Relapse Records have announced the signing of Australian atmospheric black metal quartet HOPE DRONE. Formed in Brisbane, Australia in 2011, Hope Drone (Karl Hartwig – guitar, Christopher Rowden – guitar/vocals, Francis Keil – drums, Aaron Pickersgill – bass/vocals) quickly made a name for themselves with their 2013 self-titled debut that was hailed by Cvlt Nation as “fresh, invigorating and captivating”, by Scene Point Blank as a record that “achieves on all fronts” and by Angry Metal Guy as “possibly the most devastatingly nihilistic recording I’ve ever heard, both instrumentally and lyrically.”
After supporting acts like Neurosis, Deafheaven, Caspian and Rosetta in Australia, the band recorded their sophomore record once again with engineer Christopher Brownbill. The yet-to-be-titled album will see it’s release via Relapse in the Spring of 2015.
Guitarist Karl Hartwig commented on the signing and the upcoming material:
“We’re stoked to be welcomed into the Relapse family and have our records released by the label that is responsible for some of our favourite releases. The record was recorded at the soon to be defuct Wavelength Studios with our engineer Christopher Brownbill. We really wanted to push ourselves with this record and spent much longer crafting songs with a greater dynamic and depth to them, both in terms of songwriting and how we approached capturing the songs. We aimed for a more live sounding recording that was still rich in atmosphere and I think we’ve achieved something that is a true reflection of how we sound live.”

Switzerland’s death/grind maniacs MUMAKIL have entered the studio to record their third full-length album for an early 2013 release via Relapse Records. The band’s first CD in four years is being produced by the bandmembers themselves at Terrier 5 in Geneva, Switzerland and will feature 24 brand new tracks of brutal grindcore with more of a death metal influence than their previous release, “Behold The Failure”. Tentative songtitles set to appear on the effort include “Death From Below”, “Hailing Regression”, “Designed To Fail” and “More Meat For The Grinder”.
Commented the band: “This will be our best album in terms of production, riff quality, variation and songwriting. It is going to be a great mix between everything we love in grindcore and death metal, with subjects like war, anger, pain, personal experiences and deceptions, and an overall theme about mankind’s permanent will to destroy itself.”
MUMAKIL plans to tour in Europe and Canada following the new album’s release. More details will be announced shortly.

Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of Swedish technical death metallers SPAWN OF POSSESSION.
SPAWN OF POSSESSION (Jonas Bryssling: guitar, Dennis Röndum: vocals, Erlend Casperson: bass, Henrik Schönström: drums, Christian Münzner: guitar) formed in 1997 and has previously released two full-length albums. The band’s latest album, Noctambulant, received international critical acclaim for its blend of musical chops and unfettered extremity. SPAWN OF POSSESSION is currently writing for its Relapse debut and long-awaited follow-up to Noctambulant to be released this fall.
SPAWN OF POSSESSION’s Bryssling commented on the signing and upcoming release: “We are very exited to have become part of the Relapse family and their amazing roster. The new album will contain nine tracks plus an instrumental intro which we’ll be recording throughout the summer starting in June. Once again we’ll be teaming up with producer Mankan Sedenberg at Pama Studios in Sweden. Right now we’re prepping the recording and straightening out the last details of the material. More good news is on the way so keep your eyes open for a brand new Spawn of Possession website which will be launched soon. As usual we like to keep what is coming under wraps, but rest assured this record will be quite a slab of imaginative brutality for you guys to sink your teeth into.”
