“Through The Ashes Of Empires” (2003), the fifth album by the San Francisco Bay Area metal band MACHINE HEAD, was certified silver by the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) on December 9, 2011 for sales in excess of 60,000 copies in the United Kingdom.
MACHINE HEAD‘s new album, “Unto The Locust”, sold more than 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart — putting MACHINE HEAD in the Top 25 for the first time in the band’s 17-year history. Even more impressively, this is the third consecutive album to show at least a 20 percent increase in sales over its predecessor, a virtually unprecedented feat for any band or artist, let alone a metal band in 2011. Add to that the fact that MACHINE HEAD‘s last CD came out four and a half years ago, a period of time that has seen the music market drop by more than 45 percent, and you’re looking at something amazing.
MACHINE HEAD has consistently averaged more than 100,000 copies sold in the U.S. for each of its seven albums and has shifted double that overseas (accruing several silver records in the U.K.), resulting in cumulative worldwide sales of more than 2.4 million.

HELLFEST announce that BLACK SABBATH, LYNYRD SKYNYRD and MACHINE HEAD will play their gigs at HELLFEST Open Air Festival 2012, to be held in Clisson, France on June 15th – 17th.
The bands have confirmed for the festival:
A Slovakian MACHINE HEAD fan by the name of Peter, who made headlines back in February 2010 after being invited by the members of the band on stage to perform the song “Aesthetics Of Hate” with them in Vienna, Austria, got a chance to repeat the experience this past Saturday, November 5 in Tampere, Finland. Fan-filmed video footage of his second onstage jam with MACHINE HEAD can be seen below.
A year and a half ago, MACHINE HEAD fan site TakeMyScars.com asked the band’s frontman Robb Flynn for his comment on the group’s initial encounter with Peter.
Stated Flynn: “About one song before ‘Aesthetics’, I noticed a kid upfront with a banner which said, ‘Let me play ‘Aesthetics Of Hate’ On Guitar, Robb. I’m Fucking Serious!!’ We both made eye contact, and both laughed it off. So when ‘Aesthetics’ came up in the set, him and a bunch of his friends start screaming, ‘Please.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, you better not be fucking around,’ he’s like, ‘I can do it.’ So I told security to bring him up. His name was Peter.
“He did fucking killer!! Knew all my parts [on guitar]. I had to slow him down in the beginning a little; he was playing it a hundred miles an hour. But once the band kicked in, he got it.
“It was really, really cool. Super-fun. It was an incredible moment in an even more incredible show.
“We brought him and his buddies back after the show to say, ‘Hey,’ and I asked how far the crowd surfed him after he stage-dived back into the audience. He said all the way to the bar, where three people bought him beers, and he proceeded to cry.
“Amazing stuff!”

The track, which was originally featured on the “God Of War: Blood & Metal” digital EP, will see its first and only physical incarnation with this special release. Side B of the seven-inch is etched with the band’s logo and jacket artwork was created by longtime OPETH collaborator Travis Smith, with direction from Mikael Åkerfeldt.

Exclusive for Record Store Day 2011, MACHINE HEAD will release 10-inch vinyl, aptly titled “The Black Procession”. The set includes three previously unreleased live tracks that were recorded along 2010’s Black Procession Tour, in support of the band’s last studio effort, “The Blackening”.
