British metallers DEF-CON-ONE have released a free to download track, a cover of the SEX PISTOLS classic “Anarchy in the UK”. There is also a video available for the track, watch below. All the footage was filmed at this year’s Download festival where DEF-CON-ONE headlined the Broadie takeover stage.
Commented Antton Lant, drummer of DEF-CON-ONE: “We were just messing about one day at rehearsals when me and Steve started jamming out the track, then Davey and Johnny joined in and it was sounding great. We jammed thru it a few times then we decided to put it in our live set as a last track. The crowds went abolutly crazy for it. Quite a few people suggested we should record it and release it.
After our performance at this year’s Download festival where we filled the tent, 7,000 crazy metal heads were screaming along to the track, we got hold of some footage from the gig so we’ve put the footage to the track”.
DEF-CON-ONE are currently working on album number three, which is due out early next year.
THE DAMNED: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead, filmmaker Wes Orshoski’s long-awaited documentary of British punk pioneers The Damned will make its European premiere June 3 in London at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. Check out the film trailer below:
Damned founders Rat Scabies and Brian James will join Orshoski for post-film Q&As at both of the Prince Charles Cinema screenings (6 p.m. & 9 p.m.). The European/U.K. premiere at the Prince Charles launches two weeks of exclusive screenings across the U.K.
The June 4th screening at the Arthouse in London’s Crouch End will feature a Q&A with Rat Scabies, while former Damned bassists Paul Gray and Bryn Merrick will appear in the post-film chat during the June 8th event at Chapter Arts in Cardiff. Brian James and current Damned keyboardist Monty Oxymoron will appear in Q&As following the Brighton screenings on June 10th at Duke’s at Komedia.

Shot around the world over the past four years, THE DAMNED: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead made its world premiere in March at the South By Southwest Film and Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
The authorized film features appearances by Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Mick Jones (The Clash), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead), Duff McKagan (Guns ‘N’ Roses), Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), actor/comedian Fred Armisen, and more.
The third prong in the holy trinity of English punk—alongside the Sex Pistols and The Clash—The Damned beat both in the race to be the first to put punk on wax: The Damned were the first U.K. punk band to release a single (1976’s essential “New Rose”) and album (1977’s iconic Damned Damned Damned) and they were the first to bring British punk to America, including a stop at New York’s hallowed CBGBs.
Weathering near fatal line-changes, The Damned went on to record hits in the new wave era (“Love Song” & “Smash It Up”) and registered a massive impact on the 1980s goth scene. The Damned is one of the only surviving band’s from punk’s first wave.
THE DAMNED: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead charts the band’s unique history and bitter infighting; it captures the band in the midst of a 35th anniversary tour in 2011 which estranged former members Rat Scabies and Brian James answered with their own anniversary tour. Meanwhile other former members reunite in the unlikeliest of places—a Welsh cancer ward; elsewhere, members of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Melvins, T.S.O.L., Buzzcocks, Adverts and the Offspring detail the Damned’s role in setting fire to the dinosaur rock of the 1970s while sparking the punk movement in America.
THE DAMNED: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead is longtime journalist/ photographer Wes Orshoski’s follow-up to 2011’s Lemmy, the award-winning portrait of Motörhead legend Kilmister (which Orshoski co-directed/produced).

Wes Orshoski made his film debut with 2010’s “Lemmy,” the documentary celebrating the life of Motorhead singer Lemmy Kilmister. In addition to film work, Orshoski has for more than 20 years worked as a music journalist and photographer. His work has been published in Mojo, Rolling Stone, Billboard, The Source, and many others.
BBC4 will broadcast a special one-hour documentary on the SEX PISTOLS historic concert in Huddersfield Christmas Day 1977 on December 26th at 10pm. The documentary looks at how the group branded ‘public enemy number’ one by the media played a matinee concert for the kids of striking firemen and put on a Christmas party with free presents and cakes; then later that evening played a show for the firemen and adults.
Director Julien Temple marries together previously unseen footage of the legendary shows along with archive footage of the striking firemen and 1977 television. John Rotten, Steve Jones and Paul Cook were all interviewed for the documentary. This is the Pistols as you have never known or seen them before.
The 35th-anniversary “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols” super-deluxe box set will be made available in the U.K. on September 24.
A sneak peek video of the 100-page 12-inch-by-12-inch hardcover book that’s included in the release can be seen below. The book, a diary of 1977, is packed with exclusive images, recording details, memorabilia and rare photos chronicling every significant band event that year with quotes from key figures.
As one of the most iconic and influential albums in music history, “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols” still sounds as powerful and unique as ever, 35 years since the original release. As such an important musical and cultural force the album changed the landscape for records and the music industry. The SEX PISTOLS defined a generation and captured a feeling within the nation that simply no one else could of. The band created a truly distinctive sound and “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols” impact and influence still strongly resonates with musicians, artists and people to this day. To celebrate its 35th anniversary, Universal Music U.K. has assembled a super-deluxe box-set release that really does this legendary album justice.
While many fans will undoubtedly be of the opinion that there can be very little left in the SEX PISTOLS vaults that hasn’t already been seen and heard, followers of the band will be thrilled by the treasure trove of music, footage, interviews, pictures and artifacts confirmed to be included.
The original master tapes from the “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols” recording sessions in 1977 were thought to be lost for many years. Now thankfully rediscovered during the recent move from Virgin Records to Universal Music catalogue in January 2012, the tapes have been remastered, for the very first time, by Tim Young under direction from original producer Chris Thomas. Some real treats have also been found along the way. The find that will perhaps excite fans the most is the lost 1977 demo studio recording of “Belsen Was A Gas”, the only original SEX PISTOLS composition of the era thought not to be recorded.
Other treats include the inclusion of six demos first included on the infamous “Spunk” bootleg album, released for the very first time in their original, untouched form following the very recent discovery of their original master tapes. These, combined with a selection of unreleased Chris Thomas demos and outtakes from the recording of the album — including tracks with Sid Vicious on bass — plus a wealth of live audio and visual material all from 1977 make up a box set that will truly satisfy fans of the band.
Video footage of MANRAZE — the rock outfit featuring Phil Collen of DEF LEPPARD, Simon Laffy from GIRL and Paul Cook of the SEX PISTOLS — performing a cover version of the JIMI HENDRIX classic “Fire” can be seen below. Collen and his bandmates pay homage to Hendrix while still managing to infuse the song with the highly amped spirit that is MANRAZE. “Fire” has been a staple of MANRAZE‘s live shows since the group’s first London gigs began in 2005.
Hendrix‘s three-piece band provided the signature blueprint for MANRAZE as Collen and his fellow musicians continued to gain recognition for their cleverly written and arranged infectious reggae/rock rhythms.
MANRAZE‘s sophomore album, “punkfunkrootsrock”, was unleashed upon the masses on August 2 through Rocket Science Ventures in the U.S. and Canada. The album was also released July 27 in Japan on Nippon/Columbia and in the Europe via Edel Music.
It all started in 2004 when Phil Collen, after 20-plus years as lead guitarist for DEF LEPPARD, decided to express himself via another creative outlet — something a bit closer to his musical home. After a chance meeting on the street with Paul Cook, MANRAZE finally released their debut album, “Surreal”, through Universal Records in the summer of 2008 to rave reviews. The group’s debut album was chocked full of rebellious in-your-face mantras (“Turn it Up”, “This Is”, “Running Me Up”) ranging from hardcore punk to dub.
