A teaser for “You’re A Lie”, the new video from the iconic, Grammy-winning rock guitarist and songwriterSlash, can be seen below. The track is the first single from Slash‘s second solo album, “Apocalyptic Love”, which will be released on May 22 via his own label Dik Hayd International distributed through EMI. The CD will follow his 2010 debut album, “Slash”, and his November 2011 first-ever live solo album, the two-CD/DVD set “Made In Stoke 24/7/11”.
“You’re A Lie” can be streamed in its entirery at RollingStone.com.
“‘You’re A Lie’ is the second song I brought to the band in 2011 during the last tour,” explains Slash. “We worked on it at soundcheck somewhere, I can’t remember where. It’s gone through some minor changes along the way, mainly the chorus. But for the most part, it’s remained true to its original arrangement. I can’t wait to play this live.” Source: Blabbermouth.net
According to The Pulse Of Radio, a British man has been banned from being alone with his eight-year-old daughter for up to a year after he accidentally downloaded images of child pornography while attempting to download an album from former GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Slash. Nigel Robinson admitted that he was trying to obtain music by Slash from an illegal file-sharing site, but that when he opened the files, he found not songs but images of young girls.
Robinson said he informed police about the photos at the urging of his wife, telling the Daily Mail, “When I saw these images I wanted to do something about it. I didn’t want anyone else’s children to be exploited in this way.” He added, “I can categorically state 1,000 percent there will be nothing inappropriate on my computer other than the files I told the police about.”
The local social services council recommended that Robinson not be allowed to be alone with his daughter or any other children during the length of the police investigation.
But the investigation could take up to a year before Robinson‘s laptop is returned. He said, “I can understand there needs to be caution. It is a very serious matter, but to be told it may be a year before the conclusion is just madness. I cannot take my daughter to the park, swimming or anything . . . I wish I had just binned the laptop and then none of this would have happened.” Source: Blabbermouth.net
On Saturday, February 11th, legendary pop singer WHITNEY HOUSTON’s publicist confirmed to the Associated Press that she has passed away. According to an update from CNN, Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55pm PST at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. She was 48 years old.
There were “no obvious signs of criminal intent,” said Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen. Medics removed her body from the hotel room early Sunday morning and an autopsy has been scheduled. But the county coroner’s office could not say when.
Her string of Billboard No. 1 hits included ‘Saving All My Love for You’, ‘How Will I Know’, ‘The Greatest Love of All’, ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’ and ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)’.
In 1992 she released the soundtrack to her movie The Bodyguard, one of the top ten biggest-selling albums of all time.
More artists from the hard rock world have been hit hard by the news as her music crossed genres. Some new tributes can be read below:
SLASH: “Shattering news about Whitney. RIP.”
ALICE COOPER: “What a loss. Every single girl – every diva – was trying to be like Whitney. She was the Barbra Streisand of her music. She had the purest voice of anybody.”
MORBID ANGEL: “Deeply saddened with the news of the death of Whitney Houston….RIP..!!”
WITHIN TEMPTATION: “Sorry to hear, Whitney Houston (48) passed away. Thinking of her it brings back a lot of childhood memories.”
Anette Olzon (NIGHTWISH): “Whitney Houston dead-48 years young. It’s so tragic and for me, who has been singing Whitney’s songs in talent shows when I was a teenager and have been inspired by her way of singing, I just think its so tragic. Whitney was one of the biggest voices and the world lost someone special this weekend. So sad for her family. Rest in peace, Whitney…”
KIP WINGER: “Sad to lose such a one of a kind talent, RIP Whitney Houston.”
TRAIL OF TEARS: “RIP Whitney Houston! Another great voice has been silenced.”
GLENN HUGHES: “RIP Whitney”
ROCK STAR SUPER STAR PROJECT: “RIP, Whitney Houston, a real Superstar.”

Slash — the iconic, Grammy-winning rock guitarist and songwriter — will begin mixing his second solo album on Monday, February 13. He writes on Facebook, “The rough mixes sound great. It’s a really solid record. [I] can’t wait to get it out there!”
The as-yet-untitled disc is due out May 22 on Slash‘s own label Dik Hayd International distributed through EMI.
In the U.K., the album will be released on May 21 in exclusive Classic Rock Fan Pack form — providing a unique collectable package containing the studio album with bonus tracks alongside a specially created magazine with unseen behind-the-scenes content put together by Classic Rock. The Fan Pack format will also come with free gifts, including a pin badge and artwork poster and will be available to buy via more than 2000 retail outlets on newsstands nationally as well as the traditional high street and online music retailers. Roadrunner Records will simultaneously release the record digitally. The standard physical release of the Slash album will follow through Roadrunner Records on June 18.
For the new album, Slash — along with and his bandmates Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass) — teamed with producer Eric Valentine, who also produced the “Slash” disc. All the songs were written together by Slash and Kennedy, and cameras have been rolling throughout the entire making of the album. Check out exclusive behind-the-scenes footage airing weekly beginning today.

02. Running With The Devil

VAN HALEN will kick off its North American tour on February 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.
VAN HALEN‘s new album, “A Different Kind Of Truth”, is likely to sell between 180,000 and 200,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on February 7 via Interscope.
The first review of “A Different Kind Of Truth” was posted online last week at Antiquiet — and it was overwhelmingly positive. Critic Johnny Firecloud said that the band’s first album with original singer David Lee Roth in 28 years is a “true return” and “screaming triumph,” adding, “That old familiar feeling has returned, the unique flare of excitement that comes from a muscle car rhythm section led by a six-string wizard and a singing sexual megalodon with an ego that made Kanye look like a kid flaunting his new Spider-Man underoos — and the pipes to back up the strut.”
The review acknowledged that much of the album is made up of material pulled from the band’s archives, writing, “Thankfully, these songs do not sound like old men putting on the smelly old spandex and combing over the strays. Fresh is the operative word here, a supremely confident swing for the fences in an understandable progression from the obsessively romanticized pre-Hagar era.”
First single and album opener “Tattoo” is described as the “low point for an otherwise fantastic album,” which may offer hope to fans who have voiced displeasure with that track. Other songs cited as standout tracks include “She’s The Woman”, “You And Your Blues”, “China Town” and “Stay Frosty”.
The review concluded, “‘A Different Kind Of Truth’ will be remembered as evidence that a band can endure every cliche in the book and return, with the right focus, obsessed dedication and mojo, to a sweet spot of rejuvenation — one that holds the hand of nostalgia but doesn’t go for the full embrace, leaning instead, wisely, toward evolution.”
Legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N’ ROSES) is filming a video this weekend for a remixed version of the song “Gotten”. The track, which features lead vocals by Adam Levine of MAROON 5, originally appeared on Slash‘s last self-titled album, which was released in North America in April 2010 via EMI Label Services.
“Gotten” was remixed in Astound Sound and will be released soon in support of the Los Angeles Youth Network (LAYN) charity.
LAYN‘s mission is to end homelessness, one kid at a time, by providing shelter, food and counseling for the abused, neglected and abandoned.
“Slash” featured an all-star roster of guest musicians, including Levine, Ian Astbury (THE CULT), Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN), Rocco DeLuca, Fergie (BLACK EYED PEAS), Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS), Myles Kennedy (ALTER BRIDGE), Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmister (MOTÖRHEAD), Duff McKagan (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N’ ROSES), M. Shadows (AVENGED SEVENFOLD), Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Andrew Stockdale (WOLFMOTHER).
In a 2010 interview with iHeartRadio (see video below), Slash stated about the experience of working with Levine on “Gotten”, “Adam Levine really surprised me just because he’s so skilled as a vocalist. He came in and sang the song, and it was, basically, a one-take, perfect vocal. We stopped in between a couple of times, but we didn’t have to go fix anything, we didn’t have to do any tuning or any of that kind of stuff, and it was really just amazing to watch somebody go and pull that off, for that kind of a vocal.”
Slash and his backing band — which includes Myles Kennedy — are putting the finishing touches on the legendary axeman’s second solo album.
Early song titles for Slash‘s sophomore effort include “Bad Rain”, “Halo”, “Standing In The Sun” and “Far And Away”. The record is expected to arrive this spring.
