Interview: Cradle of Filth, As A Darkly Erotic Nightmare

One of the most infamous and notorious names in metal, Cradle Of Filth continues to shock, excite, disgust and inspire in equal measures. On November 1st 2010, the latest chapter of the band’s dark history is to be released through Peaceville Records on the band’s own AbraCadaver inprint. Titled “Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa” is their ninth studio album.
Cradle Of Filth have been pioneers of extreme music since their debut in 1994 and have continued to evolve with each of their subsequent releases. Unafraid of ruffling a few feathers, the band have continually refused to bow to convention or to conform to prevalent trends and fads. Yet despite this uncompromising stance the band are still the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden, with legions of fans around the globe.

Interview: All Ends, Straight From the Swedish Metal Heart

Gothenburg is Sweden’s metal heart and no doubt the All Ends are destined to become one of the big names at the international level. Their unique sound is related to two strong front-women, Tinna and Jonna, and together with guitarist Peter and Frederik and drummer Joey want to conquer the world. Their new (and second) album “A Road To Depression” will be released October 15 (that is today) via Nuclear Blast, with 11 strong tracks ,very catchy and for many musical tastes.

Right on time, the other afternoon, drummer Joseph “Joey” Skansås shows up on telephone interview, and from the very first words I understand to talk to a real character, full of life, motivated to do and split the world. Words, funny lines and lots of laughter, in Italian, English and in Swedish, just impossible to write down them all …

Nodding Sky, Gloomy And Melancholic Vibes In Vein Of 90’s… (Interview)

Nodding Sky comes from Turku, the oldest city and former capital of Finland, situated on the southwest coast. In this vivid city lives a bunch of guys, who couple of years ago decided to form a band. Their main idea was to play whatever came naturally out of their five-thumbed hands … and the result was quite surprising! To describe their music, it’s some kind of moody, mid-tempo, melodic and folkish/doomish/whateverish metal in vein of 90’s… This is Nodding Sky! But let’s know more about what runs in their head …

Q: Hi Nodding Sky! Your band has an interesting name … can you tell me about how you game up to this choice?

O-P: Hi Tarja! Ok, we threw some name candidates in the air and picked the one we felt most comfortable with. As soon as this one came up, we felt it inspired our imagination more than the other more “common and typical” name proposals we had. We like the gloomy and melancholic vibe it has and think that it stirs up some curiosity as it’s open to multiple interpretations.

Angra, The Goddness Of Fire Has Awakened

Angra is a power metal band from São Paulo, Brazil, known for its symphonic interludes, highly technical instrumental playing and Brazilian regional elements. The band’s story starts in 1991. The debut album (released in 1993) “Angels Cry” was a great success in Brazil as well as in Japan where it sold over 100,000 copies. That year Angra dominated the polls of the Brazilian magazine Rock Brigade obtaining awards for Best New Band, Best Album, Best Singer, Best Album Cover and Best Keyboard Player.

After six successful albums, followed by some disagreements with a ex-drummer, and problems with the former management, Angra, in 1998, stopped for a year, focusing for the various personal projects …  only to come back and stand up together on stage, stronger than ever, completed with the same passion to share deep and endless emotions with the public … The Goddess of Fire, Angra, had awakened …

Although I normally listen to more heavy stuff … even though my heart is beating with the rhythms of metal/hardcore  I’m deeply fascinated in front of “Aqua”. I admit that previously I knew quite little of their music, but in these past days I’ve got a nice and very pleasant full-immersion, while listening to this new album (and of course the older releases)
…relaxed and led by some Shakespeare action, smoothly running before my eyes …

… The phone rings, making me come back to reality, it’s 4 pm, and the friendly voice of Rafael (Bittencourt), Angra’s guitarist, greets me from Brazil. We had set the interview for that evening at 8 o’clock, but he wanted to ask me if we could do it earlier… like now? Believe me, I didn’t have anything against it … 🙂
