Rich Davenport’s Rock Show this week features exclusive interviews with Scorpions vocalist Klaus Meine and Angelica Rylin (The Murder Of My Sweet), and is available now for streaming at this link .
The first hour of the show features a Scorpions special in which the band’s vocalist Klaus Meine talks extensively about their new “MTV Unplugged In Athens” CD, DVD and Blu Ray. Klaus selects 8 tracks from the album, and gives an in-depth insight into how the band put the 24 song set list together for the show, covering material from every era of their career, along with 5 new compositions. Klaus also talks about the band’s longevity, and their desire to play in the UK one last time before their farewell tour concludes.
In part 2, Angelica Rylin (The Murder Of My Sweet) talks about her debut solo release “Thrive”, which sees her fulfilling her childhood dream of making a Melodic Rock album, inspired by some of her favourite vocalists, including Robin Beck, Ann Wilson of Heart, Leigh Matty (Romeo’s Daughter). Angelica discusses the songwriting process for the album, which featured contributions from Melodic Rock luminaries such as Harry Hess, Daniel Flores, Robert Sall, Alessandro Del Vecchio and Anders Wigelius, and chooses 2 tracks.
Plus classic tracks and killer new cuts from AC/DC, Absolva, Y&T, Anthrax, Betzefer, The Ramones, Boston, Thin Lizzy and REO Speedwagon.

On September 11, September 12 and September 14, German hard rock legends SCORPIONS will play three concerts in Athens, Greece under the banner “MTV Unplugged – Scorpions Live In Athens” at the Lycabettus Theatre over the roofs of the ancient city. For the first time in the history of the “MTV Unplugged” series, a concert in Greece under the open sky will take place.
The SCORPIONS will perform their biggest hits, album classics as well as some exclusive new songs in the typical sound and arrangement of “MTV Unplugged”. They will be supported by national and international surprise guests, to be announced at a later date.
Says the band: “‘MTV Unplugged’ was already top on our wish list and therefore we have gladly accepted the offer to stage these concerts as part of our farewell tour. We are [happy to be working] together with MTV on this very special event in Athens.”
“MTV Unplugged – Scorpions Live In Athens” will be released at the end of 2013 on CD, DVD and Blu-ray disc. In addition, the performance will be premiered on MTV and VIVA in Germany.
SCORPIONS spent the first three months of 2012 in the studio with producers Mikael “Nord” Andersson and Martin Hansen resurrecting a dozen unfinished songs from what some people believe was the band’s best and most creative period — leftovers from the albums “Blackout” (1982), “Love At First Sting” (1984), “Savage Amusement” (1988) and “Crazy World” (1990) — for an album that is tentatively scheduled for release later this year. “It will be material that was never finished; songs with pure SCORPIONS DNA from a very exciting time,” singer Klaus Meine confirmed to Classic Rock. “Once we close the book on the crazy touring schedule, that’s something we’ll pick up again.” An album of all-new SCORPIONS material may surface as well, according to Meine. “At this point nothing is out of the question,” he said. “When we said adios with ‘Sting In The Tail’, our label, Sony Music, cried, ‘No, no, no… What about this idea? What about that idea?’ There are some offers you just can’t refuse. I don’t want to say too much right now, but I can reassure you there is still life in those bloody old SCORPIONS.”
SCORPIONS singer Klaus Meine, who celebrated his 65th birthday on May 25, has posted the following message on the band’s Facebook page:
“Thank you so much for all your wonderful birthday mails, messages, presents and videos that reached me from all over the world. It really touched my heart in a big way. I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to each and every one of you for your love and support over so many years.
“We are in the studio right now, but it won’t be long before we hit the road again. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you some where out there. Rock on.”

He added: “We’ll just have to see what’s realistic. We’re working on a documentary movie about the band’s history. We filmed the tour’s big finale in Munich, which was very emotional.”
Three years after announcing they were winding down their career, German hard rock veterans SCORPIONS appear to have changed their minds.
In an interview in the new issue of Classic Rock magazine, the band’s lead singer, Klaus Meine, explained: “As the emotion built, it [not retiring] became a gradual decision. It’s one thing to say, ‘This is going to be the end of the SCORPIONS,’ and another to do it. Our ‘Sting In The Tail’ album [2010] was such a success that a whole new generation of fans joined the party. It was amazing. And you know that with all the best parties, it’s sometimes hard to find the door?”

Jeb Wright at Classic Rock Revisited recently caught up with SCORPIONS frontman.Klaus Meine. An excerpt from the interview is available below:
Jeb: As the farewell tour goes on are you starting to get emotional that the end is near?
Klaus: “It is a weird thing to think about after forty years with this band. We are family. On the other side, we are a band that after forty years has survived punk and grunge. Classic rock music seems to be very popular with the new generation. Right now, we can put all of our energy into our concerts. We are going to be doing the biggest heavy metal festival in the world called Wacken. People come from all over the world to see this show. We are really happening right now and we feel the energy. Our fans around the world will keep this energy going until the very end. They will keep it going until our rocking hurricane is downgraded to a tropical storm.”
Jeb: On the Blu-Ray, during the song ‘Still Loving You’ the camera pans the audience and every person in the crowd knows every word to your song. That is amazing.
Klaus: “I don’t need to sing at all anymore as the audience sings all the words to all the songs. It is quite something. We have a whole new audience which makes a nice mix with those fans who have been with the band for thirty or forty years. There are young fans standing right in front of the stage going totally nuts to ‘Blackout’, ‘No One Like You’ and ‘The Zoo’ and other songs that were written way before they were even born.
It is wonderful to have those classics like ‘Still Loving You’ and no matter where we play the fans react the same way and sing along. Scorpions fans make every show a lot of fun and it feels great. We can play Russia or New York City or somewhere in the jungle and the fans sing all of the words to the songs. It is a wonderful, wonderful feeling.
Jeb: I’ve got a bone to pick with you. I thought Sting In The Tail was supposed to be the last album by the Scorpions. I am holding in my hands the new album Comeblack.
Klaus: “It was. We announced the album Sting in the Tail in conjunction with this tour that will take us all over the world and it became such a huge success that Sony said, ‘Okay, we want to support this with some product.’ What can you do? We just announced our last album and then things are so huge that they want us to get back in the studio. We decided that if we were going to do that then we would just go in and have some fun. We decided to re-record some of our classics like ‘The Zoo’ and ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane.’ The idea was for us to blow off the dust from those vinyl records and to present them to a whole new audience in the sound of the 21st century. It was a lot of fun because you can do so much more today in the studio. At the same time, we thought that this can’t be enough as we didn’t want to put out a new album without some new songs on it. We thought about recording some covers and paying tribute to some of the legendary bands who inspired us in the ‘60’s. We had a lot of fun trying things out and seeing what worked and what didn’t work. We really were enjoying playing music from all of our heroes like THE BEATLES and the ROLLING STONES. We did songs like ‘Tainted Love’ which is a song that many people might not expect to hear us do but the riff worked well. We gave it a try and it worked. We did ‘Children Of The Revolution’ by T. REX, which was outside of us in a lot of ways. They are all great bands.
