Finnish “dark” metal band O X í S T has posted a new demo song, “Old World Vanished”, on its MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/oxist). The track is taken from the group’s new promo CD-R, which the band has recorded in order to prepare for its full-length debut. O X í S T’s first album will be recorded in early 2011.

In other news, 0 X í S T will host its “Dark Metal Manifest” club event for the first time on October 8 at Club Escape in Riihimäki, Finland. Also scheduled to appear are MMD from Helsinki and GHOST VOYAGE from Tampere.

Memfis: New Album Coming Soon

Swedish progressive metal band Memfis has just recently recorded a new studio album. The yet untitled follow-up to ‘The Wind-up’ (released in the fall of 2006) were brought to life at Bohus Sound Studios (ABBA, Status Quo, E.S.T., Mustasch) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Engineered and produced by Fredrik Reinedahl (Burst, Gadget, Crowpath, Opeth and many more) and mastered by Dragan Tanaskovic (Evergrey, ESC).

Three songs from the forthcoming album — “In Chase Of Death”, “Serpent” and “Vertigo” – are available for streaming on the Memfis MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/memfisband

Falconer: New Album Title Announced

Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall of the Swedish metal band Falconer has issued the following update:

“Recording time is coming up. Most songs for the next Falconer album are written and rehearsed soon as the studio time is drawing nearer, starting to feel a bit stressed!! The album will be mixed in the end of January so I’d guess we’re up for a late spring release.

“The title of the new album will be ‘Armod’ and will be completely sung in Swedish except for the bonus tracks that will simply be English versions of the best (according to us) new songs.

“This time we have concentrated on the traditional folk side of our music including more traditional folk songs (the majority of the material is still our own), more fiddles and flutes. Be calm, the horrid sound of accordions will firmly be left behind!!

“This is a way to finally devoting an entire album to the influences and getting that out of our system, so to speak, and to do the thing some have asked for during ten years. This is not the new direction of us but just the sound of THIS album.

“We are prepared for nagging about lack of speed and the full use of the Swedish language and, of course, the cynical opinions that we lack inspiration and thus use more traditional folk songs. The next time we’ll take another step; I wonder what that can be.”

Amorphis Begins Recording New Album

Finnish Amorphis have entered Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki to begin recording their 10th studio album, to be released in early 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.

On September 17, Amorphis celebrated its 20th anniversary by releasing a special retrospective, “Magic & Mayhem – Tales From The Early Years”, featuring newly re-recorded versions of the songs from the band’s first three albums (1992’s “Karelian Isthmus”, 1994’s “Tales From The Thousand Lakes” and 1996’s “Elegy”) with slightly different arrangements, better audio quality and featuring the band’s current lineup.

Amorphis guitarist Esa Holopainen told Petri Silas of Finland’s Soundi magazine in early June that he was especially happy with how “My Kantele” and “Song Of The Troubled One” turned out. The collection also includes such gems as “Vulgar Necrolatry” and the band’s cover of The Doors’ “Light My Fire”. The latter song was previously recorded by the band and was included on the reissue of the “Tales from the Thousand Lakes” LP, but the new collection features an all-new version that was tracked in early 2010.

Limp Bizkit Drummer Diagnosed With Pneumonia

Limp Bizkit‘s reunion tour just got put on ice in Norway after pneumonia took down the band’s drummer, John Otto. The band’s manager has told TMZ.com that the band was forced to  pull the plug on yesterday’s show in Oslo, Norway after drummer John Otto  was hospitalized in Oslo. He is currently undergoing a series of tests to determine the seriousness of his condition.

In other news:
Limp Bizkit recently completed work on its new studio album, “Gold Cobra”, but has yet to announce a release date for the effort.

Regarding the new CD’s musical direction, frontman Fred Durst recently told MTV News, “I think that, in a nutshell, we came in staying true to ourselves and doing what we do. … We make heavy music that has rapping in it. We’re a rap-core band. Through the years, it felt natural to try and explore and grow beyond that, and inevitably, it led us in different directions. And what our coming back together represents is us having figured out that, you know, evolution is great, but we need to do what we do.

“And this new album, this is what we do. The evolution has brought us full-circle,” Durst continued. “We’re Limp Bizkit. And if you didn’t like it before, you’re not going to like it now. If you don’t want to hear a band that plays super-heavy grooves, with an MC rapping over it, then you shouldn’t listen to Limp Bizkit.”

Angra, The Goddness Of Fire Has Awakened

Angra is a power metal band from São Paulo, Brazil, known for its symphonic interludes, highly technical instrumental playing and Brazilian regional elements. The band’s story starts in 1991. The debut album (released in 1993) “Angels Cry” was a great success in Brazil as well as in Japan where it sold over 100,000 copies. That year Angra dominated the polls of the Brazilian magazine Rock Brigade obtaining awards for Best New Band, Best Album, Best Singer, Best Album Cover and Best Keyboard Player.

After six successful albums, followed by some disagreements with a ex-drummer, and problems with the former management, Angra, in 1998, stopped for a year, focusing for the various personal projects …  only to come back and stand up together on stage, stronger than ever, completed with the same passion to share deep and endless emotions with the public … The Goddess of Fire, Angra, had awakened …

Although I normally listen to more heavy stuff … even though my heart is beating with the rhythms of metal/hardcore  I’m deeply fascinated in front of “Aqua”. I admit that previously I knew quite little of their music, but in these past days I’ve got a nice and very pleasant full-immersion, while listening to this new album (and of course the older releases)
…relaxed and led by some Shakespeare action, smoothly running before my eyes …

… The phone rings, making me come back to reality, it’s 4 pm, and the friendly voice of Rafael (Bittencourt), Angra’s guitarist, greets me from Brazil. We had set the interview for that evening at 8 o’clock, but he wanted to ask me if we could do it earlier… like now? Believe me, I didn’t have anything against it … 🙂
