MORE ABOUT THE “HISTORY ROCKS” PROJECT Launched on June 12, 2023, “History Rocks” was developed to assist museums across the globe with gaining visibility and garnering support from a new and untapped audience of heavy metal fans. Ensuring museums are coping in a somewhat challenging climate is a personal mission of each band member.
Elaborating on this, Pär declares: “I’ve spoken to multiple museums who have expressed that they are struggling because of a decrease in footfall. This news did not sit right with us, and as a band, we felt that we needed to do something. That’s where “The War To End All Wars – The Movie” came into the picture and how we developed this unusual idea, that I’m not sure has been done before. Our mission is to reignite peoples’ interest in visiting these incredible treasure troves of history and truly connect with the happenings of the past.”
Upon launch of this project, SABATON reached out to their international followers, encouraging them to suggest their local museums. They were astonished to receive thousands upon thousands of suggestions from people spanning the globe. All suggestions were submitted via the official “The War To End All Movies – The Movie” website.

MORE ABOUT “THE WAR TO END ALL WARS – THE MOVIE” Following years of hard work and research, the Swedish heavy metal band has created “The War To End All Wars – The Movie” in partnership with Yarnhub, an animation studio focused on historical content. This is a 67-minute long animated musical motion picture which is being released in English but will be made available with subtitles in a number of languages to cater to audiences around the world.
The film vividly tells the World War 1 tales from Sabaton’s most recent studio album, The War To End All Wars – The Movie. Referring to the movie, Lora Vogt, National, Vice President of Education and Interpretation, from the WWI Museum and Memorial (Kansas, US) declares: “Certainly, there is artistic licence taken in the movie, but what I found so extraordinary was the team’s choice of stories. What a wonderful vehicle Sabaton has made to show the diversity of individuals and engagements of the war. Really fantastic! We look forward to sharing it with our audiences.”
“History Rocks” is a charity initiative that aims to raise awareness on the importance of history and encourage more people to visit their local museums.
SABATON stated: “We are beyond excited to be finally unveiling this after tons of hard work, planning and sleepless nights! “The War To End All Wars – The Movie” will mark its global premiere in museums in the 2 weeks surrounding November 11, 2023 (Armistice Day), as part of our never-been-done-before “History Rocks” project!
Yes, we are partnering with museums across the globe and it’s a dream come true for us. We’ve created a way to inspire you guys to support your local museums and a way for us to shed light on the importance of history education. We feel this is the most meaningful way to premiere our movie.”
Pär said: “Sabaton and museums often go hand in hand – we just have different tools to tell history. With the launch of this new project, the museums will have another tool.”

SABATON‘s last EP in the Echoes Of The Great War EP trilogy entitled Stories From The Western Front is now officially available on all platforms and features a never-heard-before cover of Motörhead’s well known track, ‘1916’.
In celebration of this final EP, the band has also unleashed a brand new music video for ‘1916’ filmed in Birmingham and at the famous Black Country Living Museum. The music video features an overload of historical characters from the SABATON lore, a headbanging metal army from Birmingham and even a cameo from the living members of Motörhead, Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell.
The Western Front was one of World War I’s main theatres of conflict. It stretched across more than 400 miles through France and Belgium from the Swiss border to the North Sea. It was a deadly place, and to put things into perspective, at least 4 million men died there, although the true figure can never be confirmed.
The Stories From The Western Front EP tells stories of those who fought and fell on the Western Front, a place where the trenches and the ceaseless shelling drove men to insanity. Often those who returned from this treacherous place did so with shell shock and chronic nightmares, PTSD or injuries that changed their lives forever.
“We are excited to release the last EP in the “Echoes Of The Great War” series as well as a new music video, which we had a blast filming in the UK. Our new EP tells the tales that came from the Western Front, a brutal and unforgiving theatre of war. The Battle of Verdun, which was the longest battle of the First World War, the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 in Flanders, the Battle of the Somme… these are all things we should not forget. And through this EP – in fact, through this whole EP collection – our sole mission has been to immortalise these stories and ensure that these are at the forefront of everyone’s minds,” explains Pär Sundstrom.
“Speaking of the Battle of the Somme, this conflict resulted in a huge loss of human life – around 300,000 fatalities. It was one of the bloodiest and deadliest conflicts of WW1 – and in human history! This is what “1916” was written about and that’s why it was the missing puzzle piece of this EP,” Pär adds.
Meanwhile, Joakim Brodén shares more information of the band’s cover of Motörhead: “We believed that “1916” was the perfect fit for this EP, not only because it’s related to the First World War, but because we just love everything about the song. Lemmy was inspired to write this track after watching a documentary about the Battle of the Somme. The lyrics are emotionally charged and perfectly describe the experiences of all the young soldiers, most of whom were just kids essentially. A lyric that really moves me and hits home is: ‘We were food for the gun, and that’s what you are when you’re soldiers’. I can’t get that out of my head.”
“We think we did this song justice. It’s our tribute to one of the greatest bands in the world and a nod to those who fought in the First World War and made the ultimate sacrifice!” he notes.
With each EP in the Echoes Of The Great War trilogy, SABATON are releasing an exclusive digipak in limited numbers. They often sell out immediately, so if you want one for your collection, be quick!

SABATON climbed the international charts with their album The War To End All Wars, securing #1 positions in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Hungary and Finland. Having achieved the top position for the second time in Germany, Sweden and Finland, the album peaked at #1 in Poland, Hungary and Austria for the first time in the band’s career. This and additional outstanding results in other territories have made The War To End All Wars SABATON’S most successful album so far.
Following the successful launch of the Weapons Of The Modern Age EP on September 30, 2022, SABATON are excited to announce that Heroes Of The Great War, their second EP of the Echoes Of The Great War EP trilogy, is now available and features a never-heard-before track entitled ‘The First Soldier’.
The brand new Heroes Of The Great War EP focuses on some of the boldest, most courageous heroes of World War I. For SABATON, these are people whose stories need to be told and whose narratives truly resonate with the band on a personal level.
Remarking on the concept of the new EP, PärSundstrom says: “Those involved in conflict and war push themselves beyond their limits, both physically and psychologically, and often achieve extraordinary things. They have no choice but to be brave and have no option but to do everything they can to protect what they are fighting for. Humans are programmed for survival, and some of these heroes’ tales that we write about are jaw dropping. This EP is our tribute to them and our way of ensuring that these stories are not forgotten and get the recognition they deserve.”
Referring to the new track, ‘The First Soldier’, Pär adds: “We are really excited to be releasing a new song with this EP and we are eager to see how people respond to the incredible story behind it. The song is about AlbertSeverin Roche, a World War I hero who believed he was destined for great things. And despite the doubts of his peers and the odds being stacked against him, he achieved the unbelievable.”
Albert Severin Roche was born in France and his father was a farmer. Roche signed up for the French Army at the age of 18. To his very core, he knew he was destined for great things, but standing only 1.58-metres tall, he wasn’t what the army was looking for, and he was rejected. Despite this, he eventually managed to enlist and was assigned to the 30thBattalion of Chasseurs. To begin with, Albert was not a model recruit and his fellow recruits and officers did not respect him. A fighter at heart with a fire for war burning inside him, he proved them all wrong. He was assigned to the 27th Battalion of Chasseurs Alpins (known by the Germans as “Blue Devil”) and became known as The First Soldier of France for his heroism and his successful missions.
By the end of WW1, Albert had been wounded 9 times and had captured over 1,180 prisoners.
Joakim Broden says: “It’s amazing to hear these World War I stories about how individuals who are often doubted and looked down on end up becoming some of the most celebrated and respected heroes in military history. The story of “The First Soldier” is a lesson to never judge a book by its cover. People are capable of incredible things, and Albert Severin Roche’s determination and heroism are admirable. We hope people feel the same way we felt when we first heard his story.”

Stories From The Western Front The third EP in the series, Stories From The Western Front, features songs about some of the most gripping tales from one of World War I’s main theatres of war. These stories, some of which are unimaginable in this day and age, depict the chaos, danger and instability soldiers faced on the daily, who were fighting in the name of their countries. The three new EP releases will be available on all major digital music services.

In the spirit of Christmas, Swedish metallers, SABATON, are unveiling their brand new Christmas Truce Popup vinyl to ring in the festive season.
Now available for preorder, this collectible popup vinyl pays tribute to the band’s popular track ‘Christmas Truce’ from the album The War To End All Wars. The vinyl features 3 variations of the song, including the Symphonic version, which is featured on SABATON’s The Symphony To End All Wars. It will be officially released on December 23, 2022.
SIDE A: Christmas Truce Christmas Truce (Radio Edit)
SIDE B: Christmas Truce (Symphonic Version)
Collectors are going to want to get their hands on this special release as the record itself features a camo pattern on Side A and a festive design with a very prominent SABATON logo on Side B. But the real magic lies in the gatefold packaging. A unique display of a vibrant Christmas Tree surrounded by soldiers of opposing sides standing united pops up when opening the vinyl.
SABATON bassist Pär Sundström commented: “We really hold our song Christmas Truce close to our hearts as it’s a great story. We see arenas shine when we play it at our shows, and it really brings people together. This is a song about peace, and we felt that it needed a special design. We hope our fans enjoy it and that our song Christmas Truce becomes part of the Sabaton live set for a long time to come.”
Explaining the story behind the song, Sundström said: “During the first Christmas of the First World War, unofficial ceasefires were enforced across the Western Front that saw soldiers who should have been mortal enemies unite. The soldiers socialised, played games, sang Christmas carols in unison and even exchanged gifts like any normal group of people would – the only difference was that they were supposed to be fighting each other. It was a short but sweet respite from the horrors and stress that they endured daily on the battlefield. It ended abruptly but meant so much to these men.”
