Napalm Records have announced that VISTA CHINO, the band formed by John Garcia and Brant Bjork (formerly of KYUSS) have finished work on their new album. Today the band has unveiled the album title as well as the cover art for the record. The album is titled “Peace” and the artwork for the album was created by the renowned California art collective – The Date Farmers.
Drummer Brant Bjork commented about working with The Date Farmers: “The Date Farmers are native to the desert where we are from. It is an honor to work together with such prolific artists!” VISTA CHINO’s first North American performance will take place this Sunday June 9th at the “Orion Festival” in Detroit, MI curated by METALLICA. VISTA CHINO will appear on the “Frantic Stage”.
A full North American tour will be announced shortly.
Rising from the desert sands that birthed KYUSS Lives, VISTA CHINO’s sound is instantly familiar. With the trademark soulful vocals of John Garcia, the songwriting and production of Brant Bjork (drums) and the fuzz-laden riffage of imported guitarist Bruno Fevery, VISTA CHINO’s debut is one of the year’s most anticipated heavy rock albums. A new band born of a storied past, right now it’s about these players playing these songs.

A seven-minute YouTube clip containing “Okkult” audio samples is available below.
Commentes ATROCITY singer and producer Alex Krull: “With ‘Okkult’, we want to start a very special album trilogy. Most recently with the ‘Die Gottlosen Jahre (The Godless Years)’ DVD, a splendid film documentary was released commemorating our longer-than-25-year career, which even now is to run at film festivals. Reason enough now to usher in a new era of ATROCITY! Musically, no prisoners will be taken, the ‘Okkult’ series is also brutal, bombastic and dark. These will not only be the heaviest and most brutal albums of ATROCITY since years, but also the darkest works of our band’s history. Lovers of our harder material like ‘Hallucinations’, ‘Todessehnsucht’, ‘Blut’ or ‘Atlantis’ will surely be delighted with the ‘Okkult’ series at their expense, although the ‘Okkult’ songs have their own trademarks, of course.”
The new ATROCITY opus, “Okkult”. is described in a press release as “the kickstart to an album trilogy as it has not been seen before in the metal scene! Musically, ATROCITY show an enormous tension width, and deliver a very powerful, homogeneous and atmospheric album: On the one hand with much bombast and big choirs a la ‘March Of The Undying’; on the other hand, ATROCITY deliver equally purist, brutal metal songs, which get under your skin just as intensely, closely and authentically. The overall sound is perfectly harmonized. The earthy, brilliant production sounds intoxicating and gives the musical pieces the necessary energy, atmosphere and roughness to dive immediately into the lyrical concept. This is anything but one-dimensional. The lyrics relate to occult magic, mysterious places, conspiracy theories and mysteries that are still unsolved. Thus, ATROCITY turn John Milton‘s vision of ‘Pandemonium’ into reality in an imposing way. With ‘Death By Metal’, a mystical tale from long ago, ATROCITY have composed a tribute to their own musical roots, as well as it is their own band anthem. The band takes us with ‘Haunted By Demons’ on a Scottish haunted castle, and brings in ‘Necromancy Divine’ the ancient necromancer Erictho back to life. Moreover, the ‘Okkult’ cover motif is dedicated to her. With overwhelming power the gates of hell are opened in ‘Masaya (Boca del Inferno)’. The epic ‘When Empires Fall To Dust’ set the mystical prophecies of a mysterious, French Freemason from the First World War to music. Never before has the Ides of March been staged musically as gripping as in ‘Murder Blood Assassination’. Also the myths surrounding the Antarctic have never before been turned into such a hymnic piece of music (‘Beyond Perpetual Ice’). As a culmination the poisoner and witch ‘La Voisine’ does her mischief in the Paris of the 17th Century: What could fit better than a smashing, furious metal song of the brand ATROCITY?”
In keeping with the dark atmosphere of “Okkult”, ATROCITY got the Canadian sound designer Katie Halliday on board. She worked for movies like “Saw V”, “Saw VI”, “Saw 3D (VII)”, “The Devil’s Carnival” and “Todd And The Book Of Pure Evil”, and already could reap some awards for her work. The orchestral parts were recorded by the Lingua Mortis Orchestra under the direction of Victor Smolski (RAGE) in Minsk, Belarus. Besides all harshness and bombast, ATROCITY again show their excellent sense of very good, catchy songs — “Satan’s Braut” is definitely a pure club hit.
Adds Krull: “For our fans, we’ve come up with something very special: There will be no conventional bonus tracks on the ‘Okkult’ albums! In return, all fans can actively engage in a kind of treasure hunt. For the respective ‘Okkult’ albums, we will hide one song on an ‘occult site,’ which is the ‘missing track’ to each album. For the first ‘Okkult’ record, that certain place will be in Europe. All original recording tracks and mixes of these songs will be destroyed by our own hands, that also means we as a band will also not be able to listen to these songs until they are found. They are in the truest sense of the word: Unique.”
ATROCITY 2013 is:
Alexander Krull – Vocals Thorsten Bauer – Guitar, Bass Sander Van Der Meer – Guitar Joris Nijenhuis – Drums
After the release of 2011’s “Break The Silence” and the headlining tour through seven European countries in support of the album, German “a cappella metal” band VAN CANTO — which consists of five singers and one drummer (no guitars, no bass, no keyboards) — took a break from live performances. They used the time to work on numerous side projects — including mastermind Stefan Schmidt‘s new power metal band HEAVATAR, and to recharge the batteries for their return in 2013.
In addition to making a number of festival appearances, VAN CANTO will release its fifth studio album in the fall/winter of 2013 as part of its renewed collaboration with Napalm Records.
Says Nadir, Napalm Records A&R representative: “VAN CANTO is innovative, unique and polarizing — that’s the best thing that can happen to a label. You must not let a band like this go, and that’s why we are proud that VAN CANTO continue to work with us. Together, we will shake the foundations of the metal world!”
Adds Stef of VAN CANTO: “To take a break for a full year was quite odd for us. Maybe there are bands that are satisfied with releasing an album every 5 years, but for us it felt quite unnatural to stay away from the stage for a full year. We have checked out new things, and are now more eager than ever to return with VAN CANTO. We are happy that Napalm Records will be the partner for our fifth album. The album will be the most heroic, heaviest and most symphonic album in our discography, and we cannot wait to enter the studio.”
Norwegian/Italian metallers TRISTANIA have posted an audio teaser for the new song “Darkest White”, to be featured on the band’s upcoming seventh full-length album, due for release in May via Napalm Records. Listen to the sample in the YouTube clip below.
TRISTANIA‘s new CD is being produced by Christer André Cederberg, who started his metal career with Norwegian avant garde extreme metal band IN THE WOODS… in the late 1990s, and has been involved in numerous bands and projects, including his own solo project STILLE OPPRØR and internationally acclaimed ANIMAL ALPHA.
Says TRISTANIA singer Kjetil Nordhus: “This was agreed a while ago, and we started the working together already at the pre-production stage.
“We already know this will be fruitful and we’re extremely eager to show people the finished article. It feels good to share this piece of news with our fans.”
TRISTANIA fans may be familiar with Cederberg‘s work through his most recent collaboration with ANATHEMA on their award-winning album “Weather Systems” (2012).
Christer André says that he’s been eager to work with TRISTANIA for a while and is excited about getting involved in the band’s latest recording.
“There is a huge amount of talent within each and every band member, and a number of possible variations to work on, not least vocally, which makes this a great challenge for me as a producer,” he says. “My aim for the forthcoming album is to dig out the potential, make a heavier album than the previous one, more organic, detailed and refined, but also dirtier and more extreme. TRISTANIA is a band that manage to do all this live, and we will be working together to recreate that energy and quality also on record.”
The first part of the recording sessions (drums) for the new TRISTANIA album took place at Tanken Studio in Oslo with engineer Fredrik Wallumrød.
TRISTANIA‘s sixth album, “Rubicon”, was released in August 2010 via Napalm.
TRISTANIA in 2007 announced the addition of Italian singer Mariangela “Mary” Demurtas to the group’s ranks. Guitarist Gyri Losnegård was added to the lineup in 2008.
The band’s previous CD, “Illumination”, was released in January 2007 via SPV. The effort was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Waldemar Sorychta (LACUNA COIL, TIAMAT, GRIP INC.).
Swedish “Viking metal” act MÅNEGARM is currently recording its new album for an April/May 2013 release via Napalm Records.
Commented the band: “[So far] all is done and recorded except vocals on six tracks. Due to some unforeseen voice problems, the mixing of the album is postponed one month until the last weekend in January. We already got on test mix of a track and it sounds killer! So you can expect some heavy shit.”
Violin player Janne Liljekvist has left MÅNEGARM in June “due to lack of motivation.”
MÅNEGARM‘s most recent CD, “Nattväsen”, was released in November 2009 via Regain Records.
German power metallers PARAGON have inked a deal with Napalm Records. The band’s tenth album, “Force Of Destruction”, will be released at the end of October. The CD was produced by Piet Sielck (GAMMA RAY, BLIND GUARDIAN, IRON SAVIOUR) at Powerhouse in Hamburg. Guest vocals on the bonus version of the song “Blood & Iron” were laid down by Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY, UNISONIC) and Sielck.
PARAGON bassist Jan Bünning previously stated about “Force Of Destruction”, “Piet Sielck has done an awesome job. To me, it sounds like a heavier and more ‘life’ version of ‘Revenge’ mixed with the guitar sound of ‘Law Of The Blade’. Just perfect!
“Our guitar player Wolle [Wolfgang Tewes] wrote a album full of PARAGON classics and our ‘newbie’ Jan Bertram shredded a whole bunch of great lead guitar parts. And Buschi [Andreas Babuschkin; vocals] seems to be like wine — he’s getting better and better and has delievered the best performance he has ever done.”
The track listing for the new PARAGON CD is as follows:
01. Last Day On Earth (intro)
02. Iron Will
03. Tornado
04. Gods Of Thunder
05. Bulletstorm
06. Blood & Iron
07. Blades Of Hell
08. Dynasty
09. Rising From The Black
10. Demon’s Lair
11. Secrecy
The cover artwork was once again created by Dirk Illing (SCORPIONS, RUNNING WILD), while the photos are being handled by Stefan Malzkorn (GAMMA RAY, SAXON) and the cover layout is being overseen by Claudia von Bihl (Auburn Records, ACCEPT, ANVIL).
Jan Betram previously played with PARAGON‘s drummer, Chris Gripp.
PARAGON 2012 is:
Andreas Babuschkin – Vocals Wolfgang Tewes – Guitar, Backing Vocals Jan Bertram – Guitar, Backing Vocals Jan Bünning – Bass, Backing Vocals Chris Gripp – Drums, Backing Vocals
PARAGON‘s last album, “Screenslaves”, was released in November 2008 via Massacre Records. The CD was produced by Uwe Lullis (ex-GRAVE DIGGER, REBELLION) at Black Solaris Studio in Frankfurt.
Bünning quit PARAGON after the recording of 2007’s “Forgotten Prophecies” because of “musical differences” but rejoined the band in 2009.
