After evoking memories of their glorious live shows in Wacken and Prague with their DVD” The Great Show/The 20th Anniversary Show” almost two weeks ago, SABATON unleash another beast hailing their impressive concerts: From today on, “The Great Show”, the Swedish metal heroes’ triumphant Arena performance in Prague, is available on all DSPs, at this location.
Physical editions of SABATON‘s limited-edition, live-in-concert, double DVD/Blu-Ray, “The Great Show,” “The 20th Anniversary Show,” plus “The Great Show Stage Collector’s Edition” box set are in stores and available online: https://sabat.one/TheGreatShow
“The Great Show” with a run-time of about 90-minutes, was shot at the band’s sold-out O2 Arena performance in Prague in early 2020 and reunited SABATON with Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rockers Apocalyptica. Both discs’ setlists feature SABATON fan-favorites including ‘Ghost Division,’ ‘Bismarck,’ ‘To Hell and Back,’ ‘Primo Victoria,’ ‘Carolus Rex,’ ‘Great War,’ and ‘Fields Of Verdun’. The set was performed on a stage setting forged as a World War 1 battlefield, with barbed-wire strung across the stage, piles of sandbag barricades, a two-ton military tank complete with a battery of rocket launchers and flame jets that doubles as a drum riser, and a keyboard built into the body of The Red Baron’s iconic blood-red tri-plane.

Filmed during SABATON’s 2019-2020 “The Great Tour” world trek, the two-hour “20th Anniversary Show” captures the band’s extraordinary headline set in front of 75,000 fans at the 2019 Wacken Open Air Festival, performed on both of the festival’s Main Stages simultaneously. Joining the SABATON line-up of vocalist Joakim Brodén, bassist Pär Sundström, guitarists Chris Rörland and Tommy Johansson, drummer Hannes Van Dahl, the Wacken performance also features several guest performers: former SABATON band members Thobbe Englund and Rikard Sundén on guitars, keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr, and drummer Daniel Mulback, the 20-voice Great War Choir, and acclaimed GRAMMY-nominated virtuoso cellist Tina Guo.
Both “The 20th Anniversary Show” and “The Great Show” discs capture the musically and visually electrifying in-concert experience that is a SABATON show, and are a must for anyone who is a fan of passionate, cinematic heavy rock’n’roll.
Multi-Platinum Swedish metal band SABATON today announces the limited-edition, live-in-concert, double-DVD/Blu-Ray, “The Great Show,” and “The 20th Anniversary Show,”both set for release on November 19 (Nuclear Blast). Both titles were filmed during the band’s 2019-2020 “The Great Tour“ world trek, and both feature special guest performers. Track listings are below; pre-orders begin today and can be placed here: https://sabat.one/TheGreatShow
“The 20th Anniversary Show” (watch trailer) is comprised of SABATON’s jaw-dropping, two-hour headline concert filmed in front of 75,000 fans at Germany’s Wacken Open Air Festival – coincidentally, celebrating its 30th anniversary – on August 1, 2019. “The Great Show”, with a running time of about 90-minutes, was recorded at SABATON’s sold-out performance at the O2 Arena in Prague on January 26, 2020. With two varied setlists chosen from the band’s extensive catalog, “The Great Show” and the “20th Anniversary Show”, limited to 9000 copies each, will be available as individual purchases or bundled together as “The Great Show Stage Collector’s Edition” box set (limited to 5000 copies), that includes a building bricks version of the Sabaton stage so fans can build their own stages.
For the greater part of the Wacken concert, SABATON commandeered the festival’s two main stages, the side-by-side-and-connected Faster and Harder Stages, becoming the first artist in Wacken’s 30-year history to utilize both stages simultaneously in this way. Vocalist Joakim Brodén, guitarists Chris Rörland and Tommy Johansson, drummer Hannes Van Dahl, and the 20-voice Great War Choir, fitted out in a variety of military uniforms, performed on the Faster Stage. At the same time on the Harder Stage, bassist Pär Sundström welcomed back previous Sabaton members Thobbe Englund and Rikard Sundén/guitars, Daniel Mÿhr/keyboards, and Daniel Mulback/drums – all nine musicians, plus the choir, giving an intense and impassioned en masse performance. SABATON was also joined by the internationally acclaimed GRAMMY-nominated virtuoso cellist Tina Guo for the encore. Prague’s “The Great Show” reunited SABATON with Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rockers, Apocalyptica, who provided a fiery orchestral backing to several of Sabaton’s songs.
In support of SABATON’s most recent chart-topping album, The Great War,“The Great Tour” saw the band setting the barre sky-high for live rock’n’roll stage production. Both sets of discs effectively capture the visually electrifying in-concert experience that is a Sabaton show. Sabaton’s cinematic songs transport fans onto the battlefield, encountering the horrors of war as well as acts of heroism and bravery, based on historical fact and told as if through the eyes and minds of soldiers in the line of fire. For “The Great Tour,” and as seen on both of these DVD/Blu-Ray sets, SABATON’s live stage production was forged as a battlefield, with barbed-wire stretched across the front of the stage, stacks of sandbag barricades, mic stands fashioned after the period’s rifles and trench guns, a two-ton military tank complete with a battery of rocket launchers and flame jets that doubles as a drum riser, a keyboard built into the body of The Red Baron’s iconic blood-red tri-plane, and Brodén armed with a giant bazooka.

SABATON is a five-piece heavy metal band from Falun, Sweden. Since the band’s formation in 1999, SABATON has achieved quadruple Platinum sales and performed colossal concerts in over fifty countries. The band’s ninth studio album, “The Great War”, released on July 19, 2019, is a musically rich concept album capturing the sinister atmosphere of World War I – thus continuing the band’s trademark style of telling unforgettable stories from merciless battlefields all over the planet. Sabaton, signed to the world’s biggest heavy metal label, Nuclear Blast Records, played “The Great Tour” at major European festivals, and throughout North America, and Eastern Europe in support of The Great War. SABATON has put the “COVID downtime” to good use, writing, recording, and releasing a variety of stand-alone singles and music videos. The band played its first post-pandemic date on July 9, performing in front of 40,000 fans when they headlined the Exit Festival in Serbia. In January/February 2022, they will headline a 29-date tour of Sweden, followed by the launch of the massive “The Tour To End All Tours” on March 4 in Norway. As you might guess… There’s no end in sight for this unstoppable war machine anytime soon!

December 24th, 1914: Late On Christmas Eve, British Expeditionary Force heard German troops in the trenches opposite them singing Christmas carols and saw lanterns and small fir trees along their trenches. Messages began to be shouted between the trenches.
The following day, British and German soldiers met in no man’s land and exchanged gifts, took pictures and some even played football. It was a rare but magic moment of peace and harmony in the midst of one of the most atrocious events in the 20th century.
Today, Swedish metal heroes SABATON release a song about this outstanding event that is known today as “Christmas Truce”.
SABATON mastermind and bassplayer Pär Sundström on “Christmas Truce”: “Christmas Truce was our highest priority when we decided to write songs about World War One. Not only was it the most requested topic from our fans, but it was, for us, the most emotional story from the war. This song took us years to create since we wanted the music to reflect the mood honestly and it was a big challenge, but we feel we managed to write a song that captures the spirit of this day, over a century ago.”
“Christmas Truce” foreshadows the tenth masterpiece of SABATON, “The War To End All Wars”, that will be released on March 4th, 2022 via Nuclear Blast Records. Once again, SABATON will dive deep into the atrocities, miracles and happenings around WWI and take the listener to an emotional and exciting ride of 11 tracks.
The tracklist of the album reads as follows: 1. Sarajevo 2. Stormtroopers 3. Dreadnought 4. The Unkillable Soldier 5. Soldier Of Heaven 6. Hellfighters 7. Race to the Sea 8. Lady Of The Dark 9. The Valley Of Death 10. Christmas Truce 11. Versailles

Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed it in the ‘Steel Commanders’ video, and it will be manned by a SABATON crew that includes Brodén, who recorded a custom voiceover that’s full of Easter eggs for fans to discover. Once tankers earn their Strv K, they will be tasked with getting the exclusive ‘Spirit of War’ 3D style.
“We’ve really enjoyed working with the Sabaton guys and we’re happy to have them onboard this project,” states Max Chuvalov, Publishing Director, World of Tanks. “Our players love their music, and we complement each other as we are both fascinated with military history. Plus, we hope the new tune will inspire tankers to go that extra mile for the victory.” Even if players ultimately do not finish the marathon, they will earn plenty of goodies along the way and each stage they clear will allow them a set 10% discount on purchasing the Strv K, and the same is true for the 3D style. The Strv K also features its own Sabaton soundtrack and will allow you to earn bonds in Random Battles, so it’s a vehicle no tanker will want to miss out on, if not for owning a piece of World of Tanks history. The Spirit of War event will run from August 27 through September 6. For more information about the Spirit of War event, visit worldoftanks.com.
Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to lead singer of Sabaton Joakim Brodén about the upcoming tour opening for Judas Priest and their new upcoming studio album plus a whole lot more.
When asked about their upcoming Tour with Judas Priest and how it came about “I don’t know exactly how but we played with Priest the first time in 2010 in Berlin. We have run into each other at festivals and it’s all about timing. When we were kids one of our first favorite band was Judas Priest. Obviously we wanted to tour with them even before they knew we existed. It was supposed to be last year but finally we managed to get the timing right with album releases and when we were able to tour. I am really really looking forward to it. Doubly so since we have not been touring much lately and also to be touring with one of our favorite bands of all time, can’t be better huh?”
When asked about the upcoming new Sabaton studio album “It’s a Sabaton Album, we have been an evolutionary band not a revolutionary band. There is always surprises on a Sabaton album but we are never going to flip the coin and do something totally different on every song on a new album. There is going to be surprises on every album. I am actually listening and approving the master for the new album right now. A new album is always subjective and I think it’s pathetic when an artist says, this is our best album we ever made and they keep promoting the same tired line. I say it’s up to the listen to decide. But I know for a fact that everybody in the band, without even sitting in the same room together cause I shipped out the pre mixes to everyone and this is the only time in our history that everybody came back with F*** that sounds great! Everybody is super happy with the production. We were always happy before but maybe this maybe that but now wow we are really happy with the sound. I can’t reveal the exact topic but we are doing modern warfare 20th century.”
Will the songs that you released during the pandemic be on the new album “No they are totally separate from the new album. Those are not on the album we have a complete album, plus those tracks plus a bit more.”
