Eat The Gun – Howlinwood. An excellent album from a band with a refreshingly different sound! Although they’re described as “Alternative Rock”, this old-school Metalhead found “Howlinwood” to be a very rewarding listen. In the final analysis, it all boils down to the songs, and these guys have them in spades! Speaking of spades, specifically the Ace of Spades, my first impression of Eat The Gun was of a more melodic Motorhead-style mix of Metal and Punk energy, not in terms of the vocals, just with regard to the raw, high impact sound. In the course of playing the album through from start to finish I was reminded of AC/DC, Motley Crue, The Beatles, Linkin Park, the Offsrping, the Ramones, Pearl Jam, Three Colours Red, and the Almighty, but they have their own defined musical identity, and their sound is tuneful and aggressive in equal measure. If you’re in the mood for something a little different that still has enough familiar elements so as not to be too left-field, check this album out!
