ALCEST Present Remixed Version Of Single ‘Protection’ By Chelsea Wolfe Collaborator Ben Chisholm

Last year, influential French “blackgaze” duo ALCEST released their sixth studio album ‘Spiritual Instinct’ through Nuclear Blast. Warmly-received by press and fans alike, the album scored the band their highest chart position in several countries, including Germany (#12) and Switzerland (#30).

Today, the band presents an alternate version of their haunting track ‘Protection‘, remixed by longtime CHELSEA WOLFE collaborator Ben Chisholm. The song was included alongside two other tracks on the bonus EP that was only available with deluxe versions of ‘Spiritual Instinct‘, but is now being made available digitally for the first time.

On the new single, founder Neige comments: “It was a real pleasure for us to have ‘Protection’ remixed by the multi-instrumentist and producer Ben Chisholm (known for being the close collaborator of CHELSEA WOLFE). His take on the song left us speechless as he gave it his very own style; a totally new sound, atmosphere and structure. We absolutely loved his approach.”

Next month, ALCEST will kick off their European tour in support of ‘Spiritual Instinct.‘ The 28 date headline run will be supported by French hardcore punks BIRDS IN ROW and the Icelandic synth-punk trio KÆLAN MIKLA.

ALCEST released yesterday their 6th studio album and Nuclear Blast debut “Spiritual Instinct” upon the world. To celebrate, the band has unveiled a studio documentary titled ‘La lumière autant que l’ombre‘, accompanied with the acoustic instrumental version of their new track ‘Protection’, which was recorded by Neige and can also be found exclusively as a bonus track on select versions of the album. Frontman Neige states, “We are happy to release ‘La lumière autant que l’ombre,’ the making-of »Spiritual Instinct,« filmed by the talented William Lacalmontie. William spent a lot of time with Benoît Roux and the band at Drudenhaus Studio in order to capture our moods, as well as glimpses from the long journey that was this recording process. Hope you guys will enjoy it.”

Recorded at French Drudenhaus Studio with Benoît Roux and written in bursts both during and after a prolonged period of touring in support of 2016’s hugely successful »Kodama,« the new and very cathartic album is leading the blackgaze pioneers into dark soundscapes. The artwork was once again designed by Førtifem.

To round off 2019, ALCEST will be playing a string of festival dates, before embarking on their recently announced, 28-date headline tour in support of »Spiritual Instinct« in February/March 2020, with support coming from BIRDS IN ROW and KÆLAN MIKLA. In addition, the first festival appearances for next year have already been confirmed. All dates can be found below!

On October 25th, ALCEST will once again open the gateways to the otherworldly and release their sixth studio album titled »Spiritual Instinct«. Recorded at the French Drudenhaus Studios and written in bursts both during and after a prolonged period of touring in support of 2016’s hugely successful »Kodama«, the new album – the first to be released via Nuclear Blast – will lead the blackgaze pioneers into dark soundscapes full of spiritual catharsis.

Today, the wait is over as singer/multi-instrumentalist Neige and drummer Winterhalter have revealed the first single ‘Protection’ from the band’s upcoming album.

Frontman Neige comments:
“‘Protection’ is the first track I wrote for »Spiritual Instinct«. It’s probably one of our most heavy, spontaneous songs. It is about inner conflict, the tension between the spiritual and darker sides of a person, facing your own anguishes in order to embrace them and then fight them. Like the other tracks on the album, writing it was a very cathartic, healing process for me.”

The music video for ‘Protection’ was filmed by director Craig Murray (Mogwai, Blood Red Shoes) and you can watch it here:
