Finnish melancholic dark metal forerunners AMORPHIS have set “Circle” as the title of their eleventh album, due on April 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. Production and mixing duties for the follow-up to 2011’s “The Beginning Of Times” were handled by HYPOCRISY and PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren, who has previously worked with such bands as CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, IMMORTAL and DIMMU BORGIR. The recordings took place at Petrax Studio (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI) in Hollola and 5K Studios in Helsinki.
A short summary about the album’s concept/story that spreads throught out the lyrics by Pekka Kainulainen, who wrote the lyrics for most recent AMORPHIS albums: “The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival.”
AMORPHIS singer Tomi Joutsen adds about the album title: “‘Circle’ represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men’s circle.”
Fan-filmed video footage of AMORPHIS performing a brand new song — tentatively titled “Mehtä” (English-language translation: “The Forest”) — on December 14, 2012 at Klubi in Turku, Finland can be seen below.
Regarding the band’s decision to perform a brand new track during their Finnish tour, Tomi said: “We just wanted to try how it worked, and it went [over] really well.
“We don’t want to play too many [new] songs, because people are recording [the shows with their phone cameras] and [posting] it on the Internet, and we don’t wanna spoil the album [for everyone].
“I was really nervous, of course, when we played it the first time, but it went over great. I think it’s gonna be an awesome live song.”
Regarding the direction of the new AMORPHIS material, the band’s guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen said: “While promoting ‘The Beginning Of Times’, we started to feel that we were giving the same explanations over and over again when people asked about the studio process and how the songs came about. Even though the music was very strong, the making process didn’t offer any surprises and appeared to be quite secured. Now the addition of a new dimension to the developing process has inspired us to focus on our material even more. The songs are extremely strong, bombastic and skull-pummelling.”
“The Beginning Of Times” entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 16 — the best chart position ever scored by an AMORPHIS album in that country. The CD also landed at position No. 1 on the Finnish chart.
Nuclear Blast Records have announced the following:
The Living Infinite, the ninth studio album and first dual-disc release by Swedish melodic metal maestros SOILWORK, will be unleashed on March 4th 2013.
Vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid comments: “So here’s the scoop. Me and the boys have been waiting to share this for quite some time now: The Living Infinite will be a double album. A real double album, in the true sense of the word, which means no fillers and no left-overs.
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and I proposed the idea to the rest of the guys in the band, during our festival tour last summer. Everybody liked the title The Living Infinite and also the idea of working towards the goal of releasing a double album. David Andersson was already playing with us last summer, so he has also been a part of this goal from the start. I feel very excited and proud that we’ve managed to find the inspiration and dedication it takes to create somewhat of a conceptual double album, especially since it’s dealing with a lot of existential questions.

San Francisco Bay Area metallers FORBIDDEN have “likely seen [their] last days as a recording band,” according to their guitarist, Craig Locicero. “[Drummer] Sasha [Horn] and [guitarist] Steve [Smyth] came through like champs last year when we had every intention to write and record our next record,” he continues. “We started working on some INSANELY cool stuff! But alas, real life stepped in. Matt [Camacho, bass] has retired from music and Russ [Anderson, vocals] simply has no fire or desire to do the work it takes to get back to relevancy. It is a tough road; ask DEATH ANGEL. But they committed to it and I commend them. Russ just does not have the fire at his stage of life. I must respect that.”
FORBIDDEN‘s latest album, “Omega Wave”, was released in Europe on October 22, 2010 and in North America on October 26, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD landed at position No. 27 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Locicero is currently focusing all his attention on SPIRALARMS, the San Francisco Bay Area-based heavy rock band also featuring Tim Narducci (ex-SYSTEMATIC) on vocals, Chris “Cornbread” Lombardo on bass, Brad Barth on keyboards, Anthony Traslavina on rhythm guitar and Ron Redeen (THE ESSENESS PROJECT) on drums.
SPIRALARMS‘ sophomore album, “Freedom”, will be released later in the year.
Nuclear Blast Records have announced the following:
“The Living Infinite“, the ninth studio album and first double album release by Swedish melodic death metal maestros SOILWORK, will be unleashed on February 27th in Asia (via license to Marquee Records), in Europe on March 1st, and in North America on March 5th.
Produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH), “The Living Infinite” features artwork by MNEMIC’s Mircea Gabriel Eftemie who shares:
“Seven years ago, I created the artwork for the “Stabbing The Drama”album and I can’t believe how time flies! Here we are, with sexy grey hairs, working with my friends in SOILWORK again. This time, we built the cover around a maritime concept, aiming for something direct and symbolic. I believe we achieved that quite well. From my creative deck, I salute you and say: Long Live “The Living Infinite”.”
SOILWORK states: “After commissioning some pretty elaborate covers for the last couple of records, we decided to try something more sober and design-oriented for The Living Infinite. Who better to call than the man who created the iconic “Stabbing The Drama” cover? Mircea Gabriel Eftemie is not only a close friend but also an incredible graphic designer. We’re all stoked about his work which is different from anything SOILWORK has ever done and perfectly suits the elegant oceanic concept of “The Living Infinite”. Enjoy folks!”

Nuclear Blast announces that the swedish Heavy Metal bloodbrothers of ENFORCER recently signed a new worldwide record deal with Nuclear Blast Records. Their new album is called „Death By Fire“ and will be released on February, 1st.
Bandleader, vocalist and guitar player Olof Wikstrand comments: „It feels great to finally have finished this long awaited third ENFORCER record. Now with Nuclear Blast on board we’re gonna make sure to spread it to every corner of this planet. You can expect nothing but the total, self defining ENFORCER record.“
Nuclear Blast head of A&R, Andy Siry says: „ We’ve been following the career of ENFORCER since their debut album, because from there on, they formed the spearhead of a new, young generation of traditionally influenced metal. We’re impressed by the bands consequent and authentic appearance, whether on stage, concerning their sound, their image and so on. This reminds of the atmosphere of departure and the rebellion, heavy metal represented at the beginning of the 80’s. ENFORCER have got that special something, represent their ideals and they know what they want. We’re looking forward to the upcoming CD and a long successful cooperation.”
