Morten Veland (SIRENIA, MORTEMIA and founder of TRISTANIA)  released the tenth Mortemia  song from ‘The  Cover Collab Sessions’. A collection of cover songs featuring different guest singers for each song. This single is a rendition of California Dreamin’ originally recorded by The Mamas and the Papas, featuring Helle Bohdanova, Caterina Nix & Karmen Klinc on guest vocals. The song is available on all digital platforms as of today the 10th of July 2026.

I have also followed the careers of Karmen and Helle for some time now, both amazing singers that I am very happy to be working with for ‘The Cover Collab Sessions’. Together with my three phenominal guests we have created a really cool metal version of this iconic song. I feel truly privileged and thankful to have Helle, Caterina and Karmen on board this project and we can’t wait to share this song with all of you. Helle Bohdanova:

“In my mind, California Dreamin’ is one of those songs that seems to have existed forever — a symbol of easy-going, carefree escape. When Morten said, ‘I always found the original to be a very melancholic tune,’ I began seeing this classic in a completely different light. I’m glad it found a new dimension through this metal version. I’ve always been drawn to the magic of voices blending together — it creates something no single voice can achieve alone. I’m deeply grateful to Morten for bringing me into this collaboration and placing me alongside the stunning voices of Cati and Carmen. Caterina Nix:

Morten’s vision of reimagining a classic like ‘California Dreamin’ is no small feat. I’m incredibly grateful to have collaborated as a vocalist on this track and to help breathe new life into such an iconic masterpiece. The melancholy and sense of longing of the original remain, but with a modern and heavier approach. Our voices blend together so well, yet our individual selves still shine through. Working on this version of ‘California Dreamin’ was a complete and immersive experience, from recording the vocals to filming the video, every step of the process reminded me why this song has connected with so many people through the years. It was a pleasure working with Morten, Helle and Karmen and I’m proud to have contributed to a song that continues to inspire listeners across generations. I’m very proud to be part of this journey and excited to finally share it with the world!

During the early stages of the Covid 19 pandemic Norwegian multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist Morten Veland decided to activate his solo project Mortemia , this time with a brand new concept consisting of collaborations with multiple guest singers. ‘The Pandemic Pandemonium Sessions’ was a series of singles released on a monthly basis, each song featuring a well known and highly profiled guest singer from the metal scene. Following next was ‘The Covid Aftermath Sessions’, yet another album featuring 12 songs with 12 different guest singers. Now Mortemia is ready to endeavor on his third album in the collaboration format entitled ‘The Cover Collab Sessions’, once more the project will feature multiple amazing guest singers. This will be, as the title suggests an album consisting of cover songs solely. All re-arranged and performed in Mortemia’s signature style.

“I’m proud and honoured to welcome back my friend and collaborator Marcela Bovio as my special guest for ‘The Cover Collab Sessions’. The song of choice this time is the timeless classic ‘Take on me’ by my fellow Norwegians of the band a-Ha. I still remember very well when this song was released back in 1985 although I was just 7 years of age at the time, it was something very different that I had never heard before. The band also grew to be the biggest success ever to come out of Norway, and the band is just as huge today. I wanted to make a tribute to a-Ha for a long time, but I could not decide on which song, as there are so many great songs to choose from, but I eventually ended up making a rendition of their greatest hit ‘Take on me’. After discovering how well the iconic synth riff transcended to the 7-string guitar my choice was basically made”.

Marcela Bovio:

“When Morten asked me to do another collaboration together I was immediately intrigued, as I loved how our first Mortemia collab ‘Death Turns a Blind Eye’ turned out! Then he told me he wanted to make a heavy version of ‘Take On Me’, and I got super excited. I love this song so much, I’ve even recorded my own acoustic version before so I know every note and nuance of it. But THIS version? Morten completely reimagined it in the most powerful way, and I absolutely love what he’s done with it. The chorus was the biggest vocal challenge I’ve faced in a long time: honestly the widest vocal range I’ve ever had to cover in a single chorus! My voice was pushed to its absolute limits, and I am 100% here for it. I hope you love it as much as we do” !

Diva Satánica:

“When Morten asked me to do this collab I immediately accepted! It’s an hymn that we all sang at some point of our lives, it has that rebel vibe that connects me also with the metal scene: the feeling of freedom, staying true to yourself and living on the edge. This song reminds me a lot of my teenage-hood and being fearless, and that’s something that we usually lose on our way to adulthood. Sharing the vocal duties with 2 amazing singers like Grace and Rehn was also an absolute honor. I feel very lucky to be part of this cover collabs session and to be able to add my little touch to Mortemia’s legacy.”

Grace Darkling:

“I’ve been a fan of Sirenia and Tristania since I was 16, so collaborating with Morten is a dream come true! Singing on a hip-hop song like Gangsta’s Paradise was so much fun and a really interesting twist. I absolutely love the metal version we created, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Rehn Stillnight:

I’ve been a huge fan of symphonic metal since I was very young, so of course I’ve always loved Sirenia and Tristania as well. It’s a real pleasure for me to be doing this collaboration with Morten, and it’s been kinda funny to record a rap song in a metal version with two other amazing singers! I’m so thrilled to share our work with you. Can’t wait!
