DARKEST ERA are a Northern Irish metal band, formed under the name Nemesis in mid 2005. They combine influences from folk music, black, doom and true metal to create a unique sound which is an epic, dark, celtic heavy metal. In August 2010, DARKEST ERA announced that they had signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records, and wasted no time in entering the studio to record their highly anticipated debut album. The result is ‘The Last Caress Of Light’, a record which mixes the melancholy and atmosphere of Irish Folk with the epic might of heavy metal bands such as Warlord, Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy. The album stands out from all else as a record of intense emotional power and honesty; holding the listener within a dark heavy metal storm and not letting go until the last chords have rung out.
…and some weeks ago I had a pleasure to chat with the band’s guitarist, Ade Mulgrew.
Hi Ade, I’m Tarja. and welcome to Metal Shock! How’re you doing today?
Hi Tarja, I’m pretty good! Busy as always but busy is good. Got some Black Sabbath on in the background, ready to answer your questions!

On February 13, Aniruddh “Andrew” Bansal of Metal Assault conducted an interview with bassist Jarkko Aaltonen of Finnish folk metallers KORPIKLAANI. The chat can now be streamed HERE.
“Tequila”, the new video from KORPIKLAANI, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band’s new album, “Ukon Wacka”, which will be released in North America on February 25 via Nuclear Blast Records.
According to the band, “Ukon Wacka, or Ukon Vakat, is a pagan sacrificial feast from ancient times, on which a special made beer richly flowed. As can be expected from the title, this album has an ancient and very folky feel and is totally in Finnish. To make the lyrics understandable for non-Finnish people, we will add an English description/translation in the booklet as usual. The album consists of 10 songs, among which you will find a song name ‘Tequila’, which is especially written for (and inspired by) our South American fans, with whom we celebrated such hard times, and who welcomed us so warmly, when we were touring in South America. Another surprise is the title song, ‘Ukon Wacka’, in which a special guest features: the famous Finnish singer Tuomari Nurmio! Last but not least features a tribute song (‘Päät Pois Tai Hirteen’) to the Finnish rock band PEER GÜNT, a great and underestimated band. We hope and expect that this album will give you as much joy as we had making it; a big folky feast for all!”

Well, I’m not going to write any presentation of a Man who is already well-known to everyone in the metal world… I just write his name: Timo Tolkki… and what is he up today, I asked it a couple of days ago when we met at Ithil World Studio in Imperia (Italy) where he was mixing his new album from Symfonia, “In Paradisum”, due for release March 25 2011. We met on monday afternoon, January 24, on the second mixing day in studio…
Hi Timo, first of all, thanks for this interview! How are you today?
Hi Tarja! Oh, I wonder how I am today? Busy here in the studio, Imperia. It’s actually pretty nice to be here, it’s +10 degrees, which seems pretty cool, because the last three months we’ve been in the snow drifts in the middle of Finland and Sweden.
