STRATOVARIUS’ ‘Dreamspace’-Era Lineup To Release New Album In January

Former STRATOVARIUS leader and current SYMFONIA guitarist Timo Tolkki has teamed up with fellow ex-STRATOVARIUS members Tuomo Lassila (drums), Anti Ikonen (keyboards) and Jari Kainulainen (former member of EVERGREY) to record a new studio album. The CD, which will be released in January 2012, will celebrate STRATOVARIUS‘ 30-year anniversary and will feature the same lineup as the one that recorded STRATOVARIUS‘ “Dreamspace” LP, originally released in 1994.

For legal reasons, the band’s original name — PROJECT STRATO — had to be scrapped. More than 20 songs have been written for the project, including “Return To Dreamspace”, “Digital Jesus”, “Santiago”, “Chevaliers De Sangreal”, “Full Circle” and “Farewell No. 2”.

“Return To Dreamspace” will see Timo Tolkki handling the vocals again and the fans of the “Twilight Time”/“Dreamspace” era will surely not be disappointed.

Regarding the musical direction of the CD, Tolkki previously said, “It has been [17] years from [STRATOVARIUS‘ ‘Dreamspace’] album, so it will be interesting, for sure… It’s not a ‘remake,’ but a brand new album. A closure for [what] I consider to be the end of STRATOVARIUS. It completes the cycle and returns to the beginning.”

In 1982, Tuomo Lassila (drums) formed STRATOVARIUS and came up with the band’s name. Timo Tolkki (guitar) and Antti Ikonen (keyboards) joined the band in 1984 — that is some 25 years ago, and as a result the group recorded such classic albums as “Twilight Time”, “Dreamspace” and “Fourth Dimension”. After the departure of Lassila and Ikonen in 1995, STRATOVARIUS went to more neo-classical sound and style exploring Timo Tolkki‘s songwriting and producing skills earning the band a Finnish Grammy and sales exceeding over two million records.

Tolkki drew up and signed an official waiver on May 20, 2008 giving up all rights to the STRATOVARIUS name. The remaining STRATOVARIUS members — Timo Kotipelto (vocals), Jens Johansson (keyboards) and Lauri Porra (bass) — have since recorded and released two additional STRATOVARIUS albums with guitarist Matias Kupiainen.

INEVITABLE END: Debuts New Track From ‘The Oculus’

Sweden’s INEVITABLE END has posted a new preview track “Of Sublime Dimensions” off their forthcoming album The Oculus online now via Lambgoat.com. The band has previously posted the track “Memento” via the INEVITABLE END Facebook and MySpace pages along with a preview of the album’s artwork. The Oculus was recorded at HoBoRec Studio in Huskvarna, Sweden with producer Ulf Blomberg and is set for a June 6th international release date. Video footage of INEVITABLE END at HoBoRec can be viewed below.

The Oculus, the follow-up album to 2009’s The Severed Inception, will be available on CD (pre-order here) and digitally (pre-order at iTunes). NORTHER: Entire New Album Available For Streaming

“Circle Regenerated”, the new album from the Finnish melodic death/black metal act NORTHER, is available for streaming in its entirety until April 26 at the Record Shop X web site. The follow-up to 2008’s “N” marks the recording debut of the band’s new vocalist Aleksi Sihvonen “and will leave no long-time fan of the band dissatisfied and will grab you by the balls with its stunning blend of viciously infective hooks, epic elements and powerful riffs and leads,” according to a press release.

“Circle Regenerated” is being released via Century Media Records on the following dates:

Dan Swanö did the mastering on this album, he said:

“It was pure pleasure to work with these guys. The mix was excellent to start with, so I finally had the opportunity to work with gentle strokes rather than the big roller that I sometimes have to use to shape-up not-so-good mixes. Musically I enjoyed it very much. It’s not easy to label their music (which is good). If I had to mention something, I get that amazing “epic” vibe of Queensryche 84-88. They definitely add something to the family of progressive metal”

Eliran Kantor made the artwork for the album:

“The first draft of the lyrics from Oddleif made it clear that this is going to be a very personal, dark and vulnerable record – and I wanted the cover to reflect that. The vulture, nature’s version of the grim reaper, caresses the dying man, casting a shadow reveling its true intentions and reason for this last visit. I put alot of myself into this artwork, and I think it turned out great”

Swedish folk metal masters YGGDRASIL will release their new album, “Irrbloss” (English translation: “Will-o-wisps”) on April 25 via Grand Master Music. The long-awaited follow up to 2008’s “Vedergällning” was recorded, mixed and mastered at Grand Master Audio in Sweden.

Ghost Brigade Completes Work On New Album

Finnish metallers GHOST BRIGADE have completed work on their third album, “Until Fear No Longer Defines Us”, for a late summer release via Season Of Mist.

GHOST BRIGADE‘s sophomore CD, 2009’s “Isolation Songs”, entered the official chart in Finland at position No. 22.

The band’s debut, “Guided by Fire”, was released on September 17, 2007 via Season of Mist.

Regarding the band’s musical direction, GHOST BRIGADE previously stated, “There are so many bands and artists that have influenced us throughout the years that I couldn’t just pick a few and say we’re a mixture of those. That wouldn’t do the listener nor us any justice. We are influenced by anything that sounds good, be it older death metal, melancholic pop music or anything in between. So I guess we just collect little pieces along the way, put it all into a blender and the result is GHOST BRIGADE. To anyone who hasn’t heard us, I’d say it’s heavy, dynamic and metallic music filled with beautiful melodies and a fine dose of anxiety.”
