Finnish melodic death metal masters INSOMNIUM proudly present their new single “The Conjurer”. Follow THIS LINK to watch the video, which was once again created by renowned director Vesa Ranta.
“We haven’t been idle during the pandemic. The Conjurer is a tragic tale of jealous and searing love that opens this new chapter for Insomnium. Monumental composition by Markus Vanhala that reaches its peak in the soaring dual guitar solo. The wintry music video was shot in the dreamlike landscapes of northern Finland by director Vesa Ranta and his team. More shall follow...” Niilo Sevänen
After reaching pole position on official Finnish album charts and hitting German top 10 with the acclaimed album “Heart Like a Grave” in October 2019, INSOMNIUM were once again supposed to entertain the legions of metal addicts all around the world. And that’s what these gentlemen did for the time being: there was definitely no absence of severe headbanging… well, until mid-March 2020 when the good old world abruptly closed its curtains. As of today, when wintry Northern darkness seems to be slowly giving a way to blooming flowers, INSOMNIUM return with the brand-new track “The Conjurer”.
Due to the current pandemic, guitarist Ville Friman unfortunately wasn’t able to join the video shoot.
Starting today an exclusive “The Conjurer” shirt design and other new merchandise designs can be ordered HERE!

Finnish melodic death metal heavy hitters INSOMNIUM and OMNIUM GATHERUM, in cooperation with East Coast Events, AK Sound & Music Service, livevideo.fi and Framenoir, announce a very special and exclusive live streaming event, taking place on Friday, April 10th, 2020, at 18.00 CEST.
Like many other bands Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum were forced to cancel their ongoing North American tour from one day to another, which brought them into an unforeseen miserable situation.
Markus Vanhala comments on behalf of both bands: “If someone had asked me to do a livestream with ticket sales two weeks ago, my answer would’ve been ‘hell no’. But the world changes, apparently really fast, when you’re in quarantine. Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum double trouble North American tour went pretty bad with the cancellation and the country (=WORLD!) shutting down right after we arrived at the airport to New York City… So this is what we can offer back for now, before this tour can be rescheduled sometime next year, hopefully. After staring two weeks on the wall inside four walls at home quarantine, I have discovered a hellish urge to go back on stage and play. Even if it would be an empty hall and pose for the camera eyes only, but to play with my booyas as live in concert as we can at the moment!
With this stream production we try to help the cultural field, concert promoting, our own crew, local entertainment companies and a bit also, our poor ourselves, as cancellation of the gigs and tours destroyed our income. Thanks for the huge support to our beloved fans!”
Both bands will be playing live on April 10th, the viewer is going to be able to comment and react on the performance in real time. This offers the opportunity for the fans to react and interact during the show. During the change over the band members of both bands are available for a live chat as well.
The ticket sale has started and available on the same platform. The recording will be available for 48 hours after the live stream. (Ticket price is: 8,90€.)

For the fifth year in a row, The Alzheimer Association of Kanta-Hame’s (Finland) “Music Improves Brain Health” campaign is being held at International Brain Awareness Week (week 11). The purpose of the campaign is to reach out to different age groups and provide them with information about the health effects of music in the brain in a preventative and accessible style.
INSOMNIUM guitarist Markus Vanhala will represent the band in the campaign: –”My grandma – who passed away last year, so may her soul rest in peace – got a memory disease diagnosis at the end of her life and I watched her mind go during her last years. Grandma clearly began re-living the good old times, the late relatives and acquaintances made a comeback and lived with her and she talked about my father as if he was still a kid. So, some of the things she said were pretty wild. The weird thing was, of course, that she remembered me until the end even though I didn’t exist in her youth… Grandma seemed very happy during her last years and was clearly living in the good old days. It was very contradictory – one might even call it tragicomic. One’s own happiness is the most important thing, of course, in a way life is better that way than while being bedridden in some nursing home with a fully functional and active mind.”
The campaign highlights the importance of Music Testament in nursing, because it is extremely important to know the patient’s favorite music because it can be used in a positive and rehabilitative way in the patient’s daily life.
“High Hopes by Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite song and I hope it’ll be played in my funeral (having some high hopes, hehe.) So, that song and Type O’ Negative’s Love Me To Death, which me and my wife danced to in our wedding, will probably generate the biggest reactions in me forever even if my mind stops reacting to things otherwise. I must also mention the first song that struck me as a kid and determined the direction of my life, The Final Countdown by Europe. It will probably make me headbang even on my deathbed.” says Markus Vanhala.

With the second single Finnish melodic death metal masters INSOMNIUM are releasing the title track of their new masterpiece “Heart Like A Grave”, out October 4th, 2019 via Century Media Records. Watch the stunning video, filmed in the beautiful Finnish landscape of Koli national park, here:
The video was shot again by Vesa Ranta and Aapo Lahtela at Kaira Films, who filmed two videos in the same session with the band in the beginning of summer. You can watch the first video to the previously released single “Valediction” here:
INSOMNIUM comment:
”Heart Like a Grave is the title track of our 8th album, woven of sorrow and longing. It is looking back towards the golden days of youth, when things seemed brighter, and there was still hope of better days. A theme so predominant in the Finnish lyrics throughout the ages.
The music video was shot at the epic locations of Koli national park near our hometown Joensuu with directors Vesa Ranta and Aapo Lahtela and Kaira Films team. It continues the same story that began in Valediction video, so these two are bound together.”
