PATRIARCHS IN BLACK have released a new single ‘The Ocean’.
Following the release of their critically acclaimed studio album ‘Home’ last August, PATRIARCHS IN BLACK present their brand new cover version of the Led Zeppelin classic ‘The Ocean’.
With this, the band not only pays homage to one of their greatest idols, but also celebrates the birthdays of both PIB guitarist Dan Lorenzo and Jimmy Page.
In 2023, PATRIARCHS IN BLACK even received a Grammy nomination for their cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Friends.’
‘The Ocean’ was recorded by Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative) on drums, Dan Lorenzo (Hades / Non-Fiction) on guitars and guest vocalist Mark Sunshine (Unida).
Patriarchs In Black have a lot going on. I’ve written/recorded the music to nine NEW songs since the release of our 4th album “Home”. January 9th we have The Ocean (Led Zep) cover coming out digitally. I’m on guitar, Johnny Kelly on drums as always. Guest vox by Mark Sunshine and guest bass by Eric J. Morgan. Then Feb 5th we release a new single called Left Behind with guest vocalist Daniel Soren. I’ve seriously been trying to get a hold of Mr. Soren for years since I heard Sixty Watt Shaman’s debut track ‘Fear Death By Water’.

Dan continues: Then Feb 13th all the covers we have recorded will be on vinyl, thanks to No Life ‘Til Metal Records. “Completely Covered In Black” includes our never before released cover of Kiss Strange Ways (Rob Dukes Exodus on vox), Hotter Than Hell plus Supertzar by Black Sabbath which might be my favorite cover we’ve done.
PATRIARCHS IN BLACK release new single ‘I’m Coming Home’ with official music video.
Dan Lorenzo says about the song : ‘I’m Coming Home’ is a 12-bar blues song that I wrote. People might think it’s easy to write a 12 bar Blue song but in all honesty you have to do something to make it original and unique because it’s been done so many times before. I think I accomplish that if I may say so myself. Frankie Diaz is back on vocals. I really wanted this song to be on ‘Home’ but we didn’t have enough room. Of course it’s Johnny Kelly on drums and his buddy Sal is on bass. This is the first PATRIARCHS IN BLACK song with Harmonica and I hope people dig it.
PATRIARCHS IN BLACK release “Ready To Die”, the third pre-release single from the upcoming studio album ‘Home’ (out August 15th on Metalville).
Singer Kelly Abe says about the song : “We all have our cross to bear. For some, that involves brushes with death. And for some, the difference between life and death is one’s willingness to acknowledge their shortcomings. For me, to persevere in spite of them, I truly felt I had to be ready to die.”
Former Type O Negative/Danzig drummer Johnny Kelly and guitarist and riff writer Dan Lorenzo (Hades/Non-Fiction) founded PATRIARCHS IN BLACK at the end of 2021. Their debut single ‘Demon of Regret’ was released in January 2022 and the full album ‘Reach For The Scars’ was released in July 2022. Their second album ‘My Veneration’ was released in October 2023, followed by ‘Visioning’ in July 2024.
As with their previous releases, Dan and Johnny managed to secure some outstanding artists as guest musicians for their 4th longplayer ‘Home’.
Dan Lorenzo says about “Home”: “Did you ever see the movie Groundhog Day? Bill Murray is forced to live the same dayover-and-over. How boring, right? I love pizza, but I don’t want to eat it every meal. With our new albumyou will find our “usual” doomy riffs, but we also took some chances. There’s acoustic guitars, violin,flute and of course lots of heavy riffs. Diversity. It keeps things interesting.
I picked the title “Home” because as much as I love to travel, it’s always nice to come home.Johnny’s mom died last year. Some would say the Lord took her Home.Johnny and I recorded 17 new songs, but we couldn’t fit them all on this album. We are honored that some of the best vocalists and bassists worked with us to lend their talents. We hope you love PATRIARCHS IN BLACK “Home”.”

PATRIARCHS IN BLACK release “Celestial Yard”, the second pre-release single from the upcoming studio album ‘Home’ (out August 15th on Metalville).
Dan Lorenzo says about the song : “About a year ago, Mark Sunshine asked me to write something on acoustic guitar for him. I believe that night I came up with the opening notes to what became “Celestial Yard”. I finished the guitar parts a few days later and sent it off to Mark. Johhny Kelly played drums on it and Emma Smoler added violin. I love what everybody came up with, but I’m still blown away by Sunshine’s melody, lyrics and vocals. Yes, I know, we’re supposed to be a “heavy” band and this is mellow. I think it’s myfavorite song on the album. This is a crushing yet nuanced emotional heaviness, immersed in a beautiful musical array.”

Dan Lorenzo explains about “The Call”: “Last summer I was driving in my car and a riffpopped into my head. I got home and went upstairs to my loftand figured it out and quickly finished the rest of the music. Johnny Kelly recorded the drums and I asked John JD Deservio fromBlack Label Society to play bass guitar. I had my own melody, butKarl Agell ( COC Blind) told me to give him some time. Hehad lyrics and melody brewing. It took him a few months to send usthe vocals, but the wait was worth it!We are very proud “The Call” is our first single for the new album.”
