In order to celebrate their -nothing short of amazing- 30 years career, crowned by the band’s latest and critically acclaimed studio album Hermitage live, together with their European wolfpack, the undisputed kings of the dark, MOONSPELL, have announced a series of tour dates for 2022!
Ever since their formation 30 years ago, the Portuguese took the international heavy music scene by storm, followed by a monumental journey through an impressive, enthralling yet various back catalogue of thirteen records earning their places as one of the most distinctive dark metal classics of all time. But playing live has always been the motor of the band. Especially after the world went into shutdown the more MOONSPELL showed the typical hunger of wolves, and just revealed to team up with no one less than MY DYING BRIDE, BORKNAGAR, WOLFHEART and HINAYANA for an extensive European tour run in 2022!
My Dying Bride, one of THE doom metal bands per excellence joins this high- class line-up. Along with Paradise Lost and Anathema, the British band from Halifax has been lauded as one of the Doomy Three who popularised the genre in the 90s. However, the formation was rarely seen on tour – in this respect the “Ultima Ratio Fest” tour not only offers one of the rare opportunities to experience My Dying Bride but to celebrate their latest album, “The Ghost Of Orion”, live.
Progressive Black Metallers Borknagar are no strangers to the scene either. Founded in 1995 and featuring members of acts such as Enslaved, Immortal, Gorgoroth and Ulver, there’s hardly any other formation that developed classic Black Metal with as much musical versatility as these Norwegians!
And although the Finns of Wolfheart have only been active since 2013, they have left a big stamp with their heavy, melodic doom metal sound. Their last album “Wolfes Of Karelia” even made it to number #8 in the official album charts. Up&coming melodic death metal band, Hinayana, rounds up this eclectic tour package: The Texas- based band made their debut in 2018 but with their latest record, “Death Of The Cosmic”, they stepped out as one of the US best kept metal secrets!
Says MOONSPELL frontman Fernando Ribeiro about the upcoming tour: “Musically speaking, this might be the best tour Moonspell has ever joined. My Dying Bride is one of our favourites when it comes to deep emotional songwriting and there’s no one that can spell Doom as they do. Borkanagar’s last album (Pure North) is a masterpiece and of course that Wolfheart has a special place in our “heart” for reasons that are obvious. We will be celebrating our 30 years together as a band in amazing company and if you’re into bands that “do it for the music” this is a one of a kinda experience that no true fan can afford to miss.
We will be revisiting our career and play classics, new songs and hidden gems alike, so the hype is real, brace yourself for an extraordinary voyage in the amazing company of these bands, probably the best and most heartfelt tour of 2022.”
30 years of MOONSPELL, and blessedly the band doesn’t show any signs to slow down soon. With their latest record Hermitage, the gothic metal masters proved they still belong to the first league of the darkest art of sounds. To celebrate their band anniversary in style, MOONSPELL furthermore announced to reissue their fifth, 2001- album, Darkness And Hope, as well as the pathbreaking Irreligious! One can be sure, their upcoming live performances will contain an exciting blend of timeless classics and modern MOONSPELL anthems. With a ticket sale to start on October 1, 2021 make sure to catch this killer live package live on tour!

Today, the kindred of Yorkshire raise the curtains: MY DYING BRIDE‘s new MLP “Macabre Cabaret”, following the band’s highly acclaimed album “The Ghost Of Orion” (March 6th) is out today!
Singer Aaron Stainthorpe states: “The latest offering from Yorkshires finest merchants of misery features new music composed in the style the band have made their own over three decades which continues their relevance within the scene today. Macabre Cabaret is as menacing and brooding as it is beautiful and melancholic with crushing guitar riffs sailing side by side with emotive piano pieces and vocals to suit all flavours. The stunning artwork captures the image of the band perfectly offering a visual interpretation of the aural devastation that is My Dying Bride.”
To celebrate the news, the band unveils a video for the title track today:
Aaron Stainthorpe adds: “The new video from My Dying Bride offers a visual treat for lovers of gothic menace and doom-heavy art. A narrative shot in various locations is cut with scenes of the band members doing what they do best – performing their music. A provocative story is played out to sombre overtones with a climax sitting well inside the shadows of malice as the band are dramatised in silhouette shade and smoky aplomb.”
The EP was produced mixed and mastered by maestro Mark Mynett and crowned with a beautiful and sinister artwork from Bunker Artworks. It comes as jewelcase CD, digital version, Black Gatefold LP, Black And Blue Splatter LP [US exclusive – limited to 300 p.], Blue Sparkle LP [Mailorder Exclusive – limited to 300 p.], White and Grey Splatter [Mailorder and Wholesale Exclusive – limited to 300 p.], Marigold LP [EMP Exclusive – limited to 300 p] and White LP [US – Revolver Magazine Exclusive – limited to 300 p].
No rest for one of Britain’s most melancholic exports: Just half a year after MY DYING BRIDE returned from their break with their haunting and successful (German Album Charts #12) masterpiece “The Ghost Of Orion”, the kindred of Yorkshire raise the curtains to the “Macabre Cabaret” – their new MLP that will be released on November 20th via Nuclear Blast.
Today, the band already shares a first single and a lyric video for ‘A Secret Kiss’. Watch it here:
The new EP of the band offers three new songs (plus a hidden gem on the physical editions) – dark luscious Death Doom ear candies that will dive their victim into a sensual world of darkness and temptation and conceal the borders between sweet pain and destructive illusion.
Singer Aaron Stainthorpe states: “’Macabre Cabaret’ delves into the shadow empire of dark love and the consequences of unchecked sexuality. The deep passion of physical desire and its all-conquering rage over pure love is written bleakly here. A destructive essence within the soul can’t help but rear its ugly head.
‘A Secret Kiss’ is the final and lasting mark on the soul any human will feel when the lights have dulled and nothing meaningful remains for them. All religion features a shadow creature who arrives at the point of extinction and the release of the human soul, to either guide them to majesty or allow them do fall eternally into the ether.
‘A Purse of Gold and Stars’ is where we keep our hopes and desires and affection, perhaps in a dreamlike state, unattainable yet we still reach out for them. The trinkets and shiny baubles we call happiness and love are what we try so hard to keep close and protect. But it is never quite like that in real life and is often a struggle tainted with sadness but still, we hold the purse close and in tight cold hands.”
The EP was produced mixed and mastered by maestro Mark Mynett and crowned with a beautiful and sinister artwork from Bunker Artworks.
In about three weeks, “The Ghost Of Orion” will unfold its black, silken shroud to cover the world under a spellbindinding layer of doom and despair. After returning from their break, MY DYING BRIDE rose like a phoenix out of the ashes and are set to release their new album via Nuclear Blast on March, 6th.
Today, the band releases its third album trailer talking about the record’s themes, artwork and inspiration. Check out the video here:
MY DYING BRIDE‘s three decades of misery almost came to an end several years ago. Following 2015’s universally lauded »Feel the Misery« album, vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe’s daughter, just five years old at the time, was diagnosed with cancer. Shocked and heartbroken, Stainthorpe put all band activities on hold while he, his immediate family, and MY DYING BRIDE put their collective energies into eradicating what Stainthorpecalled, “the cruellest of God’s bitter and loveless creations.” The high hurdles, however, didn’t stop with cancer. In 2018, returning original member and guitarist Calvin Robertshaw texted his departure, effective immediately. No reason was given or explanation provided to anyone. Then, just as MY DYING BRIDE had regrouped after positive news that his daughter was effectively cancer free, returning drummer Shaun Taylor-Steels departed right before the band were slated to enter Mark Mynett’s studio, Mynetaur Productions. Down two members but feeling right as rain, MY DYING BRIDEmoved on, mastered the doldrums, recording magnificent new album, »The Ghost of Orion«, to the joyful tears of fans across the globe, in the process.
The cold fingers of “The Ghost Of Orion” reach out for the world to wrap it in desperate misery, heavy melodies and hopeless misery: MY DYING BRIDE release their new album on March 6th via NuclearBlast.
Today, the British kings of doom death metal release a lyric video for their new single “Tired Of Tears”. Check the video here:
The track has a particularly special meaning for frontman Aaron Stainthorpe, as he explains: “The track touches upon the most terrifying, stressful and harrowing period of my entire life – the near death of my only child. I have been down before but it never hurt like this. This was true darkness and I was not sure my mind could take it. My entire world looked like it was going to implode but I was determined to fight all the way. Tired of tears was exactly how I felt. They had been flowing freely from me for months and I was a shadow of my former self. It is sad that this will continue for many others. Innocent people. so very tired of tears.“
