Report: IRON MAIDEN Rocker-Turned-Pilot Heads Back To Day Job After Airline Collapse

IRON MAIDEN rocker BRUCE DICKINISON may have to return to music full-time after the dramatic collapse of the airline where he has worked for years as a senior pilot.

The 53-year-old singer, who works for Astraeus Airlines, was flying 250 holidaymakers from Jeddah International Airport in Saudi Arabia, to Manchester, when he learnt the airline was due to be placed into administration and had been ordered to cease operations with immediate effect.

The UK charter airline, which leases planes to many major carriers to cover routes when needed, has blamed ‘lower-than-expected levels of business’ during the summer a lack of contracts for winter 2011-2012, and ‘some extremely bad luck with a number of technical issues’, for the failure.

Legendary British metallers IRON MAIDEN have announced that they have arranged to take over the whole of Hopton Holiday Park near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, U.K. for three full nights next October.

Commented the organizers: “We plan to cram, the long weekend full of MAIDEN madness including guest speakers, themed events and tournaments. There will be quizzes to test your MAIDEN knowledge and if you fancy being Bruce [Dickinson, vocals] for a while, then you can show off your vocal talent in a karaoke competition. If you need to find that elusive piece of MAIDEN memorabilia, then you might just find it amongst the trading tables that we will set up. There are TV screens throughout the park that will be playing all of your favourite MAIDEN DVDs and videos.

“We’ve already booked the bands that will rock your weekend! We’ve got two fantastic MAIDEN tribute bands — HI-ON MAIDEN and MAIDEN SCOTLAND. There’s POCKET GODZILLAS with their own brand of pumped-up power punk pop and the brilliant rock covers band THE FALLEN to fill the weekend with all the kind of music you love.

‘Lullaby Versions’ Of IRON MAIDEN Songs Now Available

Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star, the company which creates “beautiful lullaby versions of your favorite artists,” has just released “Lullaby Versions Of Iron Maiden” via iTunes. The 12-track set features reworkings of metal classics such as “Run To The Hills”, “The Trooper” and “Fear Of The Dark”.

In its mission statement, Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star says, “We feel our lullaby line fills a vacant musical niche. There are other lines of pop music lullabies but we decided to take the approach of being high end musically rather than simply doing these as a novelty. IRON MAIDEN Singer Slams Norwegian Mass Murderer, Says Band’s Music ‘Unites People’ (Video)

IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson has slammed Anders Breivik, the man responsible for killing 77 people in Norway, as an “asshole.”

Breivik, a white native Norwegian, was described by the Guardian as “a Christian fundamentalist with a deep hatred of multiculturalism, of the left, and of Muslims.”

During IRON MAIDEN‘s concert last night (Friday, August 5) at the O2 Arena in London, England, Dickinson introduced the song “Blood Brothers” by saying, “[IRON] MAIDEN is not just about [playing in places like] this now — MAIDEN is about everywhere in the world.

“There’s something [in our music and message] that unites people, and it doesn’t matter what color they are or what religion they are, or whether they are male or female or somewhere in between.

“We were in Belfast the other night [where you hear] all the bullshit about Protestant, Catholic, this and that and the other. And I just said, ‘Look, this is a safe house, this is our house, this is MAIDEN‘s house, everybody’s fucking welcome and we don’t turn anybody away, no matter who they are. Except maybe… We were in Oslo the other week [where] the most recent, bullshit, appalling atrocity wasn’t committed by a Muslim, it was committed by somebody who called themselves a Christian — the asshole over there, really. Unbelievable.”

Sabaton To Support Iron Maiden In Sweden

Swedish metallers SABATON will be the main support for IRON MAIDEN on July 1 at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg Sweden. Also scheduled to appear is GRAVEYARD.

Commented SABATON: “We are really happy to announce that we will be the main support of IRON MAIDEN when they visit Sweden on their current tour. The show will be in the biggest open air arena in Sweden, thus making it the biggest show in SABATON history… so far.”

SABATON drummer Daniel Mullback was forced to sit out the remaining dates on the band’s recent European tour “due to problems with his knees.” He was temporarily replaced by Robert Bäck. Also performing with SABATON during the trek was DRAGONFORCE bassist Frédéric Leclercq. He filled in for regular SABATON guitarist Rikard Sundén, who “has decided to multiply himself and will have his first kid at this time,” according to a statement released by the band.
