According to Eddie Trunk via his Twitter page, the legendary MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister has passed away. Lemmy just turned 70 years old on 24th December.

The first statement by Eddie said – “Sorry to report that I have confirmed Lemmy @myMotorhead has passed away just now at the age of 70. RIP to a true original icon of rock.”

Then another was posted fifteen minutes later stating “There will be a release from @myMotorhead management tomorrow if not sooner on Lemmy’s passing. They will reveal details they want to then“.

The official MOTÖRHEAD Facebook page has just stated:

“There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.

Tributes are already pouring in for Lemmy. Ozzy Osbourne said “Lost one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He will be sadly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. I will see you on the other side.”

MOTÖRHEAD‘s Lemmy Kilmister recently spoke with Aspekte regarding the Paris terror attacks amongst other topics. Lemmy stated:

“These people are so dumb, what for? Do they think it’s gonna be a heroic thing, to kill innocent people? Assholes, cowards. We played the Bataclan many times, it was a regular show for us in Paris.”

When asked if what happened changed anything for Lemmy, he said,

“I would’ve gone on the day after, if they stop you they win. They’re not gonna beat me, I do what I’m supposed to do. Fuck those people – they don’t like rock ‘n’ roll and I don’t like them.”

According to Glidemagazine.com, MOTÖRHEAD was forced to cut short, last night, their show in Austin, Texas, due to continued health issues by the band’s frontman, Lemmy Kilmister.

MOTÖRHEAD are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, but so far things have not been going so well on their North American tour. At a show in Salt Lake City this past Thursday, as previously reported frontman Lemmy Kilmister walked off stage just a few songs in, blaming his feelings of “sickness” on the altitude. The hard living rocker subsequently cancelled the band’s gig at Riot Fest in Denver over the weekend, saying, ”The Rocky Mountain High has affected Lemmy like the high altitude of Salt Lake City,” and also adding that Lemmy “looks forward to the next-up Texas shows… at low elevations.” The first one of those shows was in Austin, which, after being moved from the spacious suburban Cedar Park Center to the much smaller Emo’s at last minute (perhaps due to lack of ticket sales), proved not to be a cure for Lemmy’s “altitude sickness”.

Following a positively crushing set from the glorious legends of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon, Lemmy emerged onstage looking fatigued and winded. Though a little slow on the bass, Lemmy was clearly trying hard to make it through set opener “Damage Case”, but something felt off. “Stay Clean” and “We Are Motörhead” also felt lackluster despite the energy of his band. After announcing the next song – “Metropolis” – Lemmy let out a sigh and announced, “I can’t do it”, before leaving the stage with the rest of his band. He returned moments later and apologized to a disappointed but supportive Austin crowd, which was followed by the house lights and music coming on, and concerned (slightly annoyed) fans funneling out.

Approaching 70, it’s hard to say if Lemmy is just a bit under the weather or if his age and years of hard living are taking a toll on him for this tour. According to the band’s schedule on their website, there are close to 50 more tour dates running into 2016, however, based on Lemmy’s physical and vocal appearance in both Salt Lake City and Austin, it will be surprising if even a handful of those are still pulled off. Here’s to wishing Lemmy a speedy recovery.

Sad and troubling news has broken his morning as MOTORHEAD have been forced to cancel their European tour, originally rescheduled from last year.

“It is with great regret that Motörhead has to announce the cancellation of their European tour, scheduled to start February, 2014,” reads a statement from the Motörhead camp. “Many concerted, diligent and focused efforts were made by founding member, and international icon, Lemmy Kilmister to deal with a range of health issues relating to diabetes. While there has been undoubted progress, Lemmy and the band were advised by doctors that it was still too soon to resume full touring activities, and so for the good of the future, the band and Lemmy reluctantly agreed to cancel.

No-one is hurting more over this than Lemmy, and he feels the aggravation and inconvenience of every ticket, and every method of transportation, already paid for by loyal fans in anticipation of the tour. Being a road warrior of over 50 dedicated, non-stop years, it is equally distressing for him to be unable to occupy the top lounge of the trusty tour bus (his spiritual home) but Lemmy recognises that his long-term health must win. It goes without saying that Lemmy profusely apologises for inconveniences caused, but he does want everyone to know that he is continuing on the road to a full recovery, and that the prognosis long-term is very good.”

Needless to say, while we’re gutted that we won’t be getting to see Lemmy and the boys on tour in the immediate future, the man’s health is what’s important here, so here’s hoping he really is back on the mend and that we’ll eventually see him back where he belongs – on a stage.

Lemmy’s health worries first flared up last summer, when Motörhead were forced to cancel some shows after Lemmy was taken ill suffering a haematoma. The band returned to the stage at Wacken 2013, but were forced to cut short their set.
