In anticipation of Norwegian alternative industrial metallers MORTIIS’ upcoming album “The Great Deceiver”, the band is offering a free download of the single ‘The Shining Lamp of God’. Visit this location to get your download.
Similar to late last year’s free download of ‘Doppleganger,’ ‘The Shining Lamp of God’ download will come complete with a remix by MELT, the track’s recently release music video, artwork, screensavers and other bonus graphics.
“We know fans have been waiting a long time for The Great Deceiver, so this is our way of giving them a little extra gift, as well as wetting their appetites for the full album,” Mortiis said.
Fans have the option to donate if they wish, with funds going to offset the costs of recording and releasing “The Great Deceiver”.
“We are digging deep into our own shallow pockets to finance everything ourselves this time around,” Mortiis said. “So, it’s certainly not required, but donations are always appreciated!”

MORTIIS has unveiled the video for “Doppelganger”, the first single from the long-awaited upcoming “The Great Deceiver” album. Check it out below.
The “Doppelganger” single will also be available as a free download at http://www.mortiis.com beginning Monday, October 5. The download also includes a :wumpscut: remix, the downloadable video, a screensaver and other graphics.
“As a song, ‘Doppelganger’ not so much investigates or peeks into a conflicted psyche, as it just rips it open and exposes someone for being a two faced piece of shit,” Mortiis said. “I absolutely see myself as that. Sometimes. Other times I try to be a good person. I often fail. Perhaps I treat myself harshly. But it´s there now, in my face, and I don´t disagree with what the song is saying.”
The video, directed by Robyn Van Swank with Nick Plotquin, brings the track to life with horrific images of bloodletting, mutilation and torture.
“I thought there was a rough sort of irony in it all with the physical and psychological mutilation,” Mortiis said. “The knife imitates the words…the truth bleeds out…”
The video for “Doppelganger” is also Mortiis’ reaction to years of being artistically held back by record companies that shied away from the graphic content that visually sums up Mortiis’ music. “I always thought that was ridiculous,” he said. “We wanted to make videos that people would notice, that would cause a reaction, something they wouldn´t forget as soon as the next video came on. I always thought that if our music or imagery pissed someone off, or made them want to puke in their mouths that would be a way better reaction than indifference.”
Mortiis had previously discussed making a video that would be one straight seen of self-mutilation but always knew the powers that be would put the kibosh on it. When he connected with Von Swank to discuss filming “Doppelganger,” self-mutilation was naturally the first topic.
“We wanted to original idea to be so messed up that no one who saw it would ever forget it,” said Mortiis. “Perhaps not the deepest or most artistic visual experience, but it would turn some heads. Ever since that time, I swore I would one day control how my music was used. Maybe nobody would ever want to see it, let alone air it, but at least I´d be in control. I never got into this game to get rich anyway.”
Mortiis will return Stateside this month for a month-long warm up tour in preparation for the release of The Great Deceiver.

“Vardøger”, the short film set to Mortiis’ “Geisteskrank”, has been made available as a free download and can be downloaded via www.mortiis.com.
The film, directed by noted Norwegian “shock” filmmaker Reinert Kiil is a mind-blowing visual to accompany Mortiis’ track, recorded during the same sessions that yielded Mortiis’ latest work, “The Great Deceiver”.
“There’s this (un)quiet desperation in the mini that Reinert created,” Mortiis said. “Something disgusting and forbidden – his personal demons, apparently. I can relate to that, the grit and the decadence. It was a huge part of my life for a long time, as well…that collection of demons and the various ways in which they manifest themselves. With me it was music and lyrics, with Reinert it’s the visual.”
The film debuted at the BUT film festival in Breda, The Netherlands, on September 8 along Kiil’sfull-length films, “Hora” and “Inside the Whore.”
Kiil began toying around with filmmaking as an adolescent. The director has now gained notoriety as Norway’s only Grindhouse filmmaker.Kiil’s work with Mortiis is his first musical collaboration. Both parties were intrigued by the idea of delving into the other’s artform, but both were waiting to find that kindred soul to capture a shared essence. Mortiis and Kiil found that in each other.
“The music is sonically fused with a glimpse of his soul – or crazed mind or whatever it might be – and it is complete, a sordid success,” Mortiis said. “The result is sleazy, strange, disturbing, and extremely violent.”
Avant garde/industrial/metal musical act MORTIIS has teamed up with Norwegian filmmaker Reinert Kiil for a mind-blowing film short, “Vardøger”, including “Geisteskrank” by MORTIIS, which debuted at the BUT film festival in Breda, The Netherlands, on September 8. A showing at Oslo Fright Fest is scheduled for September 22.
The mini film “Vardøger” and soundtrack “Geisteskrank” will be made available to everyone via http://www.mortiis.com as a free download starting October 1.
“Vardøger” is being shown in conjunction with Kiil‘s full-length films “Hora” and “Inside The Whore”. This is Kiil‘s first musical collaboration.
Kiil and Mortiis initially connected through Mortiis‘ guitarist, Levi Gawron, also film-industry colleague of Kiil.
“I really love Mortiis‘ work,” Kiil said. “The collaboration started with me writing a script for a story around my deepest demons, all the while listening to old tracks from Mortiis. I sent the script to Levi and he liked it. We talked many times and made the script more personal for me, as well as for Mortiis. I think the result is a film that expresses the essence of me and Mortiis all in one package.”
Said Gawron: “We connected early on in the Norwegian film industry because we share the same views and interest in films. I guess we both like weird and twisted things! We have played around with this idea for some time now. The idea was that he would make a music video for us, but as the project evolved it became a collaboration where he stood for the visual and we for the music. The idea is to share fans.”
Kiil is a director specializing in “shock” films. In addition to “Hora” and “Inside the Whore”, Kiil has directed the films “Inside The Mind Of A Splatter Director” and “Or To Be Famous”.
Kiil‘s twisted approach was a perfect fit for Mortiis‘ brand of crossover industrial/rock.
“We always said we’d be interested in providing the music as long as we liked the footage,” said Mortiis, founder and namesake of the band. “We thought the song and tempo of the song fit the mood of Reinert‘s mini — slow heavy and foreboding. ‘Geisteskrank’ is not actually an album track per se, which would have made more sense commercially, but that song worked out better than anything else.”
“Geisteskrank” was created during the “The Great Deceiver” sessions.
