TRISTANIA Singer Mariangela Demurtas has issued the first official announcement, via her facebook page, to release her debut solo album:

This work brings you ten songs that have been maturing in my head for the last two years and finally, they will be available for all of you that have been following my path with Tristania. Even being aware that my career has been mostly linked to the Gothic Metal genre, which I really praise, there’s much more about me and my musical roots that people should know about. So, this time I felt I should release something that would honestly represent what my heart wishes to speak, by stepping away from the over produced music that sometimes doesn’t let the message be clear.

Writing a solo record isn’t perhaps the easiest task in the world because after all you will have to deal mostly with your doubts and fears when trying to find the song that represents you and what you wish to speak, but at the end of the day it is indeed a very rewarding process that lets you know more and more about yourself. I guess that’s the purpose of art… Learning through expression.

This album will bring you some honest, simple, clear half-acoustic songs, that obviously, talk about my life experiences, and mostly the way I look at the world we’re living. Hope you can all connect to it somehow. I believe, my metal brothers and sisters will like this album even though it doesn’t sound like Tristania or any of my other projects.

I am already considering the next one; maybe in Italian or Sardinian? I don’t know yet, but either way more information will follow in the next few months. I am just getting started.

Italian singer Mariangela “Mary” Demurtas of Norway’s TRISTANIA and Italian guitarist Francesco Marras‘ (SCREAMING SHADOWS) have released a video for their acoustic cover version of THE MARS VOLTA song “The Widow”. Check it out below. The clip was produced by Luigi Marras and Francesco Marras.

Says Demurtas about the video: “THE MARS VOLTA is one of my favorite bands. Since me and Francesco are getting ready to play some acoustic set soon in Sardinia, here you have the chance to see what it is about.”

Demurtas joined TRISTANIA in 2007 and is featured on the band’s sixth album, “Rubicon”, which came out in August 2010 via Austria’s Napalm Records. The group’s follow-up CD, “Darkest White”, is scheduled for release on May 31 via Napalm.

Francesco‘s first solo instrumental album, “Black Sheep”, is available on iTunes and AmazonMP3.

TRISTANIA: Audio Sample Of New Song

Norwegian/Italian metallers TRISTANIA have posted an audio teaser for the new song “Darkest White”, to be featured on the band’s upcoming seventh full-length album, due for release in May via Napalm Records. Listen to the sample in the YouTube clip below.

TRISTANIA‘s new CD is being produced by Christer André Cederberg, who started his metal career with Norwegian avant garde extreme metal band IN THE WOODS… in the late 1990s, and has been involved in numerous bands and projects, including his own solo project STILLE OPPRØR and internationally acclaimed ANIMAL ALPHA.

Says TRISTANIA singer Kjetil Nordhus: “This was agreed a while ago, and we started the working together already at the pre-production stage.

“We already know this will be fruitful and we’re extremely eager to show people the finished article. It feels good to share this piece of news with our fans.”

TRISTANIA fans may be familiar with Cederberg‘s work through his most recent collaboration with ANATHEMA on their award-winning album “Weather Systems” (2012).

Christer André says that he’s been eager to work with TRISTANIA for a while and is excited about getting involved in the band’s latest recording.

“There is a huge amount of talent within each and every band member, and a number of possible variations to work on, not least vocally, which makes this a great challenge for me as a producer,” he says. “My aim for the forthcoming album is to dig out the potential, make a heavier album than the previous one, more organic, detailed and refined, but also dirtier and more extreme. TRISTANIA is a band that manage to do all this live, and we will be working together to recreate that energy and quality also on record.”

The first part of the recording sessions (drums) for the new TRISTANIA album took place at Tanken Studio in Oslo with engineer Fredrik Wallumrød.

TRISTANIA‘s sixth album, “Rubicon”, was released in August 2010 via Napalm.

TRISTANIA in 2007 announced the addition of Italian singer Mariangela “Mary” Demurtas to the group’s ranks. Guitarist Gyri Losnegård was added to the lineup in 2008.

The band’s previous CD, “Illumination”, was released in January 2007 via SPV. The effort was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Waldemar Sorychta (LACUNA COIL, TIAMAT, GRIP INC.).
