RED FANG, who release Only Ghosts tomorrow via Relapse Records, are now streaming the 10-song album in full (https://soundcloud.com/relapserecords/sets/red-fang-only-ghosts) following a week of song premieres via The Wall Street Journal, Nerdist, Loudwire, Relix and Kerrang. You can also stream the album via Metal Hammer / Team Rock HERE.
The band, currently touring Europe , have also unveiled a 16-bit video game that can be found at www.relapse.com/fangtris. Fangtris is a twist on the classic Tetris game, inviting players to stack the band’s gear on stage before the show starts.
Only Ghosts was recorded earlier this year at Ross Robinson’s Venice, Calif. studio, with Robinson (At The Drive-In, The Cure, Slipknot) handling production and Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Melvins) mixing the album. The band said of the experience, “Working with Ross and Joe on this record was a huge leap forward for us. The process was very challenging and rewarding, and I think we’re a better band for it. This album expresses exactly where we’re at. We’re super proud of it!”
Early reviews of the album affirm the sparkling results of the production partnership, with Nerdist dubbing Only Ghosts a “supremely excellent new album” while Metal Sucks offered, “…with Only Ghosts, they’ve delivered their freshest set of jams yet. On this new album, Red Fang are executing their songwriting at a deadly precision: their melodies are hookier, their compositions perfectly tweaked, their dual-throaty-vocal layers reaching an artful tier not really seen in the genre since Blood Mountain.”
In the week’s leading up to Only Ghosts’ release, the Portland-based rock band have also created a tremendously clever video about wronged comic book collectors seeking Predator-style vengeance (“Shadows”: https://youtu.be/cnhCxVy5pfs), partnered with Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a tour-only blend dubbed “The Deep” after the song of the same name, and lent their music to Pabst Blue Ribbon’s retro pinball machine, The Can Crusher.

Heavy music hub Loudwire has just shared a new version of an old DEATH favorite – ‘Baptized In Blood,’ taken from the forthcoming reissue of “Scream Bloody Gore” (out May 20th via Relapse). Loudwire commented on the newly revamped song,
“From the first note, the remastered presence is immediately felt with a more lumbering bass tone brought up in the mix. Warmer guitar tones come into play as well, still emanating the same eerie effects that were first heard nearly three decades ago. Chuck Schuldiner positively shreds his throat with a spirit-crushing, piercing shriek over the plodding cords and with reckless abandon, Chris Reifert (Autopsy) man-handles the song with manic tempo swings.”
The remastered version of “Zombie Ritual” can also be streamed here:
As the final chapter in Relapse’s comprehensive DEATH reissue series, the band’s legendary 1987 debut “Scream Bloody Gore” is receiving the deluxe reissue treatment on a wide variety of formats including 2CD, Limited Edition 3CD, LP, Deluxe 2xLP Boxset, and cassette versions. Like the preceding DEATH reissues, the deluxe reissue of “Scream Bloody Gore” has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes by Alan Douches (Death, Mastodon, Nile) and includes a plethora of bonus content, including previously unreleased recordings and rehearsal demos, super-expanded packaging, and brand-new extensive liner notes from former DEATH drummer / Autopsy founder Chris Reifert, Sepultura’s Max Cavalera, and original “Scream Bloody Gore” producer Randy Burns.
Physical pre-orders are available now via Relapse.com here. Digital pre-orders can be found via DEATH‘s Bandcamp page here.
Along with the deluxe reissue of “Scream Bloody Gore”, Relapse has also announced the very first official DEATH bobblehead, a stunning recreation of Ed Repka’s iconic “Scream Bloody Gore” album art! Made exclusively for Relapse Records by AGGRONAUTIX, a company creating limited-edition metal, punk, and cult figures, these collectible, high-quality resin figurines stand 7″ tall, are hand numbered 1 to 1,000, and come packaged in a custom windowed box. Info/Bio:
Over the course of more than a decade and seven increasingly accomplished albums, Chuck Schuldiner, the architect behind the ubiquitous DEATH, became a bona fide heavy metal icon. Now widely recognized as the father of death metal (if a single candidate must be chosen, his résumé is about as good as it gets), Schuldiner‘s singular drive and ruthless creative vision guaranteed that DEATH would ever represent the cutting edge of the style’s development. Indeed, while the savagely raw aggression contained in DEATH‘s first three albums proved crucial to spearheading the first generation of death metal bands, the astounding musicianship and increasingly sophisticated songwriting found on their later-day efforts surely influenced even more groups to explore the limits of extreme metal’s most progressive outposts. By all accounts a force to be reckoned with on-stage, DEATH also logged more frequent flier miles than perhaps any other band of their ilk, undertaking numerous far-reaching tours despite suffering from continuous and often acrimonious musician turnover within their ranks. Throughout this long journey and drastic evolutionary curve, Schuldiner was to be the only constant, the effective mastermind behind DEATH‘s continually groundbreaking career, and, as proven by his near-canonization at the time of his untimely passing, arguably unequalled in stature within one of rock’s most uncompromising style.

With the imminent surge of LOCRIAN‘s punishing “Infinite Dissolution” LP set to inundate the human population via Relapse Records in just two weeks, another distressing single from the record has been premiered via Steel For Brains with ‘Arc Of Extinction’ now playing alongside an intense interrogation of the band.
Amidst their nearly two-dozen releases over the past decade, “Infinite Dissolution” will mark LOCRIAN‘s second album for Relapse, during the band’s celebration of its tenth anniversary this year. Recorded at Steve Albini-owned/operated Electrical Audio in Chicago, produced by Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian Circles), mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Yob, Integrity, Sleep), and with artwork based on a massive installation by sculptor David Altmejd, “Infinite Dissolution” is a nearly fifty-minute-long concept album dealing with the struggle of human extinction; a seamless and harrowing blend of dark ambiance, drone, black metal, post-rock, and power electronics. Steel For Brains interrogated the members of LOCRIAN, the interview now seeing publication alongside the premiere of the awakening album opener ‘Arc Of Extinction,’ which sets the stage for “Infinite Dissolution”‘s mesmerizing broadcast of our planet’s ecosystems through the band’s most intense palette of post-industrial/blackened cinematic sorcery to date.
Previously released singles from “Infinite Dissolution” include Noisey’s premiere of ‘Heavy Water’ at this location and the three-part ‘An Index Of Air’ streaming via Soundcloud here.
In addition to LOCRIAN‘s Midwestern shows in Detroit and Chicago on July 17th and 18th, the band has just confirmed a leg of West Coast US tour dates in August in support of “Infinite Dissolution”. From August 16th through the 22nd the band will flood the western half of the country with their demoralizing auditory fabrications, with shows in Boise, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento confirmed, and at least four more dates being added to this itinerary in the next few days. Special tenth anniversary performance plans are coming together for this Fall, which will be followed by a European tour in early 2016.
“Infinite Dissolution” will see its release on July 24th, 2015 on CD, vinyl and digital formats.

2. Dark Shales
3. KXL I
4. The Future of Death
