British metal gods JUDAS PRIEST have checked in with the following brief year-end message: “We wish all of our fans a great Christmas and a very metal New Year! We will be releasing a new album sometime in 2014 so stay tuned!”
In August Priest singer Rob Halford spoke with Gary Graff from Billboard about the band’s new album and follow-up to 2008’s concept piece Nostradamus.
“The writing process is complete,” he says. “Now it’s the painstaking work of making sure that you get every single note, every single nuance of the vocal, every tiny aspect…right. We’re still tracking (instruments). It’s just a very laborious but enjoyable part of making the record.”
Priest is producing the album itself at the moment, but Halford notes that “there’s always a possibility somebody might come in to overview some of the things we’re doing.”
Halford describes the project’s sound as “hard. It’s heavy. It’s something we think our Priest fans will be thrilled with. We know we have a reputation to maintain, and we know we have to deliver something really strong and solid. The album is going to be full of all the great things you love about Judas Priest — I don’t think I can say anything more than that without being hung, drawn and quartered.”
Fans can now jam with JUDAS PRIEST. Get the isolated tracks for ‘The Hellion/Electric Eye’ from Screaming For Vengeance with scrolling tab and notation via Jammit.
Jammit allows you to isolate an instrument that would be otherwise embedded in the mix and view the ultra-accurate notation all in one easy to use piece of software. Whether you play guitar, bass, drums or sing vocals, you’ll be able to hear nuances in your favorite Priest songs that you’ve never heard before. Slow down and looping features make it even easier to learn to play the parts precisely the way they were originally recorded.
Radio.com recently uploaded an interview with Judas Priest singer ROB HALFORD. In the interview, he talks about the band’s future, 2WO (the project with NINE INCH NAILS’ Trent Reznor) and THREE TREMORS.
“As Andy Warhol said, the most exciting part of any event is the anticipation and waiting for it,” he says, discussing Judas Priest‘s next album. “We’re making a new record,” Halford continues, “which we can’t talk about because we’ve been verboten by the label and management.”
One other project that has been on the back-burner is the infamous Three Tremors group: a trio featuring IRON MAIDEN’s singer Bruce Dickinson and former QUEENSRŸCHE frontman Geoff Tate.
“That’s still waiting to get off the ground. Even now, people are discussing it. it’s one of those things that needs to be fulfilled, I don’t know how it’s gonna happen or when it’s gonna happen but it would be very interesting to see what the outcome would be.” For now, the next project from Halford is the new Judas Priest album. As for the Three Tremors, metal fans can now enjoy the anticipation for a full-length Halford/Dickinson/Tate album.

According to Bravewords.com, The US Festival (US is an acronym for “Unite Us In Song”) held on Memorial Day of 1983 was a massive three-day celebration of music and culture sponsored by Steve Wozniak, formerly of Apple Computer. Wozniak financed the entire thing himself (approx. 10 million dollars), and his motivation quoted as “to throw a big party in the middle of nowhere” is quite an understatement. This festival was a follow up to 1982 Labor Day inaugural Us Festival events. The festivals were intended to be the celebration of evolving technologies; a marriage of music, computers, television and people.
Us Festival 1983: Days 1 – 3 includes the 3 days of New Wave, Heavy Metal and Rock in 1983 with performances from U2, THE CLASH, JUDAS PRIEST, STEVIE NICKS, SCORPIONS, INXS, MEN AT WORK, STRAY CATS, TRIUMPH, MISSING PERSONS and more. This includes the legendary U2 performance of ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’, The Clash’s final performance with Mick Jones, a seminal performance for INXS in the US, and many other landmark moments in music history. It is estimated that over 670,000 fans attended.
The festivals included large air-conditioned tents featuring the US Festival Technology Exposition a dazzling display of then-cutting edge computers, software, and electronic music devices. Also making a debut were installations of “out-door rain”, perforated pvc nozzles that sprayed water to fight the fierce hundred-degree heat.
The US Festival interest remains strong 30 years later in pop culture with mentions in The Simpsons, Malcom In The Middle, Dharma & Greg and other popular TV shows. US Festival 1983 is produced by Icon Television Music, Inc. and Unuson Corporation with the cooperation of Steve Wozniak. This is the only Unuson sanctioned official release of US Festival 1983 at iTunes and on DVD.
US Festival 1983 is directed by award winning filmmaker and music biographer Glenn Aveni and includes insight from Mark Goodman, one of the original VJ’s that covered the Us Festival in 1983 for the newly launched MTV Channel.
US Festival 1983 Days 1 – 3 are available on iTunes for $9.99 each. Order the DVD (available December 3rd) at this location.

According to Bravewords.com, Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing spoke with Moe Nawaz from Success News recently about his success in the metal world and as a businessman running his own golf course which he built from scratch, including a hotel and now holiday homes.
According to Law360.com, JUDAS PRIEST lead singer Rob Halford, other PRIEST members, and the band’s management team have reached a settlement with Rob‘s longtime manager John Baxter in a breach-of-contract suit.
U.S. District Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel granted the parties’ joint motion for dismissal on Thursday after they said they’d reached a settlement. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Halford, his PRIEST bandmates and the group management team were sued by Baxter to the tune of around $50 million. Rolling Stone reported that Baxter‘s suit, which can be found as a PDF document at this location, alleges “fraud, breach of contract, and intentional interference with contractual relations.” Shortly after Halford fired Baxter in August 2012, Baxter claimed that he realized that the PRIEST frontman owed him millions due to “contract breaches, including failure to pay commissions, salary and expenses dating back to 1992.” He said that Halford misled him by saying that he was unable to pay Baxter the monies owed him, but promised to do so when he had the money at hand.
Baxter was fired on August 9, 2012 by a letter from a U.K. law firm stating, in part, “It has become clear over recent weeks that the relationships between our parties has run its course and that you are not acting in our clients’ best interests. . . (Your actions have) placed an intolerable strain upon our clients’ ability to maintain constructive and professional relations with the remaining members of JUDAS PRIEST and their representatives at this crucial time.”
Baxter‘s lawyer Barry K. Rothman told Rolling Stone: “It was wrongful termination because there’s no basis to have terminated. They have their own agenda. Baxter has been managing (Halford) for decades. JUDAS PRIEST was coming to an end and the JUDAS PRIEST people wanted to engage Halford in his solo endeavor and to continue to have a relationship with him which was not possible with Baxter in the middle. There’s a whole reason why this all of the sudden abruptly came to an end.”
