MYRKUR‘s Amalie Bruun has shared a third and final pre-release single from her forthcoming album, Folkesange which is set for release March 20th via Relapse Records.
Following previous singles “Ella” and “Leaves of Yggdrasil” today Brunn presents a third glimpse with “Gudernes Vilje,” a Danish term which translates as “The Will of the Gods”.
She explains, “I wrote this song about being given the biggest gift in life and then having it taken away from you. ‘Alt går som Gudernes Vilje’ means Everything goes according to the will of the Gods. We are only human and some of the biggest most important things in this life, are completely out of our control.”
The song features piano, violin, mandola, cello, frame drum along Bruun’s ethereal, crystalline vocals.
Danish composer and multi-instrumentalist, MYRKUR has revealed her new video and single, “Leaves of Yggdrasil”. Amalie Bruuns‘ delicate and sweeping vocals paired with the violin, piano, lyre and nyckelharpa make for a lullaby-like song which she notes, “is very dear to my heart.” She continues, “I wrote Leaves of Yggdrasil about being apart from the one you love because of circumstances that are completely out of your control. The Norns weave the fates of Gods and man and sometimes that means very tough life situations. I wanted to create a song with the feeling of an old folk-tale, but with words that resonated with my own life today.”
For the video, Amalie rejoined forces with filmmaker Mats Ek to create something entirely different from anything she’s ever done. Watch below as they take you into a visual universe somewhere outside of nature and more into the otherworldly.

Due out March 20 via Relapse Records, “Folkesange” relinquishes black metal for a refined yet far-reaching evocation of traditional folk, combining songs ancient and new to sublimely resonant effect.

MYRKUR’s Amalie Bruun on the album coverart: “With a baby in my belly the day we photographed the Hans Dahl painting. This painting hangs in my living room, it has been in my family for generations and I inherited it from my grandmother. My mother used to tell me it was me in the painting and I’ve always had a strong connection to it. It feels very full circle to have it as my album cover for Folkesange 🖤“

It is my ode to mankind and our connection with nature – a rite of passage as a woman and a rebirth-ritual in the sea.”
Danish composer, vocalist and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, MYRKUR, unveils her powerful new ballad and video, “Juniper“. Director Philippe de Grenade, gorgeously captures her ethereal performance on 16mm film as she stuns listeners with an infectious chorus and lush string arrangements.
Myrkur is Amalie Bruun. For her forthcoming Juniper EP, she’s joined forces with Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Paradise Lost, Solstafir, Cathedral) at Orgone Studios in Bedfordshire, England. Together, both tracks exquisitely display Myrkur’s eclectic sound and captivating personality. A limited edition of the 7″ will coincide with the digital release, December 7th on Relapse Records. PARKWAY DRIVE are taking a night out of their packed summer schedule to bring their full live production to the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards 2018 in association with Monster Energy, taking place at the Indigo at The O2, London, on Monday, June 11. Playing a half-hour set, the band will be joining the loudest party in town following a headline performance at Download Festival on the Zippo Encore stage on Saturday, June 9. This will be the only non-festival UK show the band will play for the rest of 2018.
Alongside PARKWAY DRIVE, at Metal Hammer Golden God Awards 2018 also performing live are BARONESS, MESHUGGAH, MYRKUR and CARPENTER BRUT.
PARKWAY DRIVE are one of the most exciting live bands on the planet. They headlined the prestigious, 5,000-capacity Brixton Academy venue twice on their last world tour, and are currently playing around the globe in support of their latest album, ‘Reverence’, which landed in May. For the first time, they’ll be bringing their full festival production to the Indigo.
PARKWAY DRIVE’s career has seen an incredible trajectory since the release of their fifth album, ’Ire’, in 2015. Their first Number One in their homeland of Australia, it saw the band propelled into larger venues, picking up scores of fans along the way, with a new direction in sound taking them away from their metalcore roots. Now, in 2018, they are selling out venues, playing to thousands of fans a night around the world and headlining major festivals.
“When you already have a bill this stacked, you need something very special to close out the show – and special this will be,” says Metal Hammer Editor, Merlin Alderslade. “Parkway Drive have long been rightly regarded as one of the best live bands on planet Earth, and witnessing them cramming their full production into the confines of the Indigo will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Do not miss it. We’ll see you down the front.”
This exclusive, intimate performance for Metal Hammer is an opportunity not to be missed. Tickets for this show are priced at just £11.25 and are available from https://goldengods.eventbrite. co.uk.
