Noctem released their ‘Oblivion’ album last year and after experiencing the album for myself I was very curious as to what made these metallers “Tick” so to speak.
I was joined with Beleth, Vocalist from the band who kindly dropped in to share some words and info about the band, the music, and everything in between.
Welcome to Metal Shock Finland, I’m Dylan Raine, Can you introduce yourself and the band?
Hi. My name is Beleth, vocalist and one of the original members of the band Noctem. We started with Noctem in 2001, after eleven years destroying the stages and with different demos and studio works. We continue spreading our extreme metal in the whole metal community.
Dylan: Are there any main influences in your own history that made gave music the defined sound it has?
Beleth: I won’t say it’s about influences … I think it was the way and the decisions taken in the band. In 2007 Exo and me decided to conduct a large change in the line-up, we were alone. Both started seeking for a new formation and started working hard from zero. Composing new songs and keeping doing shows and tours. I think this change was the most important in the Noctem’s history.
Dylan: ‘Q’uma’rka’aa’j’ was my favourite song on the album, but do you have one of your own?
Beleth: Yes; this is a great instrumental song … I prefer “The arrival of the false gods” or “A borning winged snake”. I know that some other guy from the band may prefer the title track, “Drag me to Hell” or some other tune: for this reason I invite everyone to listen to our album and choose their own favourite track!
Dylan: Are there any plans in the near future for a tour?
Beleth: Yes, but I can’t talk too much about that at the moment, we will continue touring Europe and we are opening our ratio to another continents, soon we will announce more tours to spread our sick music.
Dylan: How would you describe what you bring to the stage and the environment?
Beleth: Our ambience is based in Black metal but we don’t use the typical clichés from this genre or anti-Christian and satanic symbolisms. We’re an absolute chaos on stage, a disease, a plague that devours the venue and captures the attention with an extreme sound and an aggressive show.

Dylan: Do you mix and master yourselves or do it separately through an outside source?
Beleth: We do all the studio work with the crew from UltraSound Studios and Daniel Cardoso in Portugal. For us it’s better to do everything with them. They are really good professionals, fast and productive as fucking hell. The band is very satisfied with their work.
Dylan: Can you tell me what equipment you use and if you have any endorsements?
Beleth: Yes, we use and abuse brands like Diezel, Engl, Ebs, Shure, etc… And we have the endorsement of Mayones Guitars, Liszko straps for guitars and basses, Saluda cymbals, New Rock boots and shoes and HVC Music Import. We’re very satisfied with our endorsements because we can use custom products, including the logo of the band, and that’s actually pretty cool.
Dylan: Can we have some links to your music, website, or any other source you can think of?
Beleth: Sure. We just released a new website this week, did by the great Jobert Mello from SledgeHammer Graphix (Brazil).

Dylan: Is there anything you would like to share?
Beleth: Everything said I guess! Thanks for your time Dylan and a big hug to all the people from MSF and all the readers. We hope to see you soon guys destroying the stages, drinking beers and enjoying extreme fucking metal!!! Horns up!!! Stay fucking brutal!!!
My final words: Noctem are in short an intense listening experience full of complexities and intruiguing phrasing which kindly defines them from anything else.
