The undisputed inventor of dungeon synth, MORTIIS, has revealed the cover artwork for his forthcoming album “Spirit Of Rebellion”. The album artwork was created by French visual artist & fantasy illustrator David Thiérrée who is also known for his work with Behemoth, Primordial, Wolves In The Throne Room.
“Spirit Of Rebellion” – a re-interpreted 2 track long expansion and continuation of the 1994 Era I classic “Ånden som Gjorde Opprør” – is penned for release on 24th January 2020 via Omnipresence Production / Dead Seed Productions.
The godfather of dungeon synth comments:
“I had to fend off a lot of demons to get to this point. They’ll be back, they always come back, but at least my vision is no longer clouded…When I was working on re-interpreting my old music for the Cold Meat Industry festival in Stockholm almost two years ago, I had no idea that I´d eventually create an (almost) new record, nor that a section of it would be used for my first Dungeon Synth video since 1996. But here we are.”
Check out the recently released video clip for “Visions of an Ancient Future” which gives a first taste of things to come for the re-interpreted music of ”Spirit Of Rebellion”:
“Spirit Of Rebellion” will be released in CD, Vinyl and digital format. Pre-orders are available now.

The latest single from MORTIIS“The Great Corrupter” album comes courtesy of the Japanese dark ambient-noise artist MERZBOW, who twists “Bleed Like You” into a completely new form. Stream it below.
“This is not a remix – it´s abuse,” said Mortiis. “The good kind. If you prefer your music traditional, and your audio all pleasant and polished, you should consider walking away now. It is Merzbow mutilating Mortiis. I never really thought that that was going happen, and I don´t think anyone else did either!”
Much like his own original recordings, MERZBOW’s interpretation of “Bleed Like You” is an instrumental attack on the senses. In addition to a lengthy list of recordings, the highly-respected, prolific artist is also a respected writer who has dabbled in various other art mediums.
“We’ve been trying to think a bit different art-wise for the last few singles,” said Mortiis. “I thought the time was right to try art directions that were not typical of Mortiis to take. The Merzbow remix single art is another idea I’ve had for a long time. As usual, it’s morphed from the original idea, into a different beast almost entirely, in time. But what else is new?”
MORTIIS’ “The Great Corrupter”, due for release on April 21, is a collection of tracks from The Great Deceiver album, deconstructed and masterfully “corrupted.” Other artists tapped for remixes include Chris Vrenna, Rhys Fulber, Die Krupps, John Fryer, GODFLESH, Apoptygma Berzerk, In Slaughter Natives, Raison D´Etre, Je$us Loves Amerika, PIG, and many more. The record will also contain unreleased material from the original recording sessions.
Each of the record’s formats will be as its own art package with collectible artwork, including limited edition colored vinyl and a limited edition DVD sized double-CD Digipak with additional exclusive remixes and many other extras.
Hot on the heels of last year’s well-received comeback album ‘The Great Deceiver’, MORTIIS are set release a double remix album entitled “The Great Corrupter”on 21st April via Omnipresence Records.
“The Great Corrupter” contains tracks from the previous album, deconstructed and masterfully “corrupted” by household names like GODFLESH, Die Krupps, Merzbow, John Fryer, Apoptygma Berzerk, In Slaughter Natives, Raison D´Etre, PIG, and many more.
“The tracks on this album are very broad, they range from retro sounding, heavy industrial to very deep ambient type music to electronic/industrial club type stuff” says Mortiis.
“The Great Corruptor” will be available in digital format, on CD and vinyl, each with its own unique, collectible packaging.
Ahead of the release of the forthcoming remix album in late April, the band will be embarking on a 9 date strong UK co-headline run this March with PIG aka industrial pioneer Raymond Watts. The tour kicks off at Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms on 10th March and finishes at London’s legendary Garage venue on 18th March.
Mortiis comments: “We always have a great time in the UK, so being able to go out on tour there again, and with old heroes PIG no less, makes it even more exciting! What makes this tour even more special, to me personally anyway, is the fact that we just remixed each other. PIG are on our upcoming remix album ‘The Great Corrupter’ so it´s a double whammy!”
