BEASTIVAL: KATATONIA And INSOMNIUM Confirmed

Hubble Music Promotion have announced the following news:

 

Brace yourselves for the summer of 2013 – for it marks the first installment of the brand new and gargantuan BEASTIVAL festival series that will supply you with supreme heaviness, the biggest acts in metal and mean shredding!!! This three-day headbanger`s feast will take place May 30th to June 1st and will get you a perfect start into your very own heavy summer! Located in Geiselwind, Germany the line up that will enter two stages already looks like a wet dream come true. Beside SABATON, WINTERSUN, KATAKLYSM, SATYRICON and many other bands the “Big Teutonic 4″ KREATOR, SODOM, DESTRUCTION and TANKARD have been announced.
Now, two further bands have been confirmed:
KATATONIA
KATATONIA were founded in Sweden 1991 and enticed many a listener with a sombre mixture of doom, black and death metal. With “Discouraged ones” (1998), the band started to embrace a more quiet approach full of melancholic dark metal structures – and, as the recent “Dead end kings” (2012) shows, with room for progressive touches too. Indulge in some supreme melancholia with KATATONIA at the BEASTIVAL!

INSOMNIUM
People from Finland somehow seem to be destined to add a certain dose of melancholia to their songs: INSOMNIUM from Joensuu are no exception from this rule! Ever since the debut “In the halls of awaiting” (2002), the band stands for finest melodic death metal combined with doom, depression and solemn elements. No wonder with album titles such as “One for sorrow” (2011)!

EPICA Confirm Venues For Upcoming Turkish Shows; KATATONIA Drop Off Bill

It was recently announced that EPICA and KATATONIA would be teaming up for a pair of shows in Turkey this February. According to an update from the Epica camp, Katatonia will NOT be appearing at either of the scheduled shows.

OPETH recently announced their North American Heritage Tour 2013, featuring direct support from KATATONIA. The upcoming run will conquer over 30 cities this spring beginning April 18th in Buffalo, NY.

Vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt has this to say about the trek, “Hi people! Looks like we’re coming back to North America in the spring. Again we’re a “buddy” package as we’re going with Katatonia once more. On top of that STEVEN WILSON will be added to the bill in Albany on the 28th of April. Very much looking forward to this and we hope you are too. We’ve deliberately booked ourselves in some small sized venues in areas where we could play quadruple capacity venues. Why? I don’t know really, it was my idea. More intimate shows are usually my personal favourites. I know since we played everything from bars/cafe’s to arenas, and I know what I prefer personally. Setlist-wise we’ve been all over the place for the last 200 shows. It will be a mixed set, hopefully something for everybody. The band is on top form and I think we’ll be able to deliver a show that will be memorable to you. At least I hope so. Cheers guys, and see you soon!”

Tickets are on sale now for the tour. Says the band: “VIP packages for Quebec, Halifax, Moncton, Guelph, Allentown, Brooklyn, Athens, Raleigh, Joliet, LA and Ventura have SOLD OUT. So move quick on the other markets and we’ll see you in the spring!”

More dates have been confirmed for OPETH‘s North American Heritage Tour 2013, featuring direct support from KATATONIA. The upcoming run will conquer over 30 cities this spring beginning April 18th in Buffalo, NY.

Commented Katatonia guitarist, Anders Nyström, “Back in the USA…That’s right Springsteen! We’re looking at round #2 as special guests to our brothers in Opeth on their last North American leg of the Heritage World Tour. This time we’ll mainly cover off-territories, so regardless if you caught or missed us last time, consider this a second chance to attend the dead ends of North America with one of the best bills there’ll ever be!”

The tour will make two special stops, the first in Worcester, Mass. on April 20th where Katatonia returns to play the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival, then in Clifton Park, NY on April 28th where acclaimed PORCUPINE TREE frontman STEVEN WILSON will join for the night. The first date has been announced for OPETH‘s upcoming North American Heritage Tour 2013, with special guests KATATONIA.

The tour will hit Flint, Michigan’s The Machine Shop on Friday, May 10th. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 11th at 10 AM at this location.

Frequent KATATONIA tourmates and longtime friends OPETH are scheduled to make a North American tour announcement shortly as well, leading to speculation that the two bands will once again be sharing the bill.

OPETH and KATATONIA were supposed to embark on a U.S. tour last fall, but the trek ended up being called off.

“Dead End Kings” was released on August 28, 2012 (one day earlier internationally) via Peaceville Records. Containing some of KATATONIA‘s most poignant and ambitious material to date, the CD sees the quintet conjure yet another milestone in audial angst and melancholy with this much-anticipated follow-up to 2009’s inspired and acclaimed “Night Is The New Day”.

“Dead End Kings”, which features a guest appearance by Norwegian singer Silje Wergeland (THE GATHERING), was recorded at Ghost Ward Studios and The City Of Glass, and was produced by KATATONIA‘s own Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse, and mixed by David Castillo, known for his prior work with KATATONIA, as well as OPETH and BLOODBATH. The album marks the recording debut of KATATONIA guitarist Per Eriksson and bassist Niklas Sandin. Additionally, KATATONIA was joined once again by Frank Default and his invaluable expertise on sampling and atmospherics. The cover artwork was created by KATATONIA‘s longtime visual collaborator Travis Smith.
