Following the recent signing of PRONG’s Tommy Victor (details here), Schecter Guitar Research has announce two more pivotal players in the metal arena with new Schecter Signature Series guitars to be released: Kenny Hickey (SEVENTH VOID, TYPE O NEGATIVE, DANZIG) and Marco “Maus” Biazzi (LACUNA COIL).
Kenny Hickey’s well defined baritone sound was the heart of Type O Negative, Gothic-metal homages to man’s darkest corners, while the bite of his tone found with Seventh Void and his touring stints with Danzig proved that regardless of the set-up, his tone was an organic extension. His Schecter Kenny Hickey Signature C-1 EX will allow players to harness the tools of his sound and maybe even conjure some “green light” spirits up.
Lacuna Coil’s Marco “Maus” Biazzi, like Kenny Hickey, explores a darker sound but harnesses the sweep of European-style metal familiar to his Italian heritage. His intricate playing, weaving between the throbbing melodies and Christina Scabbia’s vocals, landed the band on a much larger stage with the success of Comalies in 2004. With the recent release Dark Adrenaline, Maus continues to paint sonic melodies while wielding off flourishing leads. The Schecter Maus Signature C-7 model will help further establish his reputation in and out of the metal world.
The Schecter Kenny Hickey Signature C-1 EX, Tommy Victor Signature and The Schecter Maus Signature C-7 models are all being showcased at the musical instrument industry’s biggest event – the winter NAMM Conference -Schecter Booth – Room 210-D in Anaheim, CA, January 24-27, 2013. According to Italy’s Soundsblog.it, CAYNE/ex-LACUNA COIL guitarist Claudio Leo died this morning after struggling with an undisclosed “serious disease.” The exact cause of death has not yet been revealed.
A message at Cayne‘s Facebook page simply states: “Goodbye Claudio. Rest in peace, brother.”
LACUNA COIL vocalist Cristina Scabbia said in an online posting: “It’s with deep sadness that I inform you all that our dear friend and ex-guitar player Claudio Leo left us. My deepest condolences to his family, close friends and the band CAYNE. You will always be remembered for your strength and positivity. We love you, Claudio.”
Claudio played with LACUNA COIL from 1994 to 1998 and appeared on the band’s demo tape when they were still called ETHEREAL and the 1998 self-titled EP.
Leo was a founding member of gothic rock act CAYNE, which will release its self-titled sophomore album on February 14.

Each member of COAL CHAMBER had words to share about the announcement.
“I’m STOKED to be bringing COAL CHAMBER back to the United States,” exclaims vocalist Dez Fafara. “These shows are going to fucking rule! The lineup is perfect! Hope to see you all there!”
“The past has fuelled the fire to bring COAL CHAMBER back stronger than ever,” adds drummer Mike Cox. “I couldn’t be more excited to tour the states on an amazing tour. HERE WE GO!”
“I’m really excited and grateful to be a part of such an awesome bill! We will be slaying it across America and the world,” adds guitarist Meegs Rascón.
Bassist Chela Rhea Harper states, “America is where COAL CHAMBER started; where the music first came to life. The entire experience in Australia and South America has been so surreal up until this point, and to be able to continue this adventure on the band’s home soil is an honor. The support from all has been tremendous.”
Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 18.
SEVENDUST engaged in a well-publicized feud with COAL CHAMBER in 2003 and even dedicated its single “Enemy” to COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Farara. SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose told Tacoma, Washington’s The News Tribune at the time about the war of words: “It’s been pretty humorous, actually, because, to be honest, [Dez is] not really someone who’s important to society. So it’s not like I’m talking about anyone that many people really know about.” He continued: “COAL CHAMBER was a really popular band. Now they’re not a band anymore, and my [then-]wife [bassist Rayna Foss] was probably the most popular member. The irony of this whole thing was I didn’t want to give him any press. … It was laid out on a press release that I kind of got tricked into. I wanted it to be a more universal song. A lot of people have people they don’t like, that treat people that they care about with no respect. [My wife is] the reason I was mad at him in the first place. He treated her awful, while she was pregnant with my daughter inside of her. He was completely stressing her out and making her upset.”
SEVENDUST‘s ninth album, “Black Out The Sun”, will be released on March 26 via the band’s 7Bros. Records label (through Warner Music Group‘s Independent Label Group). The CD was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti. Songtitles set to appear on the 12-track CD, which was produced by the bandmembers themselves, include “Decay”, “Mountain” and “Murder Bar”. The latter was reportedly inspired by a Butler, New Jersey bar across from the hotel where SEVENDUST was staying while recording the new CD. Rumor had it the place was popular with many of New Jersey’s murderers.
COAL CHAMBER played its first reunion dates in February/March 2012 as part of Australia’s Soundwave Festival.
In a 2011 interview with Australia’s Loud magazine, COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara stated about how the band’s reunion came about, “In ’05, Meegs [Miguel Rascón, guitar] started coming around. He apologized to my wife for the way things went down with COAL CHAMBER, because when COAL CHAMBER split up I had to move my family into a one-bedroom apartment and start all over. So when he apologized to my wife, I thought, ‘Well, OK, he’s got a big heart inside him. And he’s clean off the hard drugs now, let’s see if this goes awhile.’ So let’s fast forward a few years to ’09, he and Mikey [Mike Cox, drums] were still clean off hard drugs, Meegs came out and did ‘Loco’ onstage with DEVILDRIVER. After that he gave me a hug onstage and in my ear he said, ‘Let’s do this again.'”
