PAUL ALLENDER is known worldwide as the main songwriter and guitarist of CRADLE OF FILTH… but did you know, that he’s also a very Talented Dark Artist? The other day I had an interesting chat with Paul, trying to find out more about this other side of him… and his VOMITORIUM ART!
Hi Paul, welcome back to Metal Shock! some months ago we had a chat and we were talking about music, but today we’ve another topic.. 🙂
Thanks Tarja, pleasure to be back my friend (;,,;)
Paul, besides you’re the main songwriter and guitarist of Cradle of Filth but you’re also a very talented artist. Let’s talk about the beginning… how and when everything started, artistic-wise?
It all started in 1996 when I befriended with the owner of a design company, he let me go there in the evenings to teach myself Photoshop. After playing around with the software I was pretty hooked with it and found out that I had a great understanding for the program which lead me to learn as much as I could.

Aniruddh “Andrew” Bansal of Metal Assault conducted a short interview with Jamey Jasta of HATEBREED and KINGDOM OF SORROW at the third annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which was held on Wednesday, April 20 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, California.
On his upcoming solo album, “Jasta”:
Jamey: “It’s just more of the thrash and rock element in it. I think there’s a lot more clean singing than I’m used to doing. It’s a lot of stuff that I recorded for other artists, but it ended up sounding cool so I just left it in there. My engineer was really liking the stuff that I was doing. I still have a lot of guest parts on there — Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD, Zakk Wylde, Phil Labonte [of ALL THAT REMAINS], Tim from AS I LAY DYING, Mark Morton from LAMB OF GOD — so it’s just like a fun project before we do the next HATEBREED album.”
“I did all of it by myself, except for the guest parts. I did it all throughout 2008, 2009 and 2010 so it was fun to go back, listen to those old tracks and go, ‘These are still good, let’s release them!’ I’m just very lucky that I’m in a position to be able to do this and I’m grateful that the eOne label is giving it such a great push.”
On whether the release of his solo album will impact songwriting for the next HATEBREED CD:
Jamey: “No, not at all. Actually that’s why I wanted to get it out now because the next HATEBREED album is going to be short, to the point and brutal, and there will be no melody. This is my one chance to kind of get it out of the system.”
On touring plans for the solo material:
Jamey: “I don’t see myself doing a lot of touring for this at all. I’d like to, but I really want to focus on getting HATEBREED out for the rest of the year. We’ll be going to South America, Australia, then we’ll do Europe and the States again so it’s going to be a lot of touring. Plus the only time to see KINGDOM OF SORROW is this summer on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. That is the only time you’ll see me and Kirk [Windstein, KINGDOM OF SORROW guitarist] together because DOWN is going to be busy, CROWBAR will be busy, and HATEBREED too. So this is it.”
On shuffling multiple projects:
Jamey: “I’m just busy and it’s a good problem to have. There are no complaints and I just want to keep doing music and having a good time.”
On interacting with fans on Twitter:
Jamey: “You know, it’s cool because I just started talking to some people there and they got me verified. I find that as cool because there are not a lot of metal guys on there. I mean, some bands are on there. I saw SLAYER‘s on there, Dave Mustaine‘s on there. But they aren’t really interacting with the fans. So I just try to do something different and I do a lot of Q&As [question-and-answer sessions], and I have a total of 25,000 followers now, so it’s cool.”
Jasta will release his solo album, simply titled “Jasta”, on July 26 via eOne Music. The CD will be made available in Europe one day earlier through Century Media Records.
A three-minute video clip in which Jasta explains his decision to release the CD can be viewed below.

BLOOD MORTIZED was founded in Stockholm, Sweden in late 2007. The music is heavily influenced by old school death metal from the the early 90‘s, mainly from the golden “Studio Sunlight era“. I had a pleasant chat with Mattias Borgh, the band’s drummer, please join our conversation…
Hej Mattias, välkommen till “Metal Shock”! hur mår du?
Tjenare! Jodå, jag mår helt OK, trött eftersom jag var ute och och firade en kompis igår, man börjar bli gammal nu haha!
In your biography there’s written: “Old style dirty-rotten-unpolished Swedish Death Metal the way it was truly meant!” … so, describe us the sound of Blood Mortized…
The sound we have I would describe as honest and real. When I record drums in Underworld Recording I don´t do any editing at all. What you hear is what I played, if I make mistakes I record until I am satisfied. That also goes for the rest of the instruments. We have a more old school aproach towards recording and playing music. We grew up recording on tape machines, with slim to none option of editing, for example moving drum beats around and copy paste parts to make a song. The dirty sound comes from the small imperfections on the recordings. I am a human being and I prefer my drum parts to sound human. I have a lot of problems with the modern productions where every beat is 100% tight on the beat and these sampled triggered drums are digusting, blergh! So for us Blood Mortized is Old style dirty-rotten-unpolished Swedish Death Metal the way it was truly meant! Simple as that! Ughhh! Haha!

EMBER’S FLAME is a rock band from Finland playing melodic rock with 2010’s sounds and due respect to 70’s and 80’s traditional classic rock. The band released debut single (She Said) in 2009 and has been making the debut long play since the summer 2010. Recording, mixing and mastering have been completed. The album is produced by Andy McCoy. But let’s learn more about EMBER’S FLAME, some days ago, Sami Toivonen, the band’s singer and guitarist, told me this…
Hi Sami, I’m Tarja and welcome to Metal Shock! what’s up?
Hi Tarja and thanks! Everything is cool down here in Finland. Even the last piles of snow are melting and the sun is shining warmer by the minute. We’re really in the middle of several things at the moment, e.g. arranging record deal and booking gigs to support the new album.
