamenco guitar, acoustic fretless bass, extreme metal, and orchestral arrangements that evoke the colors of Spain. The very essence of their music lies in the duality between two seemingly opposed musical genres, which, through clever composition, give birth to a new and avant-garde style. Their fiery music is literally the union of traditional Hispanic folklore and extreme metal. These metal warriors brandish their Iberian sounds as weapons with pride. This ingenious alliance is matched only by the singular and unprecedented creative originality of its founder Lionel Cano Muñoz and his compañero Esteban Martín, both of Spanish nationality. Impureza’s conquistadors draw inspiration from their strong identity, which defines the band’s very essence. Impureza’s members are also influenced by many Spanish artists such as flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía and gypsy singer Camarón de la Isla, as well as bands like Behemoth, Morbid Angel, Krisiun, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, among others.
