Darkness Shall Rise, the German label specialising in the release of high quality music cassettes, will release the first two albums from Norwegian Black Metal veterans RAGNAROK on the 31 August.
The two albums, 1995’s “Nattferd” and 1997’s “Arising Realm”, have never been released on cassette before, giving collectors and RAGNAROK fans a long-awaited treat. “Nattferd” and “Arising Realm” will be available in a limited quantity of 350 copies each, and are now available to pre-order from https://darknessshallrise.de/

The band recently had this to say about their ninth full-length album:
Our new album, “Non Debellicata”, is the result of an extensive process in which all the members of the band participated creatively, both musically and lyrically. We put a lot of work into this album to make it as extreme and violent as we possibly could, pushing the borders of our musicianship and song writing skills. Originally we started out with 20 songs, out of which we rehearsed 16 and whittled it down to 13 for recording. We eventually chose 10 for inclusion on the album, because we wanted to ensure the highest possible quality of every song.
As for the title itself:
“Non Debellicata” refers to a phrase used as the motto for our home town Saropsborg in the olden days. It is taken froma letter Jarl Alv Erlingsson sent to the Scottish Government in 1286. Aside from being a nobleman and the Jarl (Earl) of Sarpsborg, Alv was also an infamous pirate who was in the habit of robbing Danish and German merchant ships.
The Scottish government had confiscated a number of Norwegian ships and Jarl Alv wrote them a letter, in which he said that maybe they were under the impression that Norway was weak after being at war for several years. But assured them that they would learn that the Norwegian people were not weakened by the war and would never be defeated.
NON DEBELLICATA. The people of Norway would never give up – and neither will RAGNAROK!
To celebrate the album’s release, RAGNAROK are set to support US Death Metallers IMMOLATION on a 21-date European tour. Accompanying them on the tour will be Austria’s MONUMENT OF MISANTHROPY and Italy’s EMBRYO.

A video for the track ” Dominance and Submission” from RAGNAROK’s eighth full-length album “Psychopathology” can be seen below.
Norwegian Black Metal veterans RAGNAROK are set to play a couple of tracks from their upcoming full-length album during their Inferno Festival appearance tomorrow, Friday 19 April.
As founder Jontho, one of Black Metal’s most recognisable and iconic drummers who has laid down his sticks in order to front RAGNAROK, explains:
Oslo’s Inferno Festival is not just legendary in Norway, it’s legendary throughout the world, so it’s always exciting to appear there, as it is to soak up the atmosphere and meet all the fans. That’s why we thought we’d break out a couple of the new songs even before we announce details of the album itself.
You can catch RAGNAROK on the Rockefeller stage at 16:30.
Whilst the band doesn’t want to reveal too much about what will be their ninth full-length album at this time, they have confirmed that once again they have called on the services MARDUK bassist Devo to steer them through the recording process at his Endarker Studio in Sweden, and that it is set for release on Agonia Records later in the year.
More details will follow soon.
Aside from their appearance at Inferno Festival, other confirmed dates for RAGNAROK include the following:
17 May: Sticky Fingers, Gothenburg, Sweden (with CRAFT)
18 May: Kraken, Stockholm, Sweden (with CRAFT)
15 May: Oak Metal Club, Fosser, Norway (with CREST OF DARKNESS)
Twenty five years after having been formed by iconic drummer Jontho, veteran Norwegian Black Metallers RAGNAROK have entered the studio to begin work on what will be the band’s ninth full-length album. The, as yet unnamed, album is expected to be released during late May 2019 on Agonia Records.
Work on the album is progressing well, with drum tracks having already been laid and work on guitars having begun. As with RAGNAROK’s last three albums, “Psychopathology” (2016), “Malediction” (2012) and “Collectors of the King” (2010), the band has chosen to record in Sweden’s Endarker Studio, with Devo (MARDUK) once again producing, because, as Jontho, who has now switched roles from drummer to frontman, explained:
Why change something that works? We know the studio so well by now and how good the facilities are, and, after three albums, Devo really understands what RAGNAROK wants and how we work. He’s a great producer and we’re really looking forward to seeing what he does the new material.
RAGNAROK will head for Canada later this month to appear at the Messe des Morts Festival in Montreal, and have been confirmed to appear at next year’s legendary Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo, Norway, on the 19th April.
