Guitarist Anders Björler, who quit THE HAUNTED earlier this month, is currently preparing his first solo album, and offers fans the following update:
“I am doing some test mixes right now. This is NOT a ‘metal’ project. Those of you who are familiar with my soundtrack / movie stuff for The Haunted and AT THE GATES documentaries will know somewhat to expect…
It’s inspired by: Italian film music from the ’60 and ’70s, post rock, ambient, progressive, jazz, and Swedish folk music.”
Upon leaving The Haunted, Anders issued the following statement: “I feel that I have come to the end of the line regarding The Haunted. This is not a sudden or hasty decision. I have been contemplating it for the last couple of years. Peter (Dolving)’s departure earlier this year made me more certain than ever that I had reached my personal goal with The Haunted, and that the time was right to call it quits. I have enjoyed every bit of the ride. It’s been an overwhelming journey. I would like to thank the other band members especially, our crew through the years, and our fans worldwide for the experience and opportunity. Thank you so much! The memories will be with me forever. I will of course continue writing music, but where that leads me?, simply too early to say.”
Swedish versatile metaller PETER DOLVING (Rosvo, Science, O, Zen Monkey, ex The-Haunted) has issued the following update on his personal facebook page:
Thieves And Liars is my first real solo album. I’ve recorded everything at my home in the countryside outside Gothenburg during a six month period last summer/autumn. Per Möller Jensen recorded amazing drums this spring and now it’s mixed by my good friend Fredrik Reinedahl (Solstafir, Burst, Abandon, Passengers etc.). All left now is the mastering by Tue Madsen.
This record departs from anything I have ever done. Everyone I have played it to tells us it sounds like, well, me.
There is nothing even remotely related to metal or hardcore about this record. It’s rock. Progressive, ecclectic, experimental modern rock. Genre-defying in its truest. Peter Gabriel, My Bloody Valentine, Neu, The Cure, PJ Harvey… well, I guess that kind of gives a hint, but really won’t mean anything until you actually hear it.
The songtitles are:
Meinhof
Song Yor You
Hands On
One Sweet Moment
Ordinary Folk
Sunday Mornings
Cocksucker Blues
My Will To Die
No Solicitors
So sick
All This Beauty
I have not yet decided on how to distribute it so initially I won’t make it availbe through Bandcamp. But I’ll be spending several days just tracking up and contacting everyone who’s supported the creation of this album over this last year and mail you all a download-link where you will be able to get the album and artwork as mp3’s, WAV’s or FLAC.
I encourage you to play it to your friends and let’s hope good music is stronger than bullshit business attitudes.
Aniruddh “Andrew” Bansal of Metal Assault conducted a short interview with Jamey Jasta of HATEBREED and KINGDOM OF SORROW at the third annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which was held on Wednesday, April 20 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, California.
On his upcoming solo album, “Jasta”:
Jamey: “It’s just more of the thrash and rock element in it. I think there’s a lot more clean singing than I’m used to doing. It’s a lot of stuff that I recorded for other artists, but it ended up sounding cool so I just left it in there. My engineer was really liking the stuff that I was doing. I still have a lot of guest parts on there — Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD, Zakk Wylde, Phil Labonte [of ALL THAT REMAINS], Tim from AS I LAY DYING, Mark Morton from LAMB OF GOD — so it’s just like a fun project before we do the next HATEBREED album.”
“I did all of it by myself, except for the guest parts. I did it all throughout 2008, 2009 and 2010 so it was fun to go back, listen to those old tracks and go, ‘These are still good, let’s release them!’ I’m just very lucky that I’m in a position to be able to do this and I’m grateful that the eOne label is giving it such a great push.”
On whether the release of his solo album will impact songwriting for the next HATEBREED CD:
Jamey: “No, not at all. Actually that’s why I wanted to get it out now because the next HATEBREED album is going to be short, to the point and brutal, and there will be no melody. This is my one chance to kind of get it out of the system.”
On touring plans for the solo material:
Jamey: “I don’t see myself doing a lot of touring for this at all. I’d like to, but I really want to focus on getting HATEBREED out for the rest of the year. We’ll be going to South America, Australia, then we’ll do Europe and the States again so it’s going to be a lot of touring. Plus the only time to see KINGDOM OF SORROW is this summer on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. That is the only time you’ll see me and Kirk [Windstein, KINGDOM OF SORROW guitarist] together because DOWN is going to be busy, CROWBAR will be busy, and HATEBREED too. So this is it.”
On shuffling multiple projects:
Jamey: “I’m just busy and it’s a good problem to have. There are no complaints and I just want to keep doing music and having a good time.”
On interacting with fans on Twitter:
Jamey: “You know, it’s cool because I just started talking to some people there and they got me verified. I find that as cool because there are not a lot of metal guys on there. I mean, some bands are on there. I saw SLAYER‘s on there, Dave Mustaine‘s on there. But they aren’t really interacting with the fans. So I just try to do something different and I do a lot of Q&As [question-and-answer sessions], and I have a total of 25,000 followers now, so it’s cool.”
Jasta will release his solo album, simply titled “Jasta”, on July 26 via eOne Music. The CD will be made available in Europe one day earlier through Century Media Records.
A three-minute video clip in which Jasta explains his decision to release the CD can be viewed below.
NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has decided to push back the tentative release date of her debut solo album to after the band has completed touring in support of its new studio album, “Imaginarium”.
“I had planned to release my solo album now when we have had a break from NIGHTWISH,” Olzon writes on her official blog. “The solo was meant to be a fun thing and a thing for me to start doing my own songs since that is something I feel I want to learn more about. When I got pregnant with Nemo [Anette‘s second son and first with current boyfriend, bassist Johan Husgafvel of the Swedish metal band PAIN], I felt that I didn’t want to stress during the pregnancy since my pregnancy with Seth [Anette‘s older son] was hard and I had to take it very easy. So to not ‘jump in’ and promise things I couldn’t keep, I put the solo down.
“When Nemo came, and I felt that he was healthy and I also felt good, I started to feel that I could put the album out and still had time to do that. We started to discuss with different labels, but the progress took so much time and things happened along the way — the biggest thing being a producer who suddenly couldn’t do it due to personal problems — and all of a sudden it was April and my time is running out. So I pulled the break yesterday and just said ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to the record label ’cause it can’t be done at this time.
“My autumn is quite full with ‘Imaginarium’, so the solo [album] will have to wait to be released. I will work with the production of the songs when I have the time and if I get a song ready, I will put it out for you all to listen, but there won’t be an album out. Then, after ‘Imaginarium’ and the tour — if I still feel like releasing it — I will do that then.”
Olzon worked on material for her solo CD in 2009 with Swedish producers Stefan Örn and Johan Glössner. The album was slated to be co-produced by Swedish producer/songwriter Anders Bagge, who has previously worked with MADONNA, CELINE DION, JANET JACKSON and JESSICA SIMPSON, among others. He was also one of judges on the Swedish TV talent competition “Idol” and a producer of the TV series “Made in Sweden”.
Olzon in 2009 hired a personal manager — the Swedish management company Hagenburg Management, which also represents EUROPE and THE CARDIGANS.
