Formed in 1974, PRAYING MANTIS were an important part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, along with bands such as IRON MAIDEN(whose some ex-members used to be PRAYING MANTIS members as well), DIAMOND HEAD or SAXON. The band disbanded in the middle of the ’80s, and returned in the early ’90s with more hard rock and melodic Metal oriented releases. Their last two studio albums, “Sanctuary” from 2009 and the newest one, “Legacy” from 2015, which were originally released by Frontiers Records on CD, will be reissued as limited edition vinyl albums through No Remorse Records, and will be available on June 20, 2016. Both albums will be available as double LPs (with fourth side being etched), packed in deluxe gatefold sleeves, and bothe will be limited to 300 copies only.
The 2014 comeback album “The Year The Sun Died” from the legendary Seattle band SANCTUARY took the metal world by storm. The four original band members Warrel Dane (vocals, ex-Nevermore), Lenny Rutledge (guitars), Jim Sheppard (bass, ex-Nevermore) and Dave Budbill (drums) proved to be still on top of the game with an album that pleased every old fan without sounding old fashioned.
Now, SANCTUARY are proud to announce the next chance to witness old and new songs live in Europe! The tour starts with a very special show in London before they join the mighty Overkill on a couple of mainland shows while finishing the trip with two headlining gigs in Greece.
The live line-up will be completed by the guitar talent of Nick Cordle. Lenny Rutledge comments: “Brad Hull has recently parted ways with Sanctuary. We are excited to welcome Nick Cordle from Arch Enemy and Arsis to the Sanctuary team. Nick is an amazing musician and we believe he will bring a fresh energy to the line-up. You can see Nick Cordle with Sanctuary this March touring Europe on the Killfest tour.”
Nick Cordle: “It’ll be a great pleasure to join Sanctuary on tour in Europe! I’ve admired the band for a long time and THE YEAR THE SUN DIED is a breath of fresh air. It’s a welcome challenge to work up these songs and I’m excited to get moving!”
So don’t miss to see them live!

Seattle based metallers SANCTUARY have announced the tour dates in Europe, which will kick off on March 3, in London with a very special show. Read more details below:
A lot of fans were both surprised and delighted to hear that iconic Seattle metal band SANCTUARY were to reform and continue recording. And the surprise was even bigger once the album “The Year The Sun Died” came out this October, via Century Media Records. While not attempting to imitate 1989’s classic “Into The Mirror Black” neither following the path of Sanctuary’s immediate follow-up act Nevermore, “The Year The Sun Died” was heartily welcomed by fans and media alike honoring both band’s immortal legacy with its dark and diverse brand of classic metal. If you don’t believe the hype, check out the video for the song “Frozen:http://youtu.be/r_IrbeZfJII

“Offering plenty of flashes of musical dexterity while keeping things fairly snappy and concise, this is sure to appeal to more than just hungry Nevermore fans.” Metal Hammer (UK), 8 out of 10 points
“The reunited band sound stronger than before and more musical and emotive than ever. This is a truly great album that is passionate and beautiful in every facet, while still retaining a true metal fee.” Powerplay (UK), 8 out of 8 points

SANCTUARY‘s new album, The Year The Sun Died, is the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s first two studio albums that were released on Epic Records: Refuge Denied(1987) and Into the Mirror Black (1989). Singer Warrel Dane’s sky-high vocals combined with guitarist Lenny Rutledge’s more mature take on classic thrash riffs separated the group from the throes of metal acts struggling to get noticed at the time. With The Year The Sun Died, SANCTUARY continues that legacy that they started decades ago, delivering yet another fresh take on “classic-sounding” metal. For a preview of the album, be sure to check out the following previously released singles: “Frozen”, “Exitium (Anthem of the Living)”, “Arise and Purify”.
Reactivated Seattle metal band, SANCTUARY, has released the video to their track, “Frozen”, which was filmed in Germany and directed by Dirk Behlau. The track comes off their upcoming album, The Year The Sun Died, which is due out October 6th in Europe and October 14th in North America via Century Media Records. Check out “Frozen” below:
Guitarist Lenny Rutledge comments: “This video shoot was a blast. The location was an abandoned coal mine processing plant near Essen, Germany. You can see many bizarre birdcage size baskets hanging from the ceiling. There were thousands of them. We were told that they were some type of ‘laundry management devices’. They appear as something much more creepy and ominous in my opinion. Almost as if they were some sort of medieval torture devices. The entire building seemed to have a very haunting vibe.”

The Year The Sun Died has already been met with worldwide critical acclaim. Decibel Magazine (USA) declares, “You want powerful, progressive thrash metal? You’ll find it here…” and gave it 8 out of 10 stars. Aardshock Magazine (NL) put the band on the cover, proclaiming them the comeback of the year. The band also appeared on the cover of Germany’s Rock Hard with the number 1 album that month.
