December 3, 2021 will see Gothenburg metal powerhouse MANIMAL release their forthcoming studio album, Armageddon, via AFM Records. Today they have shared a blistering lyric video for their new single “Chains Of Fury”, which perfectly emphazises the band’s trademark sound of pure steel!

MANIMAL‘s loyalty to traditional heavy metal influences is evident, though their latest and much acclaimed 2018- album Purgatorio was a prime example of modern and trend-setting power metal characterised by musical enthusiasm, exceptional talent and new ideas. As expected of a band that claims Judas Priest, King Diamond and Queensrÿche as major influences on their sound since Day 1, MANIMAL’s upcoming album is a high energy, in-your-face salute to the music that inspired them over the past 20 years.

After previously- released singles “Forged In Metal”, “The Inevitable End”, the epic album title track and just recently, the thunderous album opener “Burn In Hell”, today MANIMAL have unleashed another killer track taken from Armageddon! 

“I think this one stands out a bit from the rest of the songs on the album.” Vocalist Samuel Nyman comments. “It has this grinding, almost hypnotizing groove and it’s probably one of the heaviest tracks we’ve ever released. And the message it brings is clear – break loose from your chains of fury!

Once again we’ve been working with the much talented Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art to visualize the song and I think he has really managed to capture the very core of the song this time as well.”

It was our label that put Manimal into the power metal category with our first album, and we understand that completely because they had to put us in a genre to guide people. Power metal for me are bands like Helloween, Gamma Ray and Stratovarius; they have more up-tempo songs, more vocal harmonies. Sure, Manimal does have power metal elements but we’re not pure power metal. There is more to us than that and I think the new album is perfect example of that.”

”I’m really proud we’ve managed to create yet another great album together.” Stenroos adds. “And it’s been a team effort. All four of us have put so much soul and effort into everything from song writing to recording, with the result of a really heavy and all through awesome sounding album without any fillers what so ever. Armageddon was produced by the band and was mixed by MANIMAL bassist Kenny Boufadene at his Studio Meltdown in Sweden. As with their three previous records, the quartet worked together fleshing the songs into their final form. “The vocals harmonies Henrik gives me are played with the guitar,” says Nyman, offering up one example of their creative process for Armageddon, which was mixed by MANIMAL bassist Kenny Boufadene at his Studio Meltdown in Sweden. “We have been making music together for so many years now that I can almost hear by the way he’s playing how he wants me to deliver the vocals. It’s not very often that we disagree in the songwriting process.”

To shorten your wait for the album release later this year, MANIMAL have just unleashed a first sneak peak with the blistering single “Forged In Metal“! “The whole idea was to write a straightforward metal hymn with an irresistible “fist in the air” chorus”, says songwriter and guitarist Henrik Stenroos. Vocalist Samuel Nyman adds:
“We wanted to create a video with an orgy in metal clichés since the song is a pure celebration to the genre. Fire, skulls and chains. That’s what it all boils down to.”

It seems MANIMALS’s goals have always been to write songs that they love and believe in. “The challenge is to make a song with strong hooks without being too predictable. It`s just a bonus when we realize that people around the world seem to have the same good taste in music that we have,” frontman Samuel Nyman once said.

Inspired by Rob Halford, Geoff Tate or Michael Kiske among others, Nyman‘s voice oozes aplomb and pure passion, blending perfectly with the intelligent songwriting, courtesy of guitarist Henrik Stenroos, a true riff icon whose hooks and licks provide the foundation for MANIMAL’s songs. Equally important for the group’s typical flair are drummer André Holmqvist and bassist Kenny Boufadene. Holmqvist has a tight, powerful drum style that comes surprisingly close to paragons such as Tommy Lee and Mike Portnoy while Boufadene is also in charge of mixing MANIMAL’s new album and produces his band’s videos at his Studio Meltdown in Sweden.

Blessed with such diverse talents and like all of their previous albums, MANIMAL once again produced the upcoming record themselves. “Mainly because we like to have full control of the production. We’re control freaks to the bone and the thought of putting our creations into the hands of an external producer simply scares us,” Nyman confessed earlier.
