PINK FLOYD: New Album “The Endless River” Details Announced

One of the most influential rock bands of all time, PINK FLOYD are set to release a new album titled “The Endless River” on 10th November 2014, which will be their first album in 20 years.

The album is available to pre-order on CD, double vinyl and as a deluxe set. More information about the album is available on the band’s official website. Here follows some insight into “The Endless River”:

The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions, when David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason played freely together at Britannia Row and Astoria studios.  This was the first time they had done so since the ‘Wish You Were Here’ sessions in the seventies.  Those sessions resulted in The Division Bell, the band’s last studio album.
 
In 2013 David Gilmour and Nick Mason revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire.  It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together.  The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music,using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River.
 
The Endless River is a tribute to Rick Wright, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, ‘Louder Than Words’, (with new lyrics by Polly Samson), arranged across four sides and produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and
Andy Jackson.

PINK FLOYD: Set To Release First New Record In 21 Years

PINK FLOYD are to release a new album in October, according to Dave Gilmour‘s wife and as reported by Classicrockmagazine.

Polly Samson says via Twitter that the record – called “The Endless River” – features work by the late Floyd keyboard player and multi instrumentalist Rick Wright.

Her tweet reads: “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called The Endless River. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.”

In May, Samson – who contributed lyrics to Floyd‘s last album “The Division Bell” – posted a picture of Gilmour in the studio and it was assumed he was working on a new solo album.
It turns out he was at work on Pink Floyd‘s 15th record and first since “The Division Bell” in 1994.

Also in the picture was long-time Floyd and Gilmour collaborator, vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, who reposted the photo on Facebook and says: “Remember this photo? It wasn’t what you thought it was. Yes there is a new Pink Floyd album coming out. And I’m on it. And there was much rejoicing.”

Rick Wright died in 2008 from cancer at the age of 65.

Man Accused Of Posing As RUSH, PINK FLOYD Legends Charged With Fraud

According to Thespectrum.com, a Minnesota man accused of defrauding Dixie Regional Medical Center of services by pretending to be 1970s-era rockers failed to make his initial appearance Tuesday in 5th District Court.

Phillip Michael Schaeffer, 54, of Monticello, Minn., is charged with two counts of communications fraud stemming from visits to the hospital in 2011, 2012 and 2013 in which he allegedly first pretended to be 60-year-old Canadian RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson and then 67-year-old English PINK FLOYD guitarist and singer David Gilmour.

An investigative report filed with the court states a man claiming to be Lifeson incurred $23,328.27 in hospital bills shortly before Christmas in 2011 and left the hospital against medical advice after an overnight stay.
In November 2012 and February 2013, the same man allegedly returned for services, racking up more than $15,000 in bills and then more than $34,000 in bills under Gilmour’s name, leaving after a night’s stay each time against medical advice.

According to Bravewords.com, On Tuesday, October 1st, The Gathering Storm – The Album Art Of Storm Thorgerson will be released by StormStudios and De Milo.

Storm Thorgerson wrote and compiled this book over the last year of his life, and it covers his entire career in album cover design from the 1960s and his days with Hipgnosis through to StormStudios, and includes his artwork for PINK FLOYD, LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH, PETER GABRIEL, 10CC, AUDIOSLAVE, GENESIS, RAINBOW, STEVE MILLER and MUSE amongst others.

The Gathering Storm – The Album Art Of Storm Thorgerson features 256 pages and according to Pink Floyd, “Storm managed to see, and approve, a finished copy a few days before he died – working right until his untimely and sad passing.”

Man Pretending To Be PINK FLOYD’s David Gilmour Jailed For $100,000 In Unpaid Hospital Bills

According to the Associated Press & Billboard, a man is accused of pretending to be a member of rock band PINK FLOYD at a Minnesota hospital – and racking up as much as $100,000 in unpaid medical bills.

Police say the 53-year-old Monticello man went to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment April 20. He claimed he was Pink Floyd singer/guitarist David Gilmour and that he didn’t have health insurance.

He was treated and released, but not before signing an autograph.

The St. Cloud Times says hospital security was suspicious about the man’s identity and his medical records were flagged. The man returned for more treatment several days later and, confronted by police, admitted he wasn’t Gilmour.

The man was booked into the Stearns County Jail on a possible charge of theft by swindle.

According to Telegraph.co.uk, Storm Thorgerson, the artist who over an illustrious 40 year career was responsible for artwork for bands and musicians including PINK FLOYD, LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH and ANTHRAX among countless others, died peacefully today (April 18th) after a battle with cancer at the age of 69.
A statement issued by his management tonight said: “His ending was peaceful and he was surrounded by family and friends. He had been ill for some time with cancer though he had made a remarkable recovery from his stroke in 2003.”

A statement from PINK FLOYD added: “We are saddened by the news that long-time Pink Floyd graphic genius, friend and collaborator, Storm Thorgerson, has died. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends.”

Thorgerson was key member of the graphic art group Hipgnosis, and designed many of their most famous single and album covers, including PINK FLOYD‘s The Dark Side Of The Moon, which has been called one of the greatest album covers of all time.
