According to a press release, “Mare” “opens a new chapter in the Norwegian band’s history, while delivering a true monument to black metal. Frontman Dolk and the rest of the band have achieved the difficult task of giving their sound new impulses without losing their unique style. Isolated keyboard passages and sprechgesang consort with icy riffs, dark melodies, and oppressive drums. Dolk’s raw vocals continue to set the pace, while giving songs like ‘Bergtatt’, ‘Volvevers’ and the title track such intensity that they are left with no other choice but to crawl under the skin of even the most discerning black and pagan metal fans. The album was produced by none other than Peter Tägtgren (Abyss Studio), who provided the songs with a piercing and very powerful sound. ‘Mare’ is the pagan black metal masters’ best work to date and is sure to become the genre’s next cult classic.”

Norway’s raw Pagan Folklore Metal band Kampfar has revealed the title of their 9th album, “Mare”, it’s to be unleashed via Napalm Records the 25th of march 2011.
Kampfar press release issues:
“Refusing to follow in the footsteps of others before or after them, the band delivered an album that sounds, looks, and feels like the very essence of KAMPFAR music inspired by Nordic natural beauty, folklore and myths. It is dark, cold, menacing, and yet alluring in a unique way. These Norwegians belong to the forerunners of the genre, though they cannot be compared to any one specific band. KAMPFAR does not place the most importance on speed, as do others, but rather on expression and content. KAMPFAR is a self-contained mix of raw black metal and pagan metal embossed with traditional folkloric influences. KAMPFAR’s music is and remains Norse pagan folklore metal, and proves that compromises are unnecessary in creating greatness.”
