LORDI Mainman Interviewed In Manchester (Video)

GetYourRockOut conducted an interview with Mr. Lordi of Finnish heavy metal monsters LORDI on May 8 in Manchester, England. You can now watch the chat below.

LORDI‘s new album, “To Beast Or Not To Beast”, was released on March 1 in Europe (excluding Finland) via AFM Records. The CD was made available in North America on March 19 through The End Records.

“To Beast Or Not To Beast” has registered the following first-week chart positions:

Finland: #8
Germany: #56
Switzerland: # 95

“To Beast Or Not To Beast” was recorded last fall at WireWorld Studio in Nashville, Tennessee with renowned producer Michael Wagener (METALLICA, OZZY OSBOURNE, SKID ROW, DOKKEN, RAVEN, MEGADETH). The CD marks the recording debut of LORDI‘s new members, keyboardist Hella (replacing Awa) and drummer Mana (replacing Otus).

“The road to this album has truly been paved by hardships,” LORDI leader Mr. Lordi says. “However, the new lineup of the band has given us new and fresh touch and an energetic edge to the recording process, and to the album itself.”

He added: “The album cover painting is actually a part of a larger picture. The original artwork had this vintage-styled lady holding a horned skull, which, however, was not the main point of the art piece. There was something not quite right with the setting, so I made experiments with various versions and framings. Album title was ‘Upgradead’ at that point in time, and the painting was done with that title in mind. But now, with a changed concept of the artwork, the title did not seem to fit anymore. We did not consider it an A-class name either. Our guitarist Amen came up with the final title, which we felt suitable and perfect both for the cover artwork and the album.”

LORDI previously worked with Wagener on 2010’s “Babez For Breakfast”, which sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 43 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Germany’s MetalTrails.com spoke with LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi about the To Beast Our Not Tour Beast 2013, the problems when starting with a new tour, the position of the musician as a modern entertainer, why there will never ever be an acoustic Lordi concert, his plans on a tribute album in the far future, old and grumpy artists, young and modern styles of music, the disorientation of most fans of popular music, the phenomenon of the Eurovision Song Contest and why the band would probably have also won it with any other song than ‘Hardrock Hallelujah’.

LORDI To Release ‘Scarchives Vol. 1’ CD/DVD

Finnish heavy metal monsters LORDI will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the release of their debut album and the 20-year anniversary of LORDI‘s conception (then just featuring the band’s mainman, Mr. Lordi) the by issuing a new CD/DVD, entitled “Scarchives Vol. 1”, containing rare and previously unreleased material.

Commented LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi: “The [proposed] box set will NOT come out as a box per se. The items that were supposed to be in the box will be released separately item by item. The reason for this unforeseen change of plans is that all the planned items in the physical box would have raised the production costs so high that the very small, limited quantity of the box would have put the price of each individual box probably unbearable for most of the fans. So it was decided that the best solution is to divide the set in parts. This way the price of each item will not be as pricy, and everyone can decide for themselves what items they want and can afford. So, in a way, the contents of the box set are coming, but the actual physical box is not.”

He continued, “The first part to be released is a CD/DVD. It will include the very first unreleased LORDI album, ‘Bend Over And Pray The Lord – The Heavy Rock Album’ (CD) from 1997. The original booklet is included with no touch-ups whatsoever, plus a long story about making the album. As bonus tracks, ‘Get Heavy’, which was added to the album a bit later on, is included, as well as ‘Hulking Dynamo’, produced and mixed by late TT Oksala for ‘Get Heavy’ in 2002, with little additional work done this year by Mikko Karmila. The other part is a DVD, which includes the very first LORDI show from Nosturi, Helsinki 2002. The show was filmed by multiple cameras, and it is completely unfixed and none of the mistakes and embarrassing moments are edited out. The setlist includes, naturally, all the ‘Get Heavy’ songs. As a bonus, commentary track by myself and a gallery of all the unreleased merchandise from that era.”

Lordi Mainman Reveals ‘Secret’ About Gwar In New Video Interview

Marple from German’s pitXplorer magazine conducted an interview with Finnish heavy metal monsters LORDI before the band’s December 12, 2010 concert at LKA in Stuttgart, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

When asked what the differences are between LORDI and GWAR, LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi replied, “We’re LORDI and they’re GWAR. I mean, everything is different. I guess they’re not that serious. I guess the only thing in common, actually, with GWAR and LORDI is that they’re both rock bands and dressed up as monsters. Even though GWAR says that they’re not human beings, but I can tell you a secret: They are.”

Lordi: Previously Unreleased Song To Be Featured In Finnish Musical

A previously unreleased song from Lordi, “Devil’s Crashing The Party”, will be performed in a musical in Finland. The heavy metal musical called “1827 Infernal Musical” focuses on the great fire that took place in the year 1827 in the city of Turku.

The “1827 Infernal Musical” premiere is scheduled for January 21, 2011 at the Turun Nuori Teatteri in Turku, Finland.
