Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of SHINING BLACK‘s self titled debut album on July 10, 2020! SHINING BLACK is a new band featuring vocalist Mark Boals and guitarist Olaf Thorsen.

Shining Black is a new band featuring vocalist Mark Boals (Yngwie Malmsteen, Ring Of Fire, Royal Hunt) and guitarist Ölaf Thorsen (Labyrinth, Vision Divine). Their self-titled debut showcases cutting edge melodic metal songwriting techniques from Thorsen combined with the outstanding vocal abilities of Boals.

The roots of this new metal collaboration go back to the year 2014 when the Italian power/progressive metal band Labyrinth was faced with the dilemma of moving forward without their long-time singer Roberto Tiranti. After much consideration, the band chose to work with none other than Mark Boals and started to work on new songs which would have been released on the band’s next album; however, the busy schedule kept by Mark did not fit in with the recording plans the band had at the time. Therefore, Labyrinth after some years on hiatus went ahead with a new record (“Architecture of a God”) once again with Tiranti.

Despite not getting to work together, Mark and Ölaf remained in touch and when the occasion arose, by suggestion from Frontiers, the two artists took the opportunity to work together. Thus the Shining Black project was born. All in all, this is a fabulous melodic metal record which the Frontiers label is beyond proud to present to all the discerning metal fans out there!

Prime movers of the Italian Power Metal scene, DRAKKAR have completed work on their fifth album, titled “Run With The Wolf” set for release on March 16th on My Kingdom Music.

It’s once again an epic journey, a perfect mixture of Power and traditional Metal that will have you sing along from start to finish! AVELION: Announce New Line Up, New Single “Falling Down” Available, Feat. Olaf Thorsen

Italian AVELION has checked in with the following update:

Avelion welcomes bassist Mark “Satir” Reggiani into the band with new guitarist Gianmarco Soldi and new drummer Damiano Gualtieri, substituting for Alessio Massimo who has decided to step away from the band.

“We are very excited about the new material” says vocalist William “Haarp” Verderi “The new line up has created an intensive and killer mix of metal sound and the collaborations with our friend Olaf Thorsen (Vision Divine, Labyrith) makes the single Falling Down as a bridge between progressive power metal and our genre NexTo Metal”.

“In the last year we have focused our attention on the research of a modern sound” says the keyboardist Oreste Giacomini.

The Prime mover heavy metal band VANEXA is proud to announce the entrance of Pier Gonella as a guitarist. Pier is a very skilled metal guitarist who can already boast a long career, and who still has major projects with Necrodeath and Mastercastle. He joins Roberto Tiranti (vocals) who had the opportunity to share the stage with when Pier entered Labyrinth replacing Olaf Thorsen.

OLAF THORSEN is an Italian guitarist and founding member of the progressive power metal bands VISION DIVINE and LABYRINTH. Metalshock Finland‘s Tarja had a chance to interview this incredible guitar speed-shredder, just one day before the release of VISION DIVINE‘s new album “Destination set to nowhere”. We were talking about Olaf’s musical background and of course about the new album. Please join our conversation…

1. Hi Olaf, thanks for this chance to interview you! how are you doing today?

Hi Tarja, I’m really busy as usual in these days, but really fine, thanks!

2. A curious question. Your name’s Carlo Andrea, but everybody knows you by your stage name, Olaf Thorsen. Why this choice?

Loooong story, I’d prefer not to stay here telling you the whole thing, as it would take 1 hour. Let´s simplify, explaining you that in Italy it´s complicated, for the SIAE, to use your stage name when you deposit the copyrights, and as I´m a lazy guy allergic to the italian bureaucracy, I never cared too much about signing my songs with my real name.

3. I know the 2012 has been a busy year for you. Tell me the most important event/s of it, so far?

Mmm let me think: maybe the release of our new Vision Divine album “Destination set to nowhere” ? ahah!

4. Your musical career is long and very convincing (of which I congratulate you!), you’ve played all over the world and with many great musicians. Which has been the most unforgettable act/s, so far?

Thanks a lot! Unfortunately, I will answer your question completely only once I´ll have the chance of sharing the stage with my all time fave band, which is Fates Warning. It may sound strange, but I’ve played with almost every known band but Them! So far, I think Iron Maiden have been an incredible act, and most of all they shown to be really down to earth people, which made me appreciate them even more.
